Show Coby Fleener some Love

James Harden

We've got two versatile TE's...why the heck does it matter who is better than the other? Both guys are giving us an advantage when they play. End of story. No debate to be had.

It seems to me that a few people are thinking one of them has to go when it's time for contract renewal. They want their chosen guy to stay. I don't know why we'd have to cut either of them personally.

I think because some people like one over the other and think because they feel the one they like is better that makes the other expendable.

Fleener has an exceptional game but it always the same. Not so much as what he does, its any and every mistake he makes or he not as good as Allen. Sorry 21 but it does get tiresome reading.

Well, I did say he's had a really good few weeks.  But that drop was inexcusable.  But yes, he did have a very good game

Fleener has really been pretty dang solid this year for sure. Yes we expected him to be better last year than he was but he has been ballin' no doubt.

I am still bummed about the wide open drop but man that happens to almost everyone once in awhile.

When it happens in a PLAYOFF GAME the love will end...    really fast.

he has a MAJOR drop issue.         and it is simply fact.  Luck keeps hitting him and .......

It has to get better...

He had the drop, but got over that quickly with a catch for a first down followed by running over two guys for a 73 yard touchdown pass. Coby is fine.

Allen is the better blocker.. But he's not much of a receiving threat.

That's just not true!  If you want to knock Allen for not being able to stay on the field, that's one thing.  my knock on Fleener are the lapses in concentration - he has now dropped two TD passes this season.

The case with Coby Fleener is "have I arrived, have I not" and him figuring that out 100%. I think he goes through ups and downs figuring it out.

If you remember, TY had the same issue figuring that out "am I a #1 wideout or am I not" and once he figured out he has to play a high level consistently to be considered a #1 wideout, he now is playing like he can ALL the time.

Did that cost the Colts the game? No it didn't. It was bad, but the team did score  a TD on that drive. Move along.

Oh no doubt, it didn't cost them the game, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, Fleener has bad hands.

He's a great guy, but he's not an elite TE, and he doesn't deserve to be paid or mentioned like one. He's just run of the mill, average, or slightly better than average.

If he made those catches instead of drops all the time, it would be a different story.

I'm not sure what the infatuation with him here is though, it is a bit unnerving.

Well, even with those drops among TEs, he 10th in the league in receptions, 3rd in yards, Tied for third in TDs, 4th in deep pass attempts (2nd if you add in at least 20 pass attempts), 1st in yards per reception (minimum 10 catches) and 16th in catch rate (minimum 20 catches).  I'm guessing the infatuation has more to do with those numbers than focusing solely on the occasional drop.

He's very inconsistent. I see flashes, but it's one step forward two steps back a lot of the time.

Fleener has great hands. It's concentration lapses that get him at times.

you are out of your mind... Allen does SO MUCH of the dirty work that Coby is not even ASKED to do because he can NOT do it.

I guarantee you if the staff had to choose it would be Allen without question. Coby is a luxury, Allen is a necessity to winning football.

Allen is a necessity for winning? I didn't realize the colts went 0-16 last year.

In all fairness it was a bit under thrown... Not saying he shouldnt have caught it but lets be fair here...

I agree. Just to be fair. Luck could have put alittle bit more off the top. Fleener have that height to go up and grab it.

I like Fleener, but there is no excuse for dropping that ball......none.

    • The Colts handed Taylor a boat load of money which is unheard for a running back in today’s NFL.  You don’t do that and take him off the field in crucial situations for Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson.  Shane has done just that in two of the last three games he’s coached.  Not playing maybe your best offensive weapon for a whole fourth quarter is criminal.  Shane is trying to be too cute and over thinking things trying to fool other teams and it’s not working in the slightest.  Play your best players at the most critical points of games.  That’s why you paid them.
    • People come up with the strangest over reactions ever when the Colts lose.
    • I agree 100 Ballard time is up , him and Bradley. You can preach accountability and retain Bradley another year….Ballard loves to say guys just need to hit the layup… he should take his own advice we all knew we needed help in the secondary this year no moves, we all knew we needed help last year at corner , oline year before. I talking about obvious weaknesses media calls him out on it year after year and he plays it off like he smarter than everyone then admit mistakes at the end of year and does the same thing. Bradley doesn’t make any adjustment like he runs what he runs and that it
    • To be honest this is malpractice by Ballard ….. like I know they think us fans are stupid but some of us played sports , coached sports , watched sports etc… we know what we are seeing like everyone knew we needed depth in the second. But Ballard doesn’t bring vets in and makes guys compete for a job he hands them to players he thinks are nice people a deserve a shot. Ala Pinter, NFL is a league where you get what you earn ,you eat what you kill , not what you deserve. Ballard need to take a hard look at him self at look at how other teams that win are built. We need speed at the corner position and a scheme shift. Like no HC under Ballard has been able to pick they DC he normally has one before they get hired and they retain Ballard guy
