Tua in Indy?

I was scrolling through draft stuff today, and came across an interesting article by one of my favorite draft analysts, Joe Marino. In this article, which can be found here, Marino mentions the Colts as a sleeper landing spot for the Alabama QB. Here is what is written:

The Indianapolis Colts don’t own a first-round selection but they do have picks Nos. 34 and 44 with the aging Philip Rivers on a one-year deal. Packaging those picks together for a move up to a team like Dallas at No. 17 isn’t a crazy thought to land a new franchise quarterback.

 

Though it does seem very unlikely, what would everyone think if this did happen? Make sure you read the article to fully understand why he would be available at that point of the draft. Though it is highly unlikely, it isn't impossible to think that it could happen.

I want no part of Tua. A hip injury = very bad and many injuries to the lower legs = bad. He will be lucky if he plays 3 or 4 years in the NFL.

I think if Ballard was sincerely interested in one of the top QBs they wouldn’t have traded away 13. 
 

If they draft a QB look for someone rounds 3-6. Possibly a James Morgan or Anthony Gordon.

At this point I agree that Morgan, Gordon and Hurts are realistic targets.

 

QB and WR with our round 2 picks.

Here is how perfect Tua in Indy would be.  He’d play one year and get injured then AL would return for the following year until he got injured and they would alternate that way keeping each other fresh and lengthening their respective careers by an additional 10 years.  
 

- this is to be read sarcastically.   I do not really mean this.

Wouldn't take him with a 7th rounder.

 

Screams bust ala RG3 all the way, except he is even more slightly built and will be more injury prone.

The kid has been beaten like a piñata.... and it’s only gonna get worse.

 

Aside from my belief that we’re probably done fiddling with the QB position... he’s medically off my wish list anyway, regardless of the round.... never mind a trade up costing us our two 2nd rounders.

much better passer than robert.  i dont agree that hes a guaranteed bust.  he wasnt actually that injury prone

Not an incredibly brilliant article because Tua is not getting out of the Top 5.

We have absolutely no idea what they plan to do at quarterback in this draft. Yes, "logic" might seem to suggest that signing Philip, trading away their 1st round pick, and keeping Jacoby at a starter's salary just to be the backup would mean they aren't looking to take a quarterback in the draft, and furthermore that they plan to let Jacoby learn from a Hall of Famer for a year or two so he can take over down the road, better than he was before.

 

But that could all be just a smokescreen, and they plan to take a quarterback with their first pick, maybe even trading up to do so, dump Jacoby after the draft (or possibly include him in that or another draft day  trade), and let the rookie back up and learn from Philip for a year or two.

 

Or they could be just keeping every chip they can, seeing how it all plays out while being ready to use those chips as the events and opportunities offer themselves up. Which is actually exactly what every team should do.

If Ballard trades up its going to be for Jordan Love. I just can't see Ballard giving up draft capital for one player when Anthony Gordon will be sitting there in round 3.

hes learned from both Brady & Luck now. I dont think learning from Rivers is gonna do much more for him lol

I don’t think he makes it out the 1st round but if he does, I think that’s an easy pick to make. He’s an elite QB prospect. Might be better than Burrow.

As I mentioned a long while back, there would essentially be no medical rechecks for most all guys. But for Tua, it would be likely different (because of his position and talent level).

 

He was just checked out by a physician voted on by all 32 teams. I guess Tua has been working out in Tennessee. (Tennessee Titans team doctor Thomas Byrd, who is considered one of the most respected hip specialists in the world, was the doctor chosen. He's one that other teams were familiar with and hold in high regard).  Also, all 32 team doctors/trainers had input on what tests they wanted carried out. So there's no stone unturned. And all results were shared with all 32 teams. Short scoop- Overwhelmingly positive.

I think at anytime prior, neither the NFL or NFL Physicians Society would typically allow this.

That’s been my thoughts on him as well. What else can he learn after working with two pros. Last years offseason he even worked with Brady’s throwing specialist iirc. I think we’ve honestly seen the ceiling at this point.

Which is why Tua will go fairly early on Day 1; the Colts won't be getting him.

The Anthony Gordon hype is something I will never understand. He’s a Day 3 pick. All the love he gets from this board and he’s the least talked about of all the QBs by every draft analyst.

Especially seeing as I don't think he takes Gordon either.

There is a lot of smoke that the dolphins are not going to take TUA.  Ballard has put a lot of emphasis on bringing in players this year like Bukner who have not had injury issues. Even if he fell I don’t think Ballard would take him.

He did take Hooker who had a shoulder injury coming out of college as well as Turray who missed a bunch of time in college because of injuries. Don’t think he’d have a problem drafting Tua because of injury concerns.

I think after last season he is going to look at injury history a lot more. Plus it’s a entire different ball game when it comes to quarterbacks.
