theanarchist
1) Why is Josh Cribbs, who is taking up a million or so in cap space, still on this team? He didn't play well at all last year and Whalen can return kicks and punts and be more useful in the passing game if called upon to do so. Plus, you can sign a specialist as an undrafted FA. Clear the cap space! 2) Donald Thomas? Why is he still on the roster taking up over 3 million is cap space? 3 games in 2 years both ending in torn quad injuries. I guess there must be someone thinking that he can return from these injuries and have a chance at starting because if there isn't then why keep him around with that kind of price tag? Am I wrong? Donnie, please...
UKColt13
I agree on Cribbs. Waste of cap space. I think theyre keeping Donald to see what he is like health wise during OTAs. He wont make it out of camp I don't think.
BleedBlu8792
1) Its April; Whalen has really no more value to the passing game now than he did last year. He's pretty much in the same boat as Cribbs.2) Its AprilMore than likely the Colts are done with signing any more FA's. The Colts are still sitting on ~10M, so even if there was anyone out there they are targeting they have a reasonable amount to still sign whomever. Wait until post June 1st to ask these questions, as that's when certain contracts hit their "value" in terms of being terminated.
Smonroe
Agree with BleedBlu - it's April. I also agree Cribbs is a waste, but don't count on Whalen making the team. I still want to see if Thomas can play. There may be more to it with contracts and dates that we don't know about. But more importantly, like BB said - it's April! Bluefire4
I bet we wait and see if we can improve our return game in the draft with someone standing out in training camp. I don't see Cribbs making the final 53. Donald Thomas will make the roster if he stays healthy and provide us with good guard depth which is part of the reason I think we should stay away from guard/center in this draft. csmopar
We won't know the answers to these until after the draft. And even then, it may not be till training camp or eve preseason. That being said, I think Cribbs will be gone, thomas, I'm not so sure about
BigQandTheManiac
Jesus christ cribbs makes a mistake and all of yall want his head. Little do you guys know he's the best kick returner on the team. Whalen didn't do good when he was returning punts. All they have to do is tell him to fair catch more and he'll be fine. Also he had some nice returns for us but all you guys can remember is his fumble in a game, we would have lost anyway even if he didn't fumble. He just needs to know when to fair catch a ball, which is fixable. I think he'll be fine. He is our best returner on the team by a mile, lets not kid ourselves. Superman
Cribbs isn't hurting anything. I don't think he or Whalen make the team. The one that makes me nervous is Thomas. If he gets hurt during workouts or camp, they have to pay him for nothing again. To me, they shouldn't be letting him in the building without a restructured contract. Dark Superman
Probably just allowing these guys to come in and compete for a roster spot. There's basicwlly no reward releasing the now over releasing them right before the season starts. Free agency is over. I'm sure we want to see where a Cribbs is, because when we signed him he pretty much didn't play in a full year. Thomas will probably be based on his health, but the signing of Herremans is going to make it tough for us to keep him, especially at his current salary. However, I feel the Colts have no motive to keep him. I think they're probably waiting for June 1st to cut him. If I was in the front office I wouldn't let him on the property though, because he is "mayhem" PS I work for Allstate lol

They might be waiting until first OTAs in a couple weeks to examine him. If he looks good and the doctors feel good, a restructure with incentives would be a decent option. But if they let him on the field or in the weight room without re-doing his contract, they deserve whatever they get. A post-June 1 release (now a post-May 12 release, as of about a week ago) only saves the team an extra $250K in 2015, so I don't think that's a factor. Especially since they didn't use the designation on Landry, which would have saved an extra $1.75m. I hope they're still considering Gosder, also. Or, take the 500k hit and let him go. He's missed 30 of the last 32 games, and is a 3.75 mil cap hit risk if kept. I don't know what skills Thomas has any more with that lack of play/practice time. theanarchist
Cribbs is far better than Whalen and even if they kept whalen he wont get any playing time at WRCribbs had a better average than Whalen on Kickoff returns. His punt return numbers are lower. Here is the stat that gets me: in 26 punt return attempts Whalen had 17 Fair catches. In 19 punt return attempts Cribbs has 8 fair catches. The guy needs to learn to fair catch. He's too risky with the ball for the reward. Plus, Whalen makes half the $ Cribbs makes..

But that is neither here nor there. If Cribbs has not been able to "fix" his fair catching in the 1st 10 years what makes you think he can fix it in one year, especially when he has said that fair catching is not his game? I will correct, not everyone was saying the same thing about Whalen before the Colts signed Cribbs. There was a vocal minority. Lastly, he is not the best returner by a mile or by far or undisputable. He averaged almost 7 more yards per KR than Whalen and almost 1 yard less than Whalen per PR. He's the more explosive of the two returners but that does not equate to better.
