I'm curious to see where they had Goldman ranked.  No one is saying Dorsett is a bad prospect.  He's got through-the-roof potential, incredible athletic ability, and great character.  With Dorsett, we get a talented football player.  With a guy like Goldman, we could have gotten a talented football player that also fills a need.

Not only that, but we compromise the development of Dorsett, Moncrief, and Carter because we have to split their reps.  Great prospect, really talented player, but not the best choice for our roster, in my opinion

actually NE was going to trade out of the 1st with Houston until the Colts took Dorsett. So it's not like they were eyeing Brown.

That's not what I've read. I heard they backed out of trading once they found out once the Colts took Dorsett.

LOL. Dumb. Just like Werner was such a better prospect than Rhodes.

We can look back at that now and see it clear as day. I too really liked Rhodes more than Werner. However, at that time many teams did see Werner as the better prospect in Grigson's defense.

New England wanted to trade out because they thought Indy would take Brown.  So yes, they were watching Brown.  When Indy didn't take him, New England stayed at 32 to take him.

T.Y. and Antonio Brown man crushes caused them to do that, LOL :)

Ironically, T.Y and Antonio Brown were drafted in rounds 3 and 6. Grigson drafted wideouts in T.Y. and Moncrief in round 3 for crying out loud, and was part of scouting team that drafted DJax in round 2. He should know better that he can get good talent in rounds 2 and 3 if he did have a need for wideout.

Plus, Travis Frederick was rated round 2-3 and was drafted in round 1 by Cowboys, and so far, so good. Grigson is embracing the BPA, regardless of need, a bit too much. It works for a team that does not suffer lop sided losses like the Colts against elite teams (Steelers, Cowboys, Patriots etc.) and the teams that stay in close games are the more balanced teams.

Once our offense is derailed, everything falls apart against balanced teams on D, it seems like to me. Playoff Ds will limit offensive production, no two ways about it, and to combat it, you need your own D to keep you in games.

I have heard the same as mentioned above. The Pats were going to trade back with Houston so Houston could get Dorsett. After the Colts took Dorsett the Texans backed out. Either way it doesn't matter the deal fell apart and the draft fell the way it did. I wish we would of taken Brown too, but it is what it is.

The post said, Grigson had him rated lower than Bellichick, and said I wonder who was right?

Insinuating since it was Bellichick he was right..

I'd bet on BB's opinion on a DL over Grigson, who has drafted one good defender in his whole time here.

A lot of people think with the Dorsett pick means Colts and Hilton will part ways next season with Luck getting a monster contract. I'm curious can't we really afford both?

I think a lot of people are jumping to conclusions with this pick. I believe we have the cap to afford Hilton, but we may have to take a loss somewhere else.

And now the website goes insane!      :peek:

I was wondering about this since yesterday, really appreciate this thread NewColts! Makes me feel a bit better how far away they were.

Grigson had him as a 2nd and Belichick had him as a 1st.

I wonder who was right.

Yeah me too, Too bad we have to wait for at least 2-3 years to get a fair sample size...

Seriously, stop being so skeptical and accept who they viewed where, if you don't agree that's fine, just stop talking so much crap about Grigson.. They get paid to do this, and if you think they don't know Defense is a need you're wrong. Let them do their job without so much complaining.

Browns got a smaller lower half of the body and was inconsistent against the run, Several times penetrating a gap leaving it open for a rb to run through if Brown did not make the tackle

I don't think he's the run-stopping, lane-clogging rock of an interior DL that others do.

Just wanted to chime in regarding this line of thinking....

All GMs are paid to do their job. Just because they are paid, it does not mean that they necessarily do a good job. GMs get fired quite often.

With that said, I do like Dorsett, but it does not address our biggest needs. I do look forward to watching him play though.

Me neither.  I don't think he's an upgrade over Jones or Langford in our system, at all.  I would be curious as to where Landon Collins, Randall and Kendricks were on Grigs' board, though.

I find it pretty hilarious that the same people knocking him supposedly being high on Randall are the most vocal about Dorsett.  It's obvious they had a couple guys they were passionate about and everyone else would be a waste of time.

I wish I wasn't out of likes. Amazing how people think that just because someone gets paid to do this, they are above reproach. Matt Millen was also paid to do this.

On it's face, Werner over Rhodes seems like a reach for need rather than a BPA pick. Ironic.

I really think that Grigs has reached for need in the past and decided to stick to his guns no matter what.

The only two picks I think that might apply to are Fleener and Werner. Everyone else, I can make a spirited defense for BPA.
