Hasselbeck reconsidering Retirement.....

As you know, when Hasselbeck signed a two-year contract with the Colts a year ago,  he said he was going to retire after the 2014 season.

Well...   that season is fast approaching and it appears Matt is having 2nd thoughts on ending his long career....

Here's a story I found on ESPN.com.....

As long as he wants to stay, and he's got an affordable price, I'm all for bringing him back....

Well that is not good.

What's not good that he might come back? Not sure how I feel about it either can he stay play if he had too? He is a great mentor and all that but he has to be able to play to be the back up QB that is kind of important.

Probably thought he meant he's considering retiring before this season, that was what I assumed.

I want to see more of Chandler Harnish actually, but i like Matt.

Even though we have seen very little of Harnish, exclusively in the preseason really, I think he looks better than Painter ever did.... and Painter sat behind #18 for how many years?

problem with keeping hasslebeck another year is we would have to release harnish. after three years on the ps you arent eligible

I don't mean to be a jerk,  but is that really a problem?

Who knows,  perhaps after this year, Grigson will think Harnisch is ready to be the back-up?

I doubt it,  but strange things can and do happen........

I would think they'd prefer to keep Hasselbeck,  but you never know......

Do you really think Harnish is worth keeping?  He's spent a lot of time on practice squad and he's never once been signed by another team.

I don't think he has a future a back up here.

My 5 year old throwing a football looks better than Painter.

Preach my brother Preach! I'd sign your son to a 1 year deal right now if it guaranteed that Painter would never wear a blue or white jersey ever again & you can quote me on that too.

Painter sends a chill down my spine worse than the scariest horror movie I have ever seen. It's even worse than I first see my reflection every morning in my bathroom mirror. It ain't pretty man...

I like Matt he is a good insurance policy!

Exactly right gentlemen!   I've always liked Hasselbeck...smart, funny, knows his role, a great mentor, makes me wish I'd look as good as Matthew does bald, & I know I always say this, but it's true: He was robbed of a SB ring in 2005 at Ford Field in Detroit. I wanna see Matthew retire as a NFL World Champion QB.

The Colts FO should not re-sign him to a deal like the one he signed last year. It was rich, but the insight and depth he provided was valuable.

After next year, he'll be older and he won't be as valuable as a mentor. Wouldn't mind seeing the Colts draft someone in the later rounds.

Either way, happy to have him aboard this season.

    • Absolutely!! This makes the season so much more fun. 😊   I wanna win! But more importantly, it's all about beating my score last year 🤣
    • I think HOU certainly got better. On defense, they added an All-Pro pass rusher in Hunter and also added Autry. They might have best ER duo in the NFL (though I say that without looking too in depth into it).   On offense, even if Diggs isn't still a great WR, you can do a lot worse at WR3. Nico had a legit breakout and Tank Dell was on pace for 1k+ yard/10+ TDs as a rookie. Even Noah Brown was productive. They have talent and depth there.   They also have a proven TE in Schultz, which I think gives their TE room the edge. Stover is also a prospect I liked. At this point, the Colts TE room doesn't have that TE1.   Colts have the better OL, but HOU is still a top 15 unit, possibly top 10 when healthy (which is the key). They dealt with injuries early last season, but once they got healthy, they were much better.   And at QB, Stroud is the more proven QB at this point.   Have to give them edge on offense overall. On defense, I would have to give them edge as well, due to their secondary. Right now, I think that's a big ? for the Colts.    I really don't see any major weakness, at least on paper. But they do have to face a gauntlet of a schedule, which probably caps their win total. Still, they should be the favorite in the AFCS.   But it's not just HOU, I think TEN is going to be much improved as well. And JAC has won 4/5 games against IND. Just overall, the AFCS should be really competitive, which makes picking up more wins tricky (vs. the past where at least one of those teams was typically bad).
