Landry misses practice...concussion

I have never really liked those congratulatory head smacks actually, After a olayer gets a hard earned td getting beat up and likely dinged on the head a time or two at least his teams all come over and celebrate with him by smackin him in the head and in even some cases once in a blue blu shovin there head hard in excitement.......If they dont get concussed from the actually hit on the play I certainly wonder if they do during the celebration....As to Landry....Its early.

Lynch came in for Landry during the game.  I would imagine he will be the one to play if Landry can't go.

Just off the cuff, the Colts could just play with 4 LBers, 3 Cbs and 1 safety and have the 3rd CB play back like a safety if there is no 3rd WR.  This would give the Colts some flexibility for both the pass and run game.  That's interesting I will have to think more about that.

that must have been a mighty knee to the helmet and congratulatory head smacks

Can helmets withstand NOTHING?

Yeah, in watching the replay of the game and knowing what he suffered, watching Welden give him those headslaps as he lay on the ground was a bit disconcerting!

Didn't they do that once with Butler and that was the play where the KC guy was running open down the sideline and Smith missed him?

Maybe Vaughn could play Safety :D

I'm not sure if you're just joking, but I do think Vaughn would make a better safety than corner. His main problem in man coverage is knowing when the ball is coming. If he's playing safety, he'd be facing the QB more often and would be better able to find the ball. He's a good tackler, he's got range and speed... It's not the craziest idea in the world, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him rotate back there from time to time if Landry can't go.

They did it a couple times against Jacksonville and the regular season game against the Chiefs, if I remember correctly. Landry wasn't on the field, Bethea was the only safety.

Sort of joking at first but thinking about it he might be better if he moved to safety.  As long as he sees the ball he can be decent.

Laron tweeted either late Saturday or Sunday that he would be fine to play this week and felt like he could come back into the game on Saturday (I'm paraphrasing, obviously, but that was the gist). Take that for what it is worth.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't play--guess he will be cleared to practice and then play...maybe get one practice day in this week.

Actually, I think it was Kelvin Sheppard who gave Landry the headslaps as he lay on the field.

Don't look into the head slaps too much. I just watched the game on Replay and it was right after he went down. Sheppard probably didn't know the extent of it....Landry went back in and played. I hope he is ok to play, because while he hasn't played that well, he did have some big hits in run support, including the one where he got kneed in the head.

This is a excerpt from the NFL's policy concerning concussion protocols .

"The thing that I think is important here is you don't manage concussions by a calendar," Dr. Herring said. "Some guys may come back in a week. Some guys may come back in six weeks. These steps don't have an expiration date on them. The player's history of injury and other issues come into play."

Once a team doctor signs off on a player's return, the player is evaluated in person by an unaffiliated concussion expert physician approved by both the NFL and NFL Players Association. This unaffiliated expert also must sign off on the player's health before he is allowed to return to play.

"The thinking is that we have done our best work, but an automatic second opinion is built in," Herring said. "We've never had a disagreement, but I would welcome it if we did because we could learn from it. This is a trust issue. We need assurances there is no rush to return to play for any reason."

IMO while its possible Landry might return sat I believe doctors & the team will sit him .

A 2010 study of high school athletes with concussions [3] reported that:

  • 27.0% had symptoms clear in less than 24 hours
  • 36.2% between 1 and 3 days,
  • 20.2% between 4 and 6 days,
  • 15.1% had symptoms lasting more than a week but less than a month; and
  • Only (1.5%) were still experiencing symptoms more than a month after injury.

Experts nevertheless caution that, while an estimated 80 to 90% of concussions heal spontaneously in the first 7 to 10 days, children and adolescents may require a longer rest period and/or extended period of non-contact exercise than adults because their developing brains cause them to experience a different physiological response to concussion than adults and take longer to recover, and they have other specific risk factors, such as the risk of second impact syndrome.
