After being humiliated once again by the Patriots the haters were reduced to being rats. More probable than not defated the football on the sidelines.

lol.

Brady has been the most hated athlete since he started winning rings out of the gate. This poll is wrong. No way 53 percent of people like Brady.  But he really is not interested in popularity. He is after all, Lord of the Rings:

Would that be Spygate or Deflategate haha    Just curious

I can understand this.

I am one who, before all this, gave him credit where credit was due, and as much as I disliked the Pats (mainly because they've been a thorn in our side) I could appreciate his story and his accomplishments.

From the minute he took the podium right after this broke until this latest information, my opinion has changed and I no longer have any respect for him at all.

Well said. My thoughts exactly. Especially after he had just used that go read the rule book line after the Ravens game.....

Don't psychoanalyze this in order to dismiss the reaction toward him. I don't hate him, but I do think he's cheated and now he's lying and he's unwilling to own up to it.

Winning is everyone's goal, not everyone does what he's done

He's desperately trying to put a positive spin on anything about Tom Brady. He can't not-do that.

Tom Brady is being berated

For balls that he ordered deflated

When pressed for the truth

His response was uncouth

On his legacy he's defecated

:lecture:

Brady needs his balls to be soft

in order to get proper loft

With two Bros he conspired

whom ended up fired

to his defense everyone scoffed

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12892245/poll-shows-new-england-patriots-qb-tom-brady-popularity-plummets-53-percent

The poll conducted by more than 1,000 people show a 53-47 percent split with 47% saying they now do not like Tom Brady.

Here's what I've gathered on a personal basis from across the country from known Patriot Fans :

Was Tom Brady cheating, lying, and trying to cover-up concerning DeFlateGate? ...

Out of 16 fans I engage with on a monthly basis ...

12 out of the 16 say : YES : he had done all three items mentioned in the question posed to them above. That's _ 75 % _ ! # HUGE.

Not scientific of course. But that reflects the totality of the nation, IMO.

the union allowed him to be the judge.

Yes, & not only that, the fact that Troy Vincent from the League Office read the Wells Report & handed down Brady's punishment means that Roger Goodell can look at Tom's appeal of his 4 game suspension with some level of distance & objectivity too. I won't claim that Roger has complete neutrality in the outcome of this case, but Goodell does deserve some credit for letting another league official impose the sentence itself.

Full disclosure here: I know I initially took issue with Goodell NOT ruling in the punishment phase of this deflate gate scandal, but after I gave it some more thought, I concluded that Roger made the right call stepping back initially & now taking the lead in hearing Brady's redress of grievances here. Yes, I'm aware that some devoted Patriots fans will claim that Goodell is trying to save face & restore his reputation, but I would ask those same fans isn't Brady attempting to do the exact same thing as well?

In fairness to my NE friends on the Forum, I'm off to read the Patriots Rebuttal to the Wells Report now from start to finish. I owe NE that. I will be fair minded, but if I believe an argument is nonsense like the "Deflator" name referring to weight loss. I'm going to say that. Be right back in a few minutes...

For all this lord of the rings humor about Montana and Brady, Marino is a better quarterback than both of them and he has zero thanks to some pretty craptastic teams.

I used to think Rice was hands down not only the best receiver, but GOAT across all positions. Since by his own admission he cheated I now think Moss is the best receiver of all time. (Not best PLAYER ever, though.)  Like Marino, Moss has zero rings.

My reaction to NE's Rebuttal of the Ted Wells Report:

--The NFL never warned the Patriots Organization about a possible issue with underinflated footballs.

I really don't know the protocol for how often the League warns either players or management about infractions. But, just like when NE wasn't required to warn John Harbuagh & the Ravens about Bill's plan to confuse Baltimore with de-active WR's in the divisional round of the Playoffs, I don't think the league was obligated to clue Bill in prior to the AFC Championship Game kicking off. Would it have been nice? Sure it would have been, but it's not mandatory. The DEA doesn't give a drug king pin a courtesy call an hour before they kick in the front door.

--Tom Brady signing his autograph on footballs hardly rises to the life of bribery in reference to gifts Mr. McNally received from our franchise QB.

