Da'Rick Rogers - WR - Colts

According to the Indy Star, "signs point toward more of Da'Rick Rogers and less of Darrius Heyward-Bey" going forward.

When asked who will be starting across from T.Y. Hilton this week, coach Chuck Pagano was non-committal. "We've got four guys on the 53-man roster right now at the wide receiver position and we've got to do a great job of playing to their strengths," he said. "We're going to need them all." The Colts have seen what Heyward-Bey can do and it isn't pretty. Rogers is a name to keep on watch lists as he could be forging ahead as soon as this week.

Good to see the Colts coaching staff finally realize DHB is not the answer..

Rogers is going to get a chance as a Colt to do some great things with a talented young QB and Colts offense..

Let's hope for the best.

i dont get why we dont use brazill more. he can burn the top of a defense, not as good as ty, but still he has speed. we have to figure out how to free up ty

Moar speed would not free up TY. A big target who can run over the middle and get jump balls would. Rogers is a better compliment to Hilton than Brazill at this point.

I didnt say Brazill was awful. He is simply the same guy as TY Hilton. His skill set is redundant, not complimentary. Rogers is bigger and stronger, and is physically built to handle over the middle catches and jump balls better. Brazill is more Hilton's backup with Rogers and Heyward-Bey vying foe the #2 position.

thats why im saying let brazill use his speed to get open so teams will quit bracketing hilton. rogers is still a project.

Thats a one dimensional passing attack that wouldnt work very well outside of a playbook designed entirely around vertical passing, and would get torched by just about any zone scheme. As it stands, having 2 speedsters and going entirely 1 dimentional with the passing attack would not help anything. Rogers is a project, yes, but at this point, hes the reciever we need, not necessarily the one we deserve.

Doesn't matter much if they can get open downfield unless they can do it within 1.5 seconds so Luck can still be standing.

There's so much more to being a good WR than speed.  Being on the same page as the QB is #1.  Reggie was probably our slowest WR.

Brazill has been on the field plenty. Not sure how you're suggesting he be used. He's not a great route runner, but we do send him up the field plenty.

Josh Lenz should be elevated from the practice squad.  The coaches must be *s for letting this guy sit on the practice squad.  I've never seen this guy play but from what I've read he has:

  1. The track speed of Chris Rainey
  2. The moves of Wes Welker
  3. The hands of Jerry Rice
  4. The football knowledge of Peyton Manning
  5. The stamina of a Navy Seal.

They say when the first coach arrives at 5:30am, Lenz is already there lifting weights and when the last janitor leaves at midnight he is still there studying film.

I think in his first game he would catch 10 passes for 150+ yards and 2 or more TDs... or at the very least draw a pass interference penalty.  And when he does draw that PI, it will be the most awesome PI in the history of the game.

I agree with everything but #5. I was thinking a Army Ranger, but can see a Navy Seal too.

Coach Pags being non committal doesn't point to Rogers taking DHB's playing time but we can all hope.

The Indy Star is saying this not Pagano, I will believe it when I see it.

He is not much more of a project than Brazil is. Brazil made a few nice catches last year......he didn't exactly light it up. He hasn't done squat this year. A solid possession receiver is what is need to free up Hilton.

    • Wait what? Really? Have they watched the same games we have?!
    • The money really isn’t an issue to me, tbh. First of all, our ultra frugal GM makes sure to leave plenty of unused cap space, so it’s not like we need that money elsewhere.  Second, with the way the cap increases every year that deal’s percentage of cap space shrinks every year, and even at its highest %, it was peanuts.    While everyone else lost their minds about the deal being a record for a kicker that has always been a nonstarter for me, and in the grand scheme it’s not a huge deal.    Not getting what we paid for is another story, however.
    • Kind of funny actually considering he was the forum whipping boy all thru preseason and camp
    • It's just weird not seeing linebackers reading runs and going forward to drill rb's in a hole.   Leonard's turnover creating peanut punches and interceptions helped mask how weak our D's were. Ballard is a failure at producing a contender type D.  And there are more than enough points on the graph as proof.
    • It is crazy. The fanbase thinks they were going to avoid the whole team struggling. But the Colts D is even worse this year and young Ant Rich doesn't even play D lol. If this keeps up, Gus is gonna get on the bus outta town. Speakin of "Stop it," I'd like to see this D stop somethin, stop anything. Stop the run, stop the pass, and do not let da Bears, with their rookie QB and trash oline, look like a real offense, or I'll panic for real. The D needs to get this turned around so that "My Bad" Bullhead Ballard will still be here to extend some more contracts. Ol' Jimmy I. is patient, but I bet he doesn't like looking like a fool.     NFL defense rankings 2024   30. Indianapolis Colts (28): Worst NFL defenses 2024 Let’s put things into perspective with this Indianapolis Colts defense. Malik Willis, who entered Sunday with a career 48.7 QB rating, completed 85.7 percent of his 14 pass attempts for 1 touchdown and 126.8 passing yards. That means through two weeks, this Colts defense has allowed a 115-plus QB rating in consecutive games. As for the Colts run defense, this group surrendered over 200 rushing yards for the second consecutive week. It’s inexplicable why Gus Bradley was retained and even more baffling why this unit wasn’t adequately addressed by GM Chris Ballard this offseason. Ultimately, it will be the Colts’ undoing.   https://sportsnaut.com/nfl-defense-rankings/
