Height and development

plus we dont necessarily have to hope a wr with his size falls to us late in the draft now although I still like the idea of getting Dan Buckner late or Kauffman, but now we have a guy that can potentially go up and get jump balls if he works out

Yeah I like the move...AFL receivers tend to be more physical, the kid played DE in college and WR???? I'm very much intrigued He and Fleener on intermediate routes is going to be interesting

I was just about to say the same thing: Strong enough to play DE, but enough hands to play WR.

He fits the bill when I suggested to those wanting a big WR for cheap to go after Ramses Barden. This guy is probably less injury prone than Barden and he will work for peanuts until he has proven himself.

If he pans out to be a #4 or #5 WR on our team then I could see him being a decoy/jump ball specialist early on until he fine tunes his game for the NFL experience.

If we had anyone but Grigson, I wouldn't think much about this kid,...but with Grigson, he may very well see something special in him.  Exciting.

I agree... It shows that Grigson is looking at potential, rather than stats. But I also wonder what kept this kid under the radar?

The Colts did not score well in the red zone this year. A lot of that was due to the type of plays that we ran in the red zone, and the fact that we couldn't run it well in the red zone (Luck led the team in rushing TDs). This signing screams RED ZONE target, but not necessarily someone that we can use all throughout the field.

Why in the world did we sign this guy? According to the article he hasn't done anything. Save your money Jim. Get someone with substance

he is mainly that big red zone WR most teams would love to have that can jump over 5'10 5'9 CB's. if this guy can develop into a NFL WR , he wouldnt be a bad guy to have on the team. plus he does have some speed.

Not every player matures or peaks at the same time,  especially right out of college.

Some need another year or two (or more)....     the go to Canada...  they went to NFL Europe...

The play Arena Ball (or whatever it's called these days)...     sometimes they need more time or another coach....

I think Grigson has clearly earned our trust...   he isn't the NFL Executive of the Year for nothing...!

If Grigson is on board then I think we should all be on board.    And even if the kid doesn't work out,  what's the downside?   We might still sign or draft a tall WR...   who knows?

All I know is Grigson seems relentless in his pursuit of more talent.    My kind of GM...!!

according to this article, him and 3 others had their sights set on the NFL in 2011. all 4 were getting 10 to 12 calls from teams but no one made it. and it was thought maybe because 3 of the 4 played at div 2 or lower schools.  Kelley himself had a great pro day but just could not get his break. so he went to the arena league. just because you cant make the NFL does not mean your not good enough to still play professionally in a different league.

I wasn't making the assumption he wasn't good enough to play in the league... I just wondered why a guy with his skill set (big, strong WR) didn't catch a break sooner. A lot of it has to do with what NewColtsFan said about developing longer than other players, but I just can't help but wonder if there was any other factor from teams taking a chance on him last year when he was getting 10-12 calls as you said.

We are seriously hurting for news aren't we :)

Well they do not call it a "Reserve/Future"  Contract for nothing!!!  I thought Dominique Jones was a good find last year, and he played pretty well in the pre-season.  He was waived a couple of times yet he is back with the Colts as well on a Reserve/Future contract.

Last year our forum would have called Kelley 'camp fodder,' now we all have open eyes based on the Executive of the Year's handling of the roster....guys like Jones, Freeman, Hickman, Guy, Geathers, and Heard coming from the street to make plays.

We will not even go into the TY's of the world or Vick Ballards...or Dwayne Allens of the world in the draft.....HMMM...I guess I just did   :funny:   Just like Jake Killeen....show up....put your pads on and show Pags and Grigs you can play.....and you my friend will play!   :colts:  :colts:  :colts: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maine fell threw the cracks.

Wouldnt it be crazy if this guy winds up being another calvin Johnson or Andre Johnson kinda guy. That would be a storyline coming from the Arena League for sure. and Grigson would become infamous for finding guys like freeman and this guy. He also picked up butler who was out of work and came in with two pick sixes and 4? interceptions? And the trade for Vontae davis who, by the way, made aandre Johnson look terrible in the final game. That last interception, Vontae was actually running Johnsons route with Andre 5 yds back. Way ta go, Grigson!!! Remember Polian started out wonderful too. Picking Manning and wayne and James among other Colts Greats. I Trust the office on this one. he looks good in the videos, seems to fight for the ball and YAC alot! Colts seem to be the Kings of Feel good stories. This would be a good one.
