We gonna do this again in 2023?  Starting two or three weeks before the draft?

We need some people to volunteer as commissioners. @csmopar, @chad72.  Any others??

Anyone have a fair way to award the Colts to a GM?

Can we get fans of other teams to draft for their teams? @Lurk McGurk, @VikingsFanInChennai, @RollerColt

Last year, we had a Raiders fan @LV-FrontRow

@CR91, @DAB68 @danlhart87 @coltsfanej, @Clem-Dog, @stitches @SaturdayAllDay  Do you all wish to play this year?

Has anyone seen @WarGhost21?

Where is @EastStreet? He had a good system for draft day.

@NFLfan - I am thinking the last week of March is a good one, post majority of FA but before the draft to do our mock draft. We can start signing GMs then and go from there.

Colts draft pick - we just ask participants if they want to abstain from being the Colts GM for fear of scrutiny or want to put their hat in the ring. Then, we randomize it using a randomizer online.

I thought I replied to this, but I must not have pressed "submit". Anyway, I ran the mock last year using EastStreet's system  with a few changes. It worked out well and it ran smoothly.

I am unable to lead it this year but I could help. I also will be unavailable on Friday, March 31st.

@RNGDShobby @runthepost @PureLuck Are you interested this year.

I know Archer and John Hammonds are. :)

Hi, I will play but with the timing I will probably need to send my picks to the commissioner in advance like last year. :thmup:

I don’t have the time to be commissioner this year. However, I do highly recommend EastStreet’s system. I think he also used a computer random draw to give all posters a fair shot at being the colts GM. I could put that together but beyond that, I just can’t commit to the time this year

Okay. I used his system last year but I don't believe I randomly assigned someone to the Colts. If I recall correctly, the Colts did not have a first round pick last year; so, being the Colts GM was not as desirable.

I cannot recall how EastStreet assigned someone to the the Colts 2 years ago, but if you have a way to randomly assign someone, please do.

Let's see who wants to play and who wishes be the commissioners.

All we have to do is get a list of 32 GMs together, I’ll plug it into the random generator,  and boom done. In the goal of fairness, I will abstain from putting myself into the generator.

so let’s start a list. Copy and paste from here down

@VikingsFanInChennai No Vikings??

I'm more interested to see someone else take their approach for Vikings. It gets stale if we try to do ourselves. :D

I'll try to be the Colts GM in the drawing. If I don't get it, I'll GM for the Bills.

We'll have you in for Bills.

I assume everyone interested will be in for Colts GM draw, and their team can be redistributed, if needed.

Thanks for volunteering to be Commish this year. RNGShobby requested the Broncos.

@csmopar If one of the Bears fans (like @Lurk McGurk) wants to participate, are you willing to take another team?

@VikingsFanInChennai Yes that's the way to go, start with 1 team for each GM first.

You were not able to be available during last year draft. Will you be able to take the commissioner responsibility? As I'm in different and exact opposite time zone than everyone else, it may not work out for me to be fully online during your daytime. That's the issue for me.

I'd be able to help and be the second eye to cross check things and update boards, if needed.

I’ll think on it. I did that last time. Would prefer  not too this time but let me think on it.

Okay. Neither fan has responded. You can keep the Bears.

    • I don't think that's the case.. when people here say Ballard is good at drafting especially, it doesn't mean he has no misses in his draft picks.    I was not trying to convince anyone about anything. My point was Roseman does have a knack of fixing his mistakes, like he missed on QB and WR, but did get top notch players at these positions very soon, while still keeping the rest of the roster a championship material, especially in the trenches.   Most of the GMs including Ballard struggle to fix some position groups while few others break down. I think that's where Roseman has differentiated himself from the rest of the crowd. He's got some far sighted vision and execution.    Anyway, I can't recall how we got here discussing this in Hopkins trade, probably from Vikings drafting Jefferson. I was not trying to get any point across to you, I just try to add points to the discussion and sometimes it would elicit response from the comment I choose to reply.
    • I'm not a football historian.  But a big leap probably came in the 1950s when the forward pass was being emphasized and a whole new level of complexity in planning and execution was introduced.  Then another in the 1970's when QBs like Bobby Douglas finally were relegated to dinosaur status.  Then another leap in the 1980s and 1990s when Bill Walsh and his Tree emphasized even more complexity and nuance.  Its probably been more iteration of back and forth and situational strategy from that point on more than its been an evolution as an entire league.     Many things get too complex for their own good and the evolution curve runs out of steam.  The level gets too complex to be sustainable and sort of implodes.  Then "back to basics" rises from the ashes.   The NFL probably has run its course in getting more complex so QBs like AR are probably in the perfect spot to capitalize on the NFLs regression back to basics.
    • It's simple. Watch Philly last year and that's what we will be playing; the 6 back offence.
    • They would have to eat $24.8M in dead cap from his signing bonus to do it. But that money has to be accounted for anyways, whether it's all at once or over the next few years.   The trading team would be taking $25M gtd in base salary with them and the Colts would be done with the deal.   There's some value in that I guess...saving $25M. The problem is that Q is still a useful player, so even though they would save $25M, they would need to get back something decent in return.   But how often do vet Gs get traded?   The trading team would get Q for 2/$25M...and then have options for years 3 and 4. On the surface, that contract has value, but a team could have just signed Shaq Mason in FA at that AAV. Or paid less for a player like Seumolo. It's not tough to find good LGs in FA.    So it would have to come down to the name recognition. I think a R1 pick is out of the question, but perhaps a R2 pick if some team really believed his recent play (especially last season) was an outlier and the medicals checked out. Given I am more pessimistic about Q than others, I would probably take it.
    • Yes they were a bad team. Coach McCay  was asked after a dismal loss what he thought of the teams execution and he replied "I am for it".
