Yeah you have to love what Chris Ballard is doing right now. He sees what the weakest link is and he's improving it. Hard not to be excited with the potential of him making the key decisions

I assume he will beat out Parry because Ballard gave $2.5M. So I hope you are right that he's a better player...even though there's really nothing to suggest that he is.

I say Holder is bad -- and I say the same about most of the other guys who cover the Colts -- not because he wound up being wrong about this deal, but because of his body of work, especially over the last two years. He seems to be pretty good at keeping his eyes on where the action is/goes. He is not content with just doing his assignment, look for some additional action. Looks like he has a very nice awareness.

My statement said that if he beat Parry out he would be the better player.   I didn't say he was the better player, I said he had good ability as a depth player.  He's not just some random scrub that we pulled off the street.   Good enough to beat out Parry if given a chance.  The main thing we're honestly looking for here is the guy who is the better run stuffer and I think  Woods may likely be better than Parry at that.  Woods is a much bigger guy height and length wise to stand up to the pounding and he can play multiple positions across the defensive line.  Parrys sacks vs Woods sacks is not the end all be all.

Kind of what I saw too.... washes down the line of scrimmage well, never going back, and finds the ball even if it is a little late at times.... solid with room to grow

Fair enough. And for we all know, Ballard has more than just NT in mind. Sounds like a guy who could swat down passes all day and stuff RBs.

 

I wasn't trying to hate on Woods...I was just curious about the signing when Ballard obviously (given his pursuit of Hankins and Poe) was eyeing a stud NT. I  think the run defense is going improved to the point that it sticks out on tape.

I don't think sacks are necessarily the best measure of how good a NT is.

They aren't. But if someone mentions a NT's pass rush ability, they become relevant I think.
