Jim Irsay press conference 3:30 pm EST

I highly doubt it's some of the theories being floated.

1. Wayne isn't going to retire before a playoff game also he would be included not just Irsay if it was Wayne.

2. Colts have a long term agreement to keep them in Indy. They aren't moving.

3. Jim Irsay would not be needed if they were making a player move like releasing Trent. They would just release him and move on.

I would guess this has something to do with either Jim turning over control to his daughters, that the Colts are maybe playing a game in London next year, or the city is doing something like bidding on the 2019 Super Bowl, or they are extending a coaching staff memeber's contract like Pep or something but again I think that would have been included in the announcement.

Wait a sec. . . Anyone think it's possible Irsay has some major medical condition that he's going to announce?  Perhaps even God forbid something terminal?

If that was the case I could see him giving up control of the team.

The thought crossed my mind about Coach's health, but I hesitated to speak it.

The 2015 London announcement has been made.

I'm thinking it might be Irsay's health.  His health or control of the team issue strikes me as the most plausible.

The second most plausible I think would be a Reggie Wayne or Cory Redding Retirement, but I would think that would be announced by that player and any formal press conference would be after the season is over.

I think futures contracts are contracts in principle to be officially signed upon being able to. I could be wrong tho

Futures contracts go into effect as soon as they're signed. There's no waiting period.

Duron Carter can't sign until all teams are done playing. I guess he could make his mind up whenever he wants, but he can't put pen to paper until after the Super Bowl.

Maybe Costanzo got an extension?

Would they drag Irsay out for that though?  Arn't extensions normally announced by Grigs/Pagano?

I really have a bad feeling this is about Irsay's health. . .

Honestly if you look at him today you can't say he looks very healthy and I don't think it's all back problems.  He appears to have lost a good deal of weight.

right I highly doubt they would annouce it right before a playoff game and become a distraction.

I think Blue is being retired, and we are bringing in a new mascot. As likely as most of the other suggestions....

Maybe we are signing Blue as a pass rush specialist? Did you see him hit that kid in the backfield? He got great penetration and his sack dance is awesome!

Yea some of these ideas are CRAZY.

If he was terminally ill or handing off control he wouldn't announce that NOW...he'd wait until the season was officially over for the Colts. The ONLY thing I can think of is just "basic" stuff...nothing earth shattering or "wow" factor here.

If one of our coaches did accept a position somewhere else I don't see them announcing that right now either UNLESS the coach who accepted the position HAS to leave immediately for some reason.

Again, don't see this as anything critical here.

Our coaches can't accept jobs until after the playoffs. Unless they are going to college. But i don't see pep burning the bridge back to the NFL

I could however definitely see the possibility that they would sign Ray Rice...they know how much our running game is in desperation mode and how much of a REAL SHOT we have at getting to the Super Bowl. I would not at all be surprised if that was indeed the announcement.

I don't think it's anything outside of just some personnel movements or changes. Perhaps Irsay is going to forfeit the upcoming game at Denver ?? :P

Pep...? Or is that suppose to be on hold until after the Colts are done playing ? Used to be that way , but now they can interview .. I just wonder if they are suppose to accept the job ?

Well they cant put pen to paper but I don't know if that also means that it cant be announced that HE WILL be putting pen to paper...In other words a verbal agreement might be in place. It happens with players, It could happen with coaches possibly

I seriously have zero idea. These theories are amazing, though...

I have a feeling we'll all be a little let down once this is done.

Saw a recent story where Pagano wrote a personal letter to a young fan who lost his dad to cancer.

Maybe the organization is doing something awesome for the kid?

Just throwing something positive out there.

could very well be something like this. Irsay once had a presser to announce the search for the Super Bowl rings. So it could be something like a fan contest or a community envovlement like you suggested.

There is no reason why they would announce Pep Hamilton taking a HC job before the biggest game of the season.

That would be wild. Maybe Pep didn't have permission to interview the other night, so they've dismissed him...

If you gave me 5000:1 on that, I might put $20 on it.

Maybe a "sigh of relief" is more like it. Hard to imagine it can be anything good. I don't think they can announce anything with Carter. I think what makes the most sense would be an issue with him... health or drug related. As some posters brought up any player being cut wouldn't need a press conference.

    • The issue some may have is the kind of journalism where Bob McGinn created an article that affected a young man's career based solely upon anonymous sources.   I'm confident you will reply back referring to your experience as a journalist with some version of 'without anonymous sources, there would be no journalism'. I value reading your insight about how sports are covered and I don't disagree that anonymous sources can be important. Its fair for anonymous sources to give background about things they are not comfortable saying out loud.   However, I'll add that perhaps its also fair for Bob McGinn to use his anonymous sources to help him find the story and craft the story, but if nobody will put their name on it then Bob McGinn needs to dig deeper before he launches infotainment into the world. He can't take back the damage he did to AD Mitchell.
    • So damn classy as always. I still rewatch their pandemic golf game from 2020. They just have awesome chemistry together. Hopefully they can get Tom on the Manningcast again for more hilarity.
    • Uuuugh.     I think it would’ve been better if I had preached a healthy dose of patience and NOT patients.
    • Feel the need to clarify something.   The writer of the article, Bob McGinn, is one of the top-10 football writers there is.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) McGinn does NOT have an opinion on Mitchell.  It’s the unnamed scouts who have the negative opinions.  McGinn is quoting them which is his job.  He is supposed to do that.     Ballard even acknowledged that in his own way.  He literally said “put your name on it!”   Well, McGinn’s name IS on it.  it’s his column.   But it’s the scouts who are saying things anonymously.   If there’s an issue, (if) it’s with them, not McGinn.
    • And when/if a team signs one of those safeties they’ll be made to look like a genius while Ballard is called a fool.    I think what’s more likely is that an injury will inevitably happen and a team will bring in an available free agent. That could be training camp. That could early in the season. You just never know.
