I know being a Colt fan I can be bias in my opinion of Luck. That being said I think by saying Luck was the best rookie QB last season. There were some amazing rookie QBs and last season might go down as one of the greatest years of drafted QBs since 1983. Luck had a rag tag team put together by Grigson after taking over a 2-14 team. The head coach wasn't on the sidelines. He had a less than average defense. A less the average running game but that improved through the season. 37 new players on his team. 5 of his 7 receivers were rookies. He was being pounded on from the lack of a decent O-line. Took his team from a 2-14 team to a 11-5 playoff berth. Losing to the super bowl winners in the first round. Not one of the other rookie QBs faced that kind of rookie year. Not one other rookie QB put their team on their back and willed the wins the way Luck did. I think we as Colt fans couldn't have something so bad happen in 2011 with Manning missing a season and then being released. Then going through that painful season going 2-14 with Painter and the Collins. Thank god we have an owner who took the heat of releasing Manning and then the firings of the Polians. Fans and the press were ready to run Irsay out of town and or hang him from a tree. Hiring Grigson and Pagano and a whole new coaching staff took some guts. Grigson was down 38 million in dead cap space but still managed to put a winner on the field. Now steps in Andrew Luck. Time will tell the rest of the story!

I was shocked to see that he topped the list, but happy someone saw all the obstacles he had to overcome as a young QB being asked to fill a huge void. The list is pretty good overall, but the top 5 should be appreciated regardless. It's going to be a lot of fun watching these guys grow in this league.

Luck was definitely the best because he carried the Colts to 11-5 and had some amazing 4th quarter comebacks that reminded me of how Peyton would always win on the final drive.

 

Luck had his mistakes as any rookie does but I think this year will be a very good year for him.

Answer: Qbs #2 through 5.

 

I would argue that Luck was the #1 QB, and the zone read was the #2 QB. If you compare what Luck did this past year to QBs in any other year as traditional drop back passers-- prior to the influx of the zone read into the NFL-- you would think it's phenomenal. It's clear to me that the zone read has entered the NFL and has caused defenses to be hesitant, leading to much easer decisions and throws by the QB. This is not a knock against the other QBs, rather, my opinion that the other QBs were made to look much better by the simplicity of this offensive system. Their recent numbers are a clear outlier compared to the performance of all of the past QBs who have entered the NFL, mostly as traditional drop back passers.

I stated that their recent numbers are a clear outlier compared to the performance of all of the past QBs who have entered the NFL, mostly as traditional drop back passers.  The four mentioned and especially RGIII, Wilson, and Kaepernick have passer ratings at or very near 100, which is absurd for a first year player.

 

I did not say that they would not be anything special. I did imply that they too would have faced the same type of adversity as other QBs who have entered the league previously. That's a fair assessment.

Dude said he dropped off at the end of the year.  That wasn't really true, he had a long stretch of games with no INT's at the end of the year, and had a great game at home against the Texans.

 

He did have a bad playoff game against Baltimore though.  But he actually improved at the end of the regular season.

I would word that slightly different.  After all, the offenses are still the same as they've always been, verbiage, play-calls, etc.  There is the added element of the read option, but the system is still the same.  Its the play-action that makes the first read open and appear simplistic.  Slight difference 

 

Luck deserves everything he's getting.  And while RG3 mania may be drowning out a lot of the other things, anyone with half a brain knows Luck is right up there with the rest of them.

Rosenthal is terrible.  The people who do the Around the League articles on NFL.com are brutal.  They write these short, choppy article that have no analysis, are written poorly, and aren't even news.  A lot of times, it's things like "Romo prefers McDonald's to Burger King".  Stuff that isn't relevant to anything and has nothing to do with football.  Get rid of those guys and bring in more people like Bucky Brooks who help fans learn about the game.

This coming from a man who blogs? This is good information by a good writer one would hope for some respect on that level from a fellow "writer". I would imagine a blogger would be the first to appreciate it. (not to mention a blogger Colts fan)

Also it is the offseason. Articles like this will garner attention. If you don't like power ranking articles such as this you do not have to read them. Appears many other posters enjoyed the thread.