Look, I will grant you that ball boys & equipment managers employed part time probably don't make that much money salary wise on the payroll & it is concievable that Brady signed his name to jerseys & footballs for McNally as a way to say thank you to him for the additional ball time preparation. I can accept that. However, the fact that at least 1 of those ball preparation guys was invited once & only once to Brady's QB room office to see how he was holding up as this story gained momentum doesn't look good at all. It's not proof of wrongdoing just odd given the circumstances. Also, don't pass this off as Brady signs his name countless times to devoted fans everyday inside Gillette Stadium. This incident isn't about a fan appreciation day in Massachusetts. It revolves around 2 equipment guys & Tom Brady that's it.

--NFL referees were inconsistent with the Gauges they used to verify PSI air pressure in NE footballs prior to the game & during halftime.

Honestly, I don't like the notion of attacking a zebras integrity at all meaning that you think the ref screwed up. It's like a State Trooper pulling you over for driving too fast & than you challenge if he or she has his speed gun calibrated correctly or pointed the gun wrongly at another car & busted you instead. The trooper isn't gonna be receptive to be called incompetent & they will probably give you the maximum fine available now. It's never a good idea to challenge what referees do as part of their daily job: ball security & calling penalties. The fact that the PSI measures taken weren't actually written down for record keeping purposes at the time of measurement was really stupid though. I will acknowledge that.

--Mr. Wells already had access to Mr. McNally & Mr. Jastremski’s text messages to Brady. He didn't need Brady's phone or a copy of the messages inside it.

Excuse me? The Patriots don't get to decide what they will & what they won't turn over in the course of an investigation they agreed to fully comply with. If Ted Wells requests your phone & offers to work with your attorney Don Yee as your liaison hand the darn thing over within 48 hours. I can't believe anyone would say no & think the matter is closed. Your attorney is there for your protection Tom do you really think he's gonna not have your back? Come on now.

--NE as an organization has issues with this investigation & how Ted Wells conducted his investigation namely how footballs were handled & the release of selective information.

Initially, Robert Kraft welcomed Ted Wells heading this investigation & now he takes offense to what his conclusions are.  Big surprise there. LOL! Also, Ted Wells didn't have to reach the threshold of absolute proof that Brady deflated balls just that everything together the text messages, the increased correspondence with McNally & Jastremski as the story broke & gained steam all over the sports media, & the league goes to great pains before the seasons starts to notify all 32 clubs of what the rules are means that Brady can't plead ignorance of the rules now. Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints wasn't allowed to use ignorance of Bounty Gate either. Brady knew what was going on here. Who are we kidding?

That's...that's actually a very fair point. Receivers in the NFL today all essentially have stickum by default. You're right that the stickum didn't have an advantage over receivers today...but he did have an advantage over receivers without stickum back then and he circumvented the rules.

Great player, but he was wrong to do it. Same thing with Brady. Even without cheating still one of the best to ever play...in Rice's case maybe even the best - but he still cheated.

the next time you see Parcells asked him about the 49ers and the headsets.

You do bring up a valid point Yehoodi. Not necessarily a counter argument here, but I will admit to you straight up, that I was shocked & disappointed when Jerry Rice said that. I love Jerry Rice too, but I can't condone what he did breaking a known rule, which gave Jerry a huge competitive advantage IMO. It doesn't rise to the level of deflated balls, but I do agree that cheating is cheating no matter what. Rice broke the rules & so did Brady regardless of either athletic talent or a high football IQ/intelligence.

Because I respect you Yehoodi, I will admit to you that I hate it when athletes admit to an infraction years after the fact. If you get away with something like a rule violation, keep it quiet & under raps. Case in point: I have a ton of admiration for tennis star Andre Agassi & I was thrown back when he admitted to taking illegal narcotics earlier in his illustrious career & still passing a urine test. Andre why devulge  this bombshell now? What purpose does it serve? Okay, coming clean is nice for your conscious I guess & being a role model to young kids and all, but darn don't taint my beloved image of you man. I loved watching your matches with Pete Sampras, your wife Steffi Graf is an awesome champion in her own right, I enjoyed your Cannon camera commercials, & both your long rebel rock star hair & your sophisticated bald look probably because I'm starting to lose hair on the back of my head too, but I digress.

