There's 11.4M Left in Cap Space

I think something is a little curious....

About a week to 10 days ago, wasn't the number being tossed around $11.7 MIll??

And then we signed DHB for what amounts to a $3 Mill dollar deal.  ($1.5M guaranteed)

So this latest update says the number barely moved even though we just spent a chunk of change on DHB.

Sounds like either the number from 10 days or so ago was wrong....   or this one is off....

Both can't be right.....

I read that the 2013 cap # came out at about 3.5 mil higher across the board then they 1st thought for the 2013 season.that could be why.

From everything I have heard from capologists over the last couple years, they say it is important to go into the season with about 10Million in cap space if possible because of emergencies and injuries. Sounds like we will have a little less than that, but close to it after signing our rookie class. Also, it is nice to know, what we don't spend goes to next year, where we will have another nice chunk of change for the off season. The numbers thrown around here have been about 35M in cap space for FA. If that is indeed the case, I wonder if we make as many signings as we did this year. I prefer the draft, but i like how we did not go after the huge names, but more along the lines of team chemistry. I hate to even say it, but the way the team I shall not mentions does so well is great quarterback play, and then plug and play through draft, and limited FA for team chemistry. With Luck, that should work for us over the next 15 yrs. hopefully.

This was our cap space on March 27th which was 11.7 NFL.com had released before DHB

http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap1000000154634/

Now subtract DHB cap hit this year from 11.7 and whatever the difference is between Havili and Geathers cap hits(from what I read I think we gained a little cap space from the trade) and that should be our remaining cap space.

I been gave up trying to find the exact number, just give me a rough estimate of what our cap space looks like and I'm fine

@gmbremer: According to numbers from the NFLPA, the #Colts have about $11.4M remaining in salary cap room.

Well there you go

I wish he was, but maybe at this point in his career he doesn't wanna play for cheap.

Possibly, but I'd be willing to give him 4M of Irsay's money to get him here. Gotta keep Luck upright, and he's one of the best pass protecting guards in the league. It really doesn't get much worse than Mike McGlynn, and he looks to be the starter for now.

I would assume they would move Reitz over, but his play last year left a lot to be desired too.

There are two bad deals working here:

1.  Grigson likes McGlynn and his so-called mean streak....per Mike Chappell

2.  Grigson likes Samson Satele.....

To me, these two have been Grigson's only true 'misses.'  OK...and Vaughn....man  cannot stand his CB play...or lack thereof.

I thought satele was suppose to be a 1 year fill in. maybe we will draft a center?? need to do something, i wouldnt trust Satele as the center for our QB much longer.  this is where i would love to see us draft Barrett Jones

3 year deal for Satele....not a fan as the forum knows...really like Shipley...the man just needed his shot...he performed well!

I would not draft a center unless a combo like you said...a Jones.....a Schwenke....or a Frederick (I like Frederick as a guard at his pr-Combine weight)

What is grigson supposed to say? "McGlynn is is a slow footed plug" .

Oline will be Castonzo, Someone, Satele, McGlynn, Cherlius

For some reason, I really feel like Satele is gonna win in TC & I just won't understand why

I hope not i want McGlynn gone and want Shipley or draft a center McGlynn and Satele both are terrrible draft Warford and Jones :)

If the shoe fits.... haha   I would use a few stronger words myself :)

I know I ave said this before, but I would have a mean streak too if I got bull rushed to my 'butt' ever other play  :funny:

Right, but I think they have to be at like 90% just wondering what the date was.

Under the new CBA, a team has to be at 89% for a 4 year period starting in 2013.  So for the collective seasons of 2013-2016 the Colts need to be at or above the 89% threshold or face penalty.  So to answer your question, that date is pretty far away.

    • I'm excited about our future. I think Ballard put together 2 very nice drafts in a row. Never thought we would get Latu, thought we had a better chance at Bowers. Still holding out hope for Cross, he flashes greatness than dissappears, hope he's consistent. Hope Woods takes lead in TE room. I keep writing off Granson, but he keeps impressing. Even if Richardson has a mediocre season I think the team around him could get us to 10-7.
    • I think you understood his words in a "positive" way, but that's not what he said.   He DID NOT say that "most of you would choose to get married..."   That's your implication. Of course, only women can bring children in this world and most of the women will choose to be married and have children, but that's not exactly what he said.   He said, "doing so - while some others will go on to lead successful career in the world - will take you closer to God's Will"    Here's what he said from the transcript:    He could've said, "even if you go on to have a very successful career, and get the greatest accolades of the world, I think the most important title of a woman is :  Homemaker. And, that would take you closer to God's Will"    But, he didn't say so because he wanted to say exactly what he believes women should do and brought God into that by saying that's His Will.    I think he made a mistake of implying that women are generally excited about marriage and having kids and being a homemaker, when that's only part of a woman's life - even though that could be the most cherished and blessed part of the life.   He only looked at how that made his wife's life - his words, not his wife's words by the way - and projected that to all the women.
    • This happens every single year and every single year people worry about the occasional unsigned rookie when we haven't even gotten into June yet.   Guys/gals... it's really a big nothing burger. Ever since the NFL introduced rookie scale contracts this has been a non-issue. Everything important in those contracts has been made non-negotiable. The negotiable things are largely minutiae - it's about schedule of payment...it's about off-set language, or language about voiding salary payments(for example - can the team void payments for suspensions and stuff like that), etc.   There are two cases I remember in the last 10 years where this has become a problem and the player has actually missed training camp practices because of it - Joey Bosa(because of schedule of payments dispute) and Roquan Smith(because of dispute about the language about voiding payments for suspensions because of play). And as you see... Both of those were top 10 picks. (i.e. more money on the line)...   Holdouts/holdins of day 2 and day 3 picks are pretty much unheard of. I personally couldn't find a single case when I looked for it.    AD seems to be taking part in both rookie mini camp and in OTAs and hasn't missed any practice, we haven't heard about any sort of dispute so far, so my assumption would be there is nothing to see here and it's all formality.    So yeah... Unless we hear there is a problem I would just assume everything is good.
