2022 Season Opener, Colts @ Texans, Sept. 11, 2022, 1 PM EDT

:coltslogo: football is back! :yahoo:

Optimism is running high among Colts fans with the addition of key players, the biggest of all being QB Matt Ryan. And the night before their opener, the Colts locked up one of their most valuable players for four more years!

To open the season, Colts travel to Houston to play one of their division rivals, the Texans.

The Texans are rebuilding after moving on from Deshaun Watson and they have a new but experienced head coach. Unlike the Texans, the Colts have assembled a strong team and are in a Win Now mode. They bring back arguably the best running back in the NFL in Jonathan Taylor. Fans believe Matt Ryan is an upgrade from Carson Wentz and Jacoby Brissett before that. Can Matt take another team to a Super Bowl?

Good luck. Enjoy the game.  :colts:

As a fan since 1984 as I was just 13 years old then (time flies), this will be the 39th season I have followed this team. I have seen the bad, the good, and the great over 38 seasons. Going into the season, this is the most optimistic I have been and making a deep playoff run since 2014 when Luck was great. If we can turn this into a 2006 SB winning run when we had Peyton that would be the cherry on top. The additions of Matt Ryan, Yannick, and Gilmore were solid. Drafting Pierce and Cross was much needed as well. Hopefully Leonard gets back to 100%, Taylor plays like the MVP he is, and we stay healthy. Pittman and Hines both should have career years. Congrats to Big Q on his contract too. Best Guard in the game. I love this time of year, let's do this!

Final predictions. Colts 27 Texans 17. Colts win 11 games and the AFC South. Colts make the AFC Title game.

Some of us lowlifes gotta work today:censored:! Ill be listening though!

I just worked all night but off on Sundays. I feel ok because I slept all day yesterday. I am staying up and going to cookout some Hamburgers and drink until there is no tomorrow. I just put in 55 hours last week but I told the people at work, don't bother me today, opening day is BIG lmao .

I'm so fired up for today.....

Whole day up to now consisted of preparation for game day.... Makin coleslaw, burger buns, putting more beer in the fridge, watching Gameday morning....

I'm sooooo excited not only to see the colts and Matty Ice ending our opening game loosing streak but to watch football again.

Wish everyone a beautiful and fun day!

Go Colts!

    • He has this 3/4 release point, super fast release, throwing at an upward angle, what I would call a 100mph fastball.  I can't tell that he learned much having a year + in the system, and I sure can't tell that our coaching staff has done anything to improve his throwing style and accuracy.  It has to be in his head that he is so bad at hitting very open pass catchers somewhere between belt high and their numbers.  All he has between his ears is smoking, rising fastballs.   Hey Coaching Dummies, Make him start by holding the ball 6 or so inches higher, get that elbow up off his side, and make him start his throwing motion from closer to the top of his shoulder.   It will slightly slow his super quick release which causes some eraticism, and should flatten out the arc, bring the ball down. How hard is this?      I preached that we should look back on how he looked the last 1/3 of the season. Those games will give us some truth to what his ceiling Might be.  For me, it's painful to watch him throw the ball 6' feet over someone's head then watch him walk off the field with that dazed look. It gives me this instant hopeless empty feeling.   Please, somebody fix him starting Now!!!
    • Na, just waiting till the right time to open up the playbook and release the beast.
    • If they had lost this game, then I think his seat would start warming up. And if this team did go 3-14, then yes, I don't think his job is safe. It shouldn't be.   But something like 5-7 wins, I don't see it happening. We are most likely looking at Ballard through 2025, probably a similar timeline for AR too.
    • Ebukam and Buck were everything we had at pass rush last season.   Credit to Partridge. Paye also put in a lot of effort this offseason and it's shown.
    • This is exactly right. In the offseason, every coach (Steichen, Turner, Cooter, AR's personal QB coach) talked about what he has been working on to refine his throwing motion. And all of the improvements he has made.   And so far, he doesn't look improved at all. If anything, he's gotten a bit worse. He throws those side-arm passes, sails passes, doesn't show much touch, etc.   I know it's his 7th game, but he's had NFL coaching for two years now, so some improvement in this area is a reasonable expectation. So is it coaching OR is is the player?    And if it's the player, then short of a Josh Allen-like transformation, not sure what they can do.
