Check out this Landon Collins tape.

Yeah he's a 2nd round talent in my estimation.

Is there really that much of a drop off between him and the next best safety? I'm in agreemen with you, if Collins is really 2nd round material does that push the other safety's back a round? I'm still thinking the Colts roll with McDonald and Adams next year with as weak as this safety class is.

I agree I realize there is a drought at the position but I would be torn if he was sitting there at 29. I know it a position of need for us but is he that much better than the guys not from Alabama?

The word on Collins is an "in the box" safety and that Aurburn tape did nothing to dispell that.

1) The game strikes me as going away from a player with that as their main skill-set

2) See LaRon Landry

Our safety situation is bad. Adams has a nice year last year and props to him but I'm not sold that he will have another year like that. He's old and as far as the other safety's still on the roster none of them appear to be a playmaker. Howell showed some promise 2 years ago but with 2 straight seasons ending in injury I don't see how he can be counted on to be an every game starter. I'm sorry but I think we need a playmaker at Safety.

Just to be clear to everyone, I wasn't linking this tape to show his ability as a player, more because if one of the few all-22 games available.

I mean a Safety cant set there feet and launch into a TE or WR anymore so it really cuts down on the big hit factor of Safeties that can blow receiver up by launching at him. If your a Safety that cant cover worth a nickel nor tackle then there really is not much of a point of having ya on the team unless you learn to do those things

If we get Gerod Holliman in the second and James Sample in the third... watch out.

Both are from Louisville and the chemistry is there. Both are very productive playmakers.

Holliman doesn't tackle and might have the worst attitude I've seen from a player in a while.

14 interceptions the past season. The numbers speak for himself. He's a ball hawk safety.

Sounds like the corner from NC State everyone was enamored with a couple years ago. A ton of INTs in college often amounts to nothing. I don't see him making an impact in Sundays.

Doesn't change what has already been said about him. But I think the Steelers are a team that will reach for him even though he's second round material.

For whatever it's worth:

ESPN.com:   16th Best Player Overall   (McShay)

NFL.com:      13th Best Player Overall

CBSSports:   17th Best Player Overall

Just out of curiosity,  are there any websites run by anyone who have Collins OUT of the first round?

Just asking.....

He better pick it because he isn't tackling anyone. If you like Ints the kid Harris from Virginia will give you that and he isn't afraid to stick his nose in there and tackle. He needs to add strength or Randall from ASU.

I hope we stay far away from Holliman he avoids contact wrong sport for that

Think you are talking about Dontae Johnson selected in the 4th round by the 49ers who's looking at a shot at starting job next year. It would appear you don't pay very close attention on Sundays.

few would have anticipated Johnson's enjoying the year he did in 2014. Johnson played in all 16 games in 2014, starting three, and posted 34 tackles, six pass deflections and an interception returned for a touchdown—thoroughly decent numbers for a mid-round rookie.

He's talking about Amerson.

Dustin is right....   the player in question is Amerson.    Picked off 11 or 13 passes his junior year...  and a bunch his senior year.

Was a pure zone corner and never a good fit for the Colts.    On top of that,  most of the picks were not against ACC competition, but rather against tissue paper soft non-conference opponents who had no business ever throwing the ball.

A very misleading stat profile for Amerson.

I'm not sure how he's doing for Washington,  though I think he started this past year...

My apologies than the person I was high on last year who played both S/CB for NC ST had some int's and he's doing very well.

I think we all can agree college stats are pretty meaningless in the NFL heck a lot of times NFL stats don't paint a clear picture.

A guy that reminds me of Duante Johnson is Eric Rowe.

Both played S before moving to CB long arms can play press good size 6'1 but Rowe had a really good combine pushing his stock up.

I like him think he could eventually take over for Toler. The versatility of playing S doesn't hurt.

I'm not sure where he's going have seen him all over the place I'm guessing after the combine he moved into the top 100.

Row feels very low 3rd round or high 4th round to me about now....   that could change of course....

But he seems right on the edge of the top 100.

    • The best thing the staff did was cut Leonard. That set a clear tone that you either perform or you don't. We did have the luxury of still having two quality starting linebackers so that eased the pain of his loss.   I firmly believe had we not lost Flowers to the IR and Rodgers to Suspension that Baker would have absolutely been cut. As it is Baker is likely on the outside looking in with the additions of Abraham and Simpson, Moore being the stud he is and plus the healthy return of Flowers and the uptick in in-game ability of Brents and Jones.    Woods being on the IR all of last year hurt, but it allowed Mallory and Ogletree to grow. TE's have a hard transition from College to the Pro level and usually year 2-3 is when they start to really take off. We have talent there in that room and SS will creatively use it!   WR's...........Downs will continue to excel and grow in the slot and will become electric. MPJ is a Reggie Wayne technician type that will move the sticks and occasionally add in a big play - a much-needed type on the outside. AP ran the most go routes of any WR last year, but Minshew could not throw him open or hit him downfield when he was, that is not on AP as he was doing as was scripted by SS. He is our vertical threat that opens up the underneath routes for the TE's, Downs and MPJ. Add in AD now as the all-around WR that can take the top off, run with it after the catch and run a full route tree at full speed and they all complement each other very well! Add in a (hopefully) healthy AR5 and that can become a dynamic group of receivers!   Safety - an outside free agent isn't always the answer. And it's going to be a player on the downside of his career as a stop gap. Simmons is not coming to our rescue. He will likely go to a sure-fire contender. However, there are still a few 30+ guys that could be a good stopgap on a one-year deal. If I had my choice though, I'd go with a younger guy that may still have a few years of juice left in him like a Terrell Edmunds!
    • I wonder if they will sign any of the rookie invites over what we currently have rostered?   Combing thru the list the following intrigue me: Justin Strong - RB - strong production and a high RAS = Ballard's type. Perhaps over Goodson or Scott Will Perez - LB - Similar/Equivelent Measurables of Ballards Build-A-Backer concept (6'3"/224/32.125" Arms/4.61 40 - 8.82 RAS from Princeton so probably really smart too) over an Anderson or Ajiake
    • By calling him a crybaby, Doyel ruined Steichen interviews for eternity.  Listen to Steichen interviews from Philly.  He sounds like a perfectly normal dude.  Now, because of Doyel, Steichen is guarded, and will do the cheap Belichick impersonation as long as he is here.
    • The Fever have Bigs and Shooters, but those were triple teamed last year. Covering Caitlin will leave them to get open. She’s perfect for the Fever.
    • Thanks bestest buddy!   And wow, nice gift! You know what they say… food is the way to a Mom’s heart!  I know it was delicious! Great Sunday all around!
