This is it for the Gavin Mock Draft this year. I will update the lists tomorrow. Have a good day/night.

Thanks for all your hard work.  This was a HUGE commitment to arrange it all, field all the PM's for trades, and be present for the entirety of the draft.  (There's a reason why I didn't volunteer!)

You're welcome. It was a lot of fun. It does take commitment. I appreciate that most folks were either present at the time of their picks (or soon afterwards) or sent me a PM with their picks. It made it a bit easier to run.

I am looking forward to the actual draft on Thursday.

For the missed #137 pick, Minnesota Vikings select

Thomas Booker, IDL, Stanford

finally, a cardinal @NFLfan

Booker may need a year or two to build up more core strength and learn lot more from NFL coaching, but he has all the tools and experience to get to be a commanding starter real quick.

Thanks. That was the only Stanford player selected. We did not have any good prospects this year.

Monumental work really. Just being present for picks, or sending picks via PM was not easy, can't begin to imagine the effort @NFLfan just put in. It was fun, and thoroughly appreciated. Kudos

Do you have any favorite players who were not selected in the 4 rounds?

Notes:

  • I see that former Colts and Vikings offensive lineman Chris Hinton's son (same name) is among the undrafted. He is a defensive lineman.
  • A few Vikings fans like Jason Poe, OT, Mercer College (sleeper)
  • Mike Vrabel's son is in this draft too (Tyler Vrabel)

Round 3 Pick 103: Wan'Dale Robinson WR Kentucky

Round 4 Pick 121: Braxton Jones OT S.Utah

Round 4 Pick 135: Jojo Domann LB Nebraska

In retrospect, i'm not happy with picks 62 and 94. Should have waited a bit later for a RB though CEH has been less than stellar. And with 94, i had a formatting error, wanted to pick Kerby Joseph who @stitches sniped with the next pick.

The Chiefs have an entire draft's worth of picks in just the first 4 rounds. That's a ton of assets and building blocks waiting for Veach.

I’m happy with it. I probably wouldn’t have made the trade back up for RB if I had to do over with some of the guys that ended up falling at other positions I didn’t think would be there in the third. But hindsight is 20-20. Overall I think I got good value with my first 5 picks possibly all being 1st round guys followed by the best RB in the draft at a good value.

LOL! The Broncos re-signed Melvin Gordon to a 1 year contract either last night or this morning, so my Allgeier pick is already out the window! Oh well. Sometimes you never know.

What was the error? Did you have your own Big Board?

I wrote on the Vikings site that I may approve of Likely being selected in the third round or later. I was told that his 40 Time at his Pro Day was so poor that he may not be good enough for the NFL, regardless of his other attributes.

Do you like any of the undrafted guys? If this was the NFL, you all would be vying for some undrafted free agents.

I didnt cross check my board properly because i was in a hurry, so the list in the PM i sent you had the wrong order of preference. Definitely had Kerby above Likely and Wan'Dale. Once Dotson was picked, the next WR pick was going to be a 4th rounder or lower.

Yeah, i have my own board, around 90-100 players on it.

I certainly like quite a few of the guys we didnt get to. Abram Smith, Jake Ferguson, Alontae Taylor were the next three players who i have on my board.

I think this is the beginning of a very good draft for NYG.  Had we continued ILB and S would have been addressed.

Real draft- CB, WR, Edge

I trade up for Breece Hall

Ok Jets, I know you picked different names but I see what you did.  I won’t demand a $check$ this time,  but I’m open to a career change lol.

I was bang on position wise. Right positions, wrong players. Cross fell in our draft but would have easily went with Penning had Cross been taken. Brisker went 1 pick before the Saints 2nd round pick too. Would have been VERY interested to see what they would have done had he lasted to their pick.

  • 4 months later...

Irsay has been pretty clear and direct.   He thinks Ryan has 3-4 good years left.   Do I think the odds of using a first round pick in a QB who might not start until year 3-4 of his rookie contract is extremely unlikely.
We are in a Matt Ryan window, and using a first round pick on a player who will not help MR is a very long shot.

And a reminder, there are already FOUR teams who have TWO first round picks in 2023.    And two of them, Seattle and Detroit, are in the market for a QB.   We will not be able to out-bid them.

I don’t see us going after a QB until 24 at the earliest.   And yes, I know this view will be very, very unpopular.

Seattle Seahawks @VikingsFanInChennai

#4 Malik Willis, QB, Liberty

#41 David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan

#72 Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State

David Ojabo got picked at #45 by Batimore, has not played much.

Nicholas got drafted by Titans at #69, has played a lot in his rookie year, maybe rookie pains in the process.

Willis hasn't impressed much, but has to be seen if he progresses.

Seahawks actually drafted :

Quote

1 9  Charles Cross  OT  from Denver[R1 - 2]

2 40  Boye Mafe  DE  from Denver[R2 - 6]

2 41  Kenneth Walker III  RB

3 72  Abraham Lucas  OT

4 109  Coby Bryant  CB  from N.Y. Jets[R4 - 4]

5 153  Tariq Woolen † CB

5 158  Tyreke Smith  DE  from Miami via New England and Kansas City[R5 - 11]

7 229  Bo Melton  WR

7 233  Dareke Y oung  WR

I got at least two of the top position groups correct, Seahawks drafted a Rookie Pro-Bowl CB in 5th round!!

Hey! Everything is going well, thanks, been around but haven't been posting much. Hope things are going well for you too.

I am still pretty happy with those picks. Burks started off pretty rough but at least you can see the flashes that you expect will become more commonplace down the line. Cross looks like a stud already, and Brisker is a bright spot on a rough Bears Defense. Parham is similarly looking good on the Raiders, but needs an offseason of strength and conditioning training as he seems to be falling off a bit and hitting that rookie wall. Mitchell will take some time to work his way up the depth chart potentially, but he is seeing a few targets recently. About as good as can be expected from a late round pick.

All in all its looking good.
