Colts Defense!

Did we watch the same game? ponder made short completions most of the game... not alot you can do to defend that. Completions dont really tell the whole story either. Colts defense had a pretty good game, would have been even better if they had kept that tipped TD off the board.

It was good...

we were a tipped 4th down ball away from a 20-6 win... without our starting MLB...and DE

Redding was very good and Mathis was rolling..Bethea laid out big hits and Powers covered his man well..

There were some good things with the D. Cory Redding showed why he was the priority signing this offseason. Moala played on the Vikings side of the LOS most of the D. But,personally, I'm not going to give a lot of praise to a D that allows Christian Freakin' Ponder to go 27 of 35 for 245 yards and two TDs. Part of that is Manusky's fault, not calling the correct D, but some of that falls on the players as well.

Alot of that is check downs an short passes

Our defense looks too inconsistent, but they did play well today.

Redding was a GREAT addition this offseason. He's always pumped and he's a play maker.

We got a steal with Freeman. He's been playing amazing. Will be interesting where Angerer fits in when healthy. I'd assume Angerer gets his spot back and maybe Freeman takes Connor's spot? Really like our LBs.

i thought the D was pretty solid. AP was contained. We got pretty good pressure. Connor dropped a sure INT and the tipped pass for TD was flukey and probably would have been a INT by the LB if it wasnt tipped.

Was glad to see solid run D. Its been a while.

Which part am I supposed to give him credit? That Redding tipped it, that the receiver still caught it or that, or the poor defensive calls that allowed the Vikes to moves easily to the 7?

The main that that prevented fans from calling this a defensive meltdown by the Colts is the fantastic play of Luck, Avery and Wayne at the end of each half.

The other guys get paid in this league too...maybe you are new to the professional game, but making plays that end in defensive stops are good defense in the NFL. That it resulted in a busted play touchdown is no less of an accomplishment.

Defense played better than last week but that could be because of who we played. I'll hold my full praise until they can play well 2 games in a row.

I like what we did today, but Minnesota has no weapons other than AP. I'd like to see us against a better offensive team.

Great win though!

It will also be good when we get Chapman back on down the road. Also If Grigson keeps pounding the waiver wire, we may end up with a pretty solid defensive unit this year when it's all said and done. I really believe he can get something going.

haha Ponder challenged powers because davis shut his reciever down. the one guy that stood out is Redding. beast performance overall, i cant wait to see which pieces we add in FA next year because the front office has done quite an excellent job with the limited money they had this offseason. im impressed by the defense as a unit, i was also hoping hughes would show us he can do well in a 3-4, lets hope when he's in for freeney he can make something happen in the future. im excited for the rest of the season and as long as we keep playing like this and continue to work hard and get better who knows what we can accomplish.

So Harvin and Toby Gerhart are not worth mentioning even though they were running on our d like a knife through hot butter?

If you want to mention those guys fine, but no one is shaking in their boots to face Harvin and Gerhart. I respect Harvin, but he's only one guy. Are any of their receivers good outside of him?

My point was to say they only have one guy was taking a bit far as well

An underrated aspect of our D's performance (and probably a missed opportunity for Minnesota) was their inability to use Rudolph in the passing attack for most of the game. He's their 2nd best player in the passing game besides Harvin, but was a non-factor for most of the afternoon.

It speaks to the kind of pressure we were getting that the Vikings weren't able to do much with Rudolph, especially downfield.

Great win, with some great individual performances. But there are some concerning things.

Lack of turnovers being one, but something that's really stood out in the last two games to me is our defense really gettin worked in the 2nd half. Seems teams are making good adjustments, while we stand pat (seems familiar).

Again, great win with some good individual work, but Minn shooting themselves in the foot with several stupid penalties may have kept this game from a win to a 14pt loss.

Plenty more to build on and get better, but we aren't where we need to be. Yet....

That is where I wonder if Pagano is doing the playcalling for D or Manusky. I have to think Manusky. Manusky was known for the highest 3rd down conversion pct. across the league last year with the Chargers (Colts were 31st and Chargers were 32nd in 2011). The soft shell coverage we were playing with no extra heat brought against Ponder with 2 safeties deep definitely reminded me of the "prevent" defense we are used to seeing with Ron Meeks, Larry Coyer, and Manusky with the Chargers last year.

There was some room for error if we brought some heat on D, we were playing with a 2 TD lead. A few more blitzes was something we could have used. Their WR corp was not that deep and fast that we needed to worry about anyone other than Harvin beating 1-on-1s in blitz situations, hence the chances could have been taken, IMO.

Btw, I loved Mario Addison yesterday.

    • There won’t be anyone to sign if they want that long. But they will probably see what happens in OTA. Personally I don’t think colts have a time line. They are on diggs and Simmons schedule. It’s up to them when they feel like signing.
    • I watched the Kansas St.-Texas game from 2023 today and Mitchell was outstanding in that one. One long td(47 yards), another long reception(37 yards) and he had excellent blocks on CJ Baxters' 47 yard td run and two other excellent blocks that sprung runners for huge gains. If you had only watched the first half of that game while scouting Mitchell and saw nothing else you would have taken him in the top 10. That is how impressive he was in the first half of that game. I'll add this also, when watching Texas games from last year watch Mitchell BLOCK. I'm no scout and I don't watch 100's of hours of film, but from what I've seen of him at Georgia and his one year at Texas I don't know how he fell to number 52. Welcome to the Colts Adonai, I hope you burn up the league this year! Go Colts!
    • I was referring muscle-wise not his actual weight. Compared to the start of the season where imo he looked smaller, I think he added a lot more muscle
    • But he carries it well.   Honestly I doubt he’s that big now….   One would think he’s in good shape now that he’s being active for the first time in roughly 6+ months.     Im just thinking out loud….
    • CJ also made comments about being glad he wasn't drafted by Indy and how Indy is boring. I know he has the nice "humble beginnings" story, but he's making himself feel like a villain early. You don't want to annoy people that might be your future coworkers or employers. It's a bad look.
