Are the Colts Equipped to Take Down Kansas City?

Just as Rivers did 16 months ago at Arrowhead. He was absolutely brilliant in the second half, leading the team back from a 14 pt 4th quarter deficit. If you have any doubts about his ability to beat the Chiefs, watch that game.

I haven’t watched it. I might do that.

No, nor should they be.  You don't build an NFL team with the idea of beating a single NFL team.

And my wife is a Chiefs fan, so I'm very happy when the Colts beat the chiefs but it's not like the Chiefs were at full strength... no Hill, no Watkins, Mahomes gimpy and unable to buy time in the pocket which was made worse with no Fischer and no Shwartz (May the Schwarz be with you) and Chris Jones left in the 3rd quarter.

I don't feel sorry for the Chiefs and I'm not taking anything away from the Colts win, just saying the Colts did not face the same team that went to the playoffs.

I'm stating my opinion.  It gives me kicks and giggles how some love to bash Jacoby but want to come to the defense of  Luck for any remotely critical comment.  He played a bad game that Saturday.  Just face it.  He was off.  Lost fumble, four of his passes batted down at the line of scrimmage, passes looked off, and the offense kept committing penalty after penalty.  He did not manage the game well and the Colts lost resoundingly.

Jacoby on the other hand played within his means. Limited mistakes.  Stuck with the game plan and allowed his team to emerge from Arrowhead stadium with the  W.  It is what it is.   Jacoby managed the game better.  Offense had a better game plan which was actually executed and the Colts won the game.  The man deserves his due credit for that.

Be careful, you say anything at all good about JB you will have the haters come out of the woodwork lmao .

Regarding can we beat KC this upcoming year which is the topic, I would say we can but we would be at least 7 point underdogs if the game was at KC. I would give us a 40% chance of beating them because of our O.Line/running game. + Rivers is an upgrade over JB. So I say 40/60 which isn't bad odds but we would have to control the clock to do it.

Clearly, the best way to stop the Chiefs offense is to keep them off the field. The Colts should have some success in the "ground and pound" game, but two questions remain:

1. Can Rivers keep the chains moving on longer third downs?

2. Can the upgraded D-line get to Mahomes enough to win the game?

I do think the Colts can score on the Chiefs' D.

Agreed it was a team loss.  But Luck had a no show type of performance opposite one of the best QBs in the game so it wasn't a good look for him.

Jacoby catches so much grief on this forum so sometimes I like to rub in that he played a better game opposite Mahomes than Luck did in that playoff game.  For kicks and giggles.

Jacoby didn't have to carry the team which was always the case with luck if jacoby had to carry this offense he would fall flat on his face too sorry but luck was and always will be better than him.

Which is why it is so ironic he’s gone, when we finally have a team that can stand on their own two feet...

I would call that the damage was already done to him that's why the way the colts mismanaged his injuries im not surprised he retired early colts ruined him.

Just to be clear. I am in no way stating that Jacoby is a better QB than Andrew Luck.  Come on man.  We all know better.

Thing is Luck’s team was talented enough that season that Luck really didn’t need to try to carry them.  They had a physical running game and going into that game many Colts fans including myself thought we had a chance of going into Arrowhead and playing some smash mouth playoff football for once. Didn’t turn out that way.   I think our defense also let us down that game and it ended up putting more pressure on Luck. And we all saw how that ended.

The game plan that the Colt utilized in the Sunday Night game was more like how I expected the Colts to play in that playoff game.  Since Luck is the more talented QB I felt the threat of his passing and the physicality of the run game would have kept the Chiefs off balance.  But somehow Jacoby with less passing talent was able to execute the exact game plan necessary to beat them...whereas Luck on that particular day could not.  I know Jacoby didn’t set the world on fire that night passing the ball.  But he made enough plays to allow his team to win the game.  He played within himself and did not try to do too much.  Most importantly, he protected the football and did not lose the game for them.

So you don't think Luck himself had anything to do with his injuries?

How about the snowboarding injury that he didn't want to talk about?

That was the injury that put him out for a year.