Andre's matches against Boris Becker on both clay & grass were legendary too. I always loved what Becker said too. "Agassi is always tough. My legs are always exhausted after I face him. I can barely stand up let alone walk off the court." That may not be an exact quote from Boris word for word, but it's pretty close.

I just wish the Wells Rebuttal had dropped the McNally weight joke & went in the angle of a purple pill viagra joke regarding Deflate Gate. I wouldn't have bought it but I would have at least laughed pretty good.

If he thinks fans are dumb

And they'll treat this "ho hum"

He's downed an entire distillery

What about the headsets in New England? There seemed to be a problem with those also.. Just like a typical Patriot fan. Always down grading anything another team does. Some of you have become very good at that.

There are a lot of things going on, for our favorite teams and others.  My only point is that not all of our heroes or prior players/teams were as clean as some may think.  Who knows how clean the Pats really are in the end and more may come out in the future, but what gets forgotten about is others are not pristine clean and there are things that others do, and more often than not, folks over look it, or worst, actions of those who are praised end up being the same actions one finds wrong on others.   That can be very frustrating for me, the injustice in the comparison.

But things do happen and when we make comparisons, or call out players, then we need to endeavor to reference the same in others.  Oh and I forgot to mention about the late 80s/early 90s presalary cap era violation of the 49ers for having corporate ownership as part of the team ownership, something that was against the NFL rules at the time and benefitted the 49ers in having more money and funds to attract players, something that rule wanted to prevent.

So yes the 49ers were not clean, they had an against the rule advantage of more funds to attract more players, had players that used an illegal substance to enhance securing the balls, and on more than a few occasions when they had their first 15 plays scripted their head sets when out requiring the opponent to shut off theirs but it did not matter to the 49ers as much as they did not need the headsets as their first quarter or so plays were scripted.  then "all of a sudden" at the start of the 2nd qtrs. their headset started to work.

So bottom line lets not make out the 49ers are being clean.

As for the headsets in Foxboro, lets see what happens moving forward, from what I have heard it was more of a random thing as opposed a thing that coincided with the possible offending team not needing headsets.  But if it does come to pass down the road that the pats were involved with headset hanky panky, then I will be 100% behind you.

I do appreciate your comment. The thing that bothers me is a lot of Patriot fans seem to think things are OK as long as another team is in violation in one shape or form. You are replying to the 49ers and I get exactly what your comment was saying. But I have yet to find any dirty laundry on Montana. I am sure he was no angel but I cant recall anyone saying he was doing anything to gain the advantage himself but play lights out when the time was needed. Till this deflate thing is resolved there is going to be friction. The Colts forum is one of the very few where any fan is welcome. It seems to me that any Patriot fan who comes in and stirs trouble up or post remarks with the intention of causing negative feedback thinks they are being ganged up on. That is what happens when you enter another teams forum. There are also Patriot fans who have multiple names they post under in the Colts forum. Those are pretty easy to spot. The only dislike I really have for the Patriots is a rivalry thing. It is tough to keep it at that when I read so many piles of horse dung written by a few Patriot fans. There are good posters on both sides of the fence. There is no debate when some are not going to even consider any point of view but their own. Then it becomes nothing but arguments and nothing is being accomplished. I do have at least 5 Patriot fans on my ignore list and refuse to play their games. You, yourself would have to admit it is pretty sad for anyone to enter the forum and have the intention of pushing right up to the point of being booted. Wording their comments knowing full well what they are doing and the effects it will cause and then sitting back laughing and saying no one loves me. (sarcasm). I have never entered another teams forum and do that. I have no desire to do that. Why some do is beyond me.

Except the CBA prohibits anyone but Goodell to hand out punishments. This will be item #1 on the NFLPA's list during the appeal ...

