What if Denver calls?

Denver has 11 draft choices...and 3  boys......3rd round choice WR Carlos Henderson, 5th round choice TE Jake Butt and 7th round choice QB Chad Kelly who were hurt during or before the preseason and never played a down last season.

Denver sucked last year and now has the 5th overall pick in the April draft.. We were extremely and frequently unlucky and, as a result, we have the 3rd overall pick.

Denver sucked because they didnt have a quarterback. The Colts have 2 QBs and certainly wont be drafting one in the first round

The point?

The Broncos are unlikely to bring 14 draft choices to camp (the 11 from this year and the 3 from 2017). They are going to be dealing like it was Friday night at the casino.

If the Browns and Giants don't take QBs, Denver may call and try to buy that No. 3 pick so they can pick a new QB.

What combination of assets would you accept to switch picks with Denver?

Any thoughts?

There is a very real possibility that the Colts don't get Barkley or B.Chubb.

If those two are gone it's almost guaranteed that they will trade back.

Even if Chubb is available, I suspect  they are trading back.

I think Colts fans are hoping for the "triple lindy".  Where in the Browns select Barlkey, Giants do what they do.  Then the Browns, Jets, and Broncos all trade up, in a bidding war, for their QB of choice.  Allowing the colts to draft Chubb/Nelson at 6 whilst acquiring many additional 2nd and possibly 3rd round picks......far fetched but fun.....

Not sold.

How many times in recent memory would Chubb have been the first pass rusher off the off the board?

People seem to like the idea of Chubb more than Chubb himself.

Who was first off the board last year? Myles Garret? I believe I heard that Pat Kirwan thinks Chubb is better prospect than Garrett was...  just saying.

If he becomes a Colt, I hope I am wrong, but I don't see it.  Who is the Chubb comparison?  Again, people seem to like the idea of Chubb more than Chubb himself.

Could Chubb be a solid-to-good player?  Sure. Is he Von Miller?  Absolutely not.  Do an A B with Von Miller's college tape...  Day and night.

Who is Chubb?   Great question, but in a few years, if Chubb is drafted top 3, I'm guessing #3 will appear to be overdrafted.

Why?  The drop off after him at that position is the largest positional drop off in the draft.

The thinking is....   Ballard wants to trade back...   collect lots of extra draft picks and still get a player he values highly....

More draft picks might mean a faster turnaround than perhaps one great impact player like Chubb.

That would be the line of thought...   and Ballard is everywhere saying he's open for business and ready to trade down for the right offer(s).

If Denver calls....   we answer the phone to see what they offer!    A Lawrence Welk 1 and a 2 and a 3...?

Is another franchise going to offer more?

Maybe.    But how far back would we have to move in order to get more?    That's the million dollar question...

I like how the OP makes it sound like the colts weren't actually bad last year and just unlucky haha

Regarding the trade back, I'd prefer to hop back only as far as Denver or Jets. However if Barkley and Chubb are both gone, than I'd be open to them

jumping back to maybe Miami, AZ, or even the Bills for a stockpile of draft picks. Not gonna lie the prospect of a future first really intices me.

I would ask for their first 3 picks for our 3rd overall. If Barkley and Chubb get taken 1 and 2, then the Broncos would be likely to want to trade up for Nelson as they know we would want him. If we get an extra 2nd and 3rd from them, I'd be happy. Honestly don't think they are too worried about us or the Browns taking their QB unless they know the Browns are interested in the same QB they are.

That would be the best scenario. Trade back to pick up an extra second, but not far enough to lose all the talent available. For the trade, I'd want Denver to give up their first, second and maybe a fourth. You might be able to get more out of them if you create a bidding war.

Chubb is good, but he is not as good as the combination of players we can potentially get from a tradeback.

Would you rather have Chubb or get a 1,2, and 3 and take Nelson, Rashaan Evans, and Rashaad Penny with those picks?

I'll take the latter please.

That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about,  Sumo...

Denver has (I believe) two 3rds, two 4ths and two 5ths....

For the right to switch 1st round picks  (3rd to 5th), we can get their extra 3rd and 4th and 5th (they have a barnyard full of picks) and everybody's happy, right?.

That's why its Denver..They pick 5th...its no big loss to us to move to 5th..

..and they have lots of picks they can send us.

It all comes down to whether they sign Kirk Cousins....If not.

They need a rookie QB. If  the Browns draft Barkley and the Giants don't take a QB, Denver would want their pick of ALL of the QBs..

We can ask for three or four lower round picks and they have them to spare.

Barkley and Chubb will be on the board when we pick because Cleveland will take a QB at 1 and NYG will sell to the highest bidder, probably the Jets, who will take a QB.  Denver won't call for our pick and will wait to trade with Cleveland at 4, if they trade at all for the third best QB left.

What if the Browns take Barkley No. 1 and the Giants take Nelson over Chubb because they still  have Eli.

We pick next and Denver, if they don't get Kirk Cousins, will be calling us so they can take the QB they want and need.

What's your deal in that scenario

It's not that we won't select him, it's that we trade back to 5th or 6th with qb needy teams, allowing us to get Chubb at a cheaper cost.

I don't know.  Its too hard to predict.

There's probably 3 QBs that could be the favorites of the top 6 teams, plus a RB too.  I don't know if anybody really wants Chubb over those other 4.  So there is 5 players for 6 teams,  I hope we can trade with someone and not be stuck with the 5th best player at #3.

What if "Krapway" offers us the 5th and their 40th in Round 2 for our 3rd because he needs a QB? That elevator music sounds much sexier now doesn't it?

No it dont..... I wouldn't lift a finger to help him get his 'franchise qb'. In '73 when we drafted a 'franchise qb' (him) he refused to play for us.

There will be other teams to trade down with I'm sure.

I think there could be several trading partners.

I could see a scenario where we trade back to number 4 and then even further back from number 4 with Jets/Denver, racking up a ton of early second round picks and still having an early first round pick.

Maybe the Bills are lining up a move for a QB, and would be ready to trade their two first round picks. While I'm not a fan of moving that far down, It would be something that Ballard would have to consider.