Im not saying that and no the shoulder wouldn't have been that bad if the colts would have not been stupid and built around him before the shoulder injury first happened cause then it probably would have been so easy for that shoulder to be hurt bad enough to knock him out for a season colts screwed him when they didn't give him a worth a crap supporting cast and then they mismanaged the shoulder injury after that in reality they should have never let him play with that injury in the 2016 season every week he seem to get dropped on that shoulder injuring t more with each passing week.

Not to be argumentative but what are your credentials where you are qualified to determine what injuries happened to Luck and when they happened?

I agree that Grigson did not succeed in getting players to protect Luck but it wasn't from the lack of trying.

We as fans were not privy to the information because of the HIPPA laws so in reality all we had is opinions to base our thoughts.

Luck himself was the main culprit in his own injury to his shoulder.

I think the way Chris Ballard is constructing the Indianapolis Colts makes them a very tough matchup for the Chiefs.  Last season, we saw a Colts team under the direction of our now backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett execute almost perfectly a ground and pound game plan that should have been utilized a year earlier in the AFC Divisional round.  The Colts dominated the Chiefs at the line of scrimage and the Chiefs had no answer to Marlon Mack running behind Quentin Nelson.  Now that offense is led by Phillip Rivers who has had many battles with the Chiefs as a member of the Chargers.  And the Colts still have Brissett on the roster who showed that he was able to do something that Luck couldn't and that was lead the team to a victory at Arrowhead over the Mahomes led Chiefs.   In additon, our running attack that battered the Chiefs last season has gotten more powerful with the addition of Jonathan Taylor and a run blocking specialist full back in Roosevelt Nix. The Colts have also augmented the passing attack with the addition of big bodied receiver Michael Pittman, Jr.

On that faithul Sunday night of last season, the Colts defense led by Justin Houston (amped up to face his former team), and Kemoko Turay harassed a gimpy Patrick Mahomes all day and essentially contributed to him missing a portion of last season.  The Colts held Mahomes to his lowest point output of his career at that point.  Now Ballard has added Deforest Buckner to the middle of that defensive front.  Buckner's presence was definitely felt in last year's Super Bowl as he made life very difficult for Mahomes in the early going.

The recipe to beating the Chiefs seems to involve pressuring Mahomes on defense and pounding the rock with a physical running game on offense.  The Colts appear to have significantly improved in both areas.  I see alot of teams in the AFC West trying to match K.C.'s offensive firepower.  Ballard seems to be building a potential K.C. killer that will dominate them in the trenches but also with enough passing weapons to keep them honest when necessary.  That was something that Tennessee was lacking in the AFC Championship last season.

Do you think the Colts are built to beat the Chiefs?

Are the Chiefs built to beat the COLTS:rock:

Brissett did not “lead the team to victory.” He had 151 yards, 0 TDs and 1 INT. It was his lowest passer rating of the season at 61.1.

It was a great win...but it was early in the season and KC was without their top two starting WRs and Mahomes was visibly gimpy. KC has since won the SB...and they added a dynamic RB to their weapons...on top of bringing everyone back.

They will be a different team next time the Colts face them. This time...I think the offense will have to play keep up...and I think they can.

However, if I remember correctly it was the Colts in that game that caused him to be gimpy. Was it avoiding the passrush??? Can't quite remember.

Only if Buckner lives up to the hype and Rhodes regains his all-pro form

Well there is no hype with Buckner.  He is a proven all pro. He just needs to continue playing as well as he did in San Fran.  So I think the word “expectations” is more appropriate than “hype” in his case.  But I get the gist of what you meant overall.

I can't say for sure, but I'd wager this team isn't dissimilar to what the Chargers have fielded talent wise in the last few years. Didn't Rivers beat Mahomes? I'm thinking he did? That'd be my metric for a guesstimation right now.

I truly believe it’s up to The Oline and Dlines on just how far this team goes .The skill positions are plenty good enough to win a super bowl .Coaching And both Lines will tell the tale .Rivers will bring a top 5 passing game and they may have the best 123 back combo in all of Football.Frank must make the most of this team it may be the best he ever has .