On ESPN's First Take TV Show yesterday, I heard Skip Bayless make the argument that maybe Roger Goodell agreed to hear Brady's appeal because he is thinking of reducing the punishment down from 4 games himself because Brady has never been disciplined by the league before since SpyGate pertained to Bill Belichick not Tom Brady primarily making #12 a 1st time offender. It's an interesting theory, but then again the Commissioner works for 31 other franchises not just Kraft & if I was another owner, I'd be upset if Roger was lenient on Robert's club, who I still like BTW.

Some Pats fans wanna cling to the argument that deflated balls don't determine game victories it's only air pressure why drop the punishment sledge hammer so harshly? To that I say this: What's so devastating about a 4 game suspension when if your QB told the truth or turned over his phone willingly the penalty would have probably only be 2 games in the 1st place & no 1st round draft pick? Is it that hard to admit I made a mistake & I'm sorry? Okay, what if Brady is proclaiming with conviction "I didn't do what I'm accused of doing." Then, why the hades didn't he say just that at his 1st press conference regarding under inflated balls?

What's easier to throw all your cards on the table & say I made a mistake or dig your heels in & say screw it I'm Tom Brady & it's NE against the world? That's why this is a story: Brady's refusal to just come clean. 2 camps exist here at odds against each other. It's just air vs just tell the truth.

This is why I respect you the most Yehoodi: Because you are open to the possibility no matter how far fetched that your team isn't perfect & may have broken a rule. I admire team loyalty immensely & I would anticipate that devoted fan's 1st reaction to any controversy as "Oh please, get outta here with that garbage." If Deflate Gate happened to Luck or Manning I'd say the same thing myself. I guess what I'm saying is that I appreciate people who look at all the evidence gathered in a case & they aren't in total denial that their perfect image of a beloved star cannot be shattered or altered somewhat. Thank you.

In my opinion, Brady lied about under inflated balls, but he's still a 4 time SB Champion that I will continue to watch until he retires. I just wish he'd speak to the media again & come clean. Brady's still a 1st ballot HOF QB to me & while I don't like it when my Colts lose to the Patriots I don't hate the guy. I just wanna see a competitive Colts/Pats rivalry again.

You're a good man Yehoodi & extremely fair & objective in whatever you write my friend.

This is honestly all irrelevant...I get why you or anyone else would want to cmpare Brady to Montana, especially when it come sto cheating, but it doesn't matter.  You either tried to cheat or you didn't.  If you fall on the wrong side of the fence, you're rightly called a cheater.  End of story.

I am pulling hard for Washington because of Pierce who I think is one of the most underrated post-season clutch performers but I just can't see them winning their series vs Atlanta. But I would love it if they did.

You are probably right about the Clippers and their match up with the Cavs but I think Lebron breathed a big sigh when the Spurs went out.

Man I was hoping that shot Pierce made counted!  That was insane!  To bad it didn't count.  Hawks and Cavs next.

You know, Yehoodi, before your last paragraph here it seems as though you've pretty much indicted the entire NFL for cheating, lying,

and cover-ups, et.al. So, are you saying "everybody does this" in argumentation? Or, is it just the two or three mentioned above?

Kinda confused by your last paragraph by additional evidence needed to convict 100%. Just how much evidence do you need with regards to New England's shenanigans in any illegal/shape/or form to accept guilt?

It's honestly the dumbest challenge.  What do you think is going to happen?  It gets overturned, they start over, and Goodell hands out the same punishment.  And technically, he could dole out an even harsher punishment if he wanted to.

OffenselyPC, dw49 ... You both bring up this most interesting and intriguing point of view. White washing and starting this whole process all over again, certainly would not be the most logical thing to do from an NFL Fan opinionated point of view. The league, the Patriots, Brady, NFLPA, Goodell, Yee, and the entire affiliated personnel would be, in all likelihood, extremely castigated for doing this. Goodell surely has the power to see to it more punishment is doled out. I really do not feel all of this would happen, though. The obvious reasons are laid out right in front of all concerned.

The real questions here, IMO, is how far will the Patriots & Tom Brady take this process? How far will the NFL tolerate it? And to what extent does it cost them all by doing so? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

For the love of GOD, I anguish in the meantime, that all parties use their common sense for the benefit of the NFL & it's fans!

I 100% agree that he won't end up increasing the punishment.
