Newsome had play of the game

Newsome is the best pass rusher we have and will get even better IMO. The strip sack was a signature play for him this season to add to an already great rookie season. He's a first round gem that we drafted in the 5th. Hope to have him here for the next 10-15 years as our starting rush linebacker.

I like this kid. Next year he and Mathis are going to be 3rd down strip-sack machines.

I still like Werner, too as an all around backer, but he doesn't get to the qb as well as he did at Florida State...

i think Werner is a first and second down guy while Newsome will be the third down pass rushing specialist.

He's definitely a keeper! By far our best rusher, and he has all the physical tools to be a nightmare for opposing QB's. What a find by Grigson!

Moncrief was also a great find. He's playing great for a third rounder now that he's had time to settle in and now that Reggie Wayne is taking a backseat.

True, and that's kind of a shame.  Werner was supposed to be the heir apparent to Mathis, right?  Maybe he just needs to be in when we go to the 4-3.

maybe it is time to move him to a different position, But I will not speculate until next season see if he starts to catch up in training camp still plenty of season to go though see what happens in foxboro

Remember when everyone was saying early this season that we needed to get an OLB early in the draft? Newsome has really showed he has a future here. And he's still very raw. A little more coaching and teaching from Mathis and he may be an elite pass rusher. He's the heir apparent to Robert Mathis.

That play set the tone for the rest of the game.

i don't think he was ever supposed to be the apparent. I've never heard the Colts say that. I think he's much more of a Walden who can set the edge but get to the QB once in a while while Newsome is much more of a Mathis in that he's a pass rushing specialist.

Anyone who has not found Rick Venturi on 1070 The Fan needs to do it.  He said in previewing the game that there needs to be an impact play on one of the early series in the game on defense.  And then Newsome delivers.  It changed the game.

That was my take when the Colts drafted Werner... that he was there as a back-up in case Walden didn't work out but if Walden did work out then Werner would have a year or two of spot duty while learning.  He was thrown into the rush LB spot because of the suspension of Mathis and Newsome not being ready.

    • The Colts handed Taylor a boat load of money which is unheard for a running back in today’s NFL.  You don’t do that and take him off the field in crucial situations for Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson.  Shane has done just that in two of the last three games he’s coached.  Not playing maybe your best offensive weapon for a whole fourth quarter is criminal.  Shane is trying to be too cute and over thinking things trying to fool other teams and it’s not working in the slightest.  Play your best players at the most critical points of games.  That’s why you paid them.
    • People come up with the strangest over reactions ever when the Colts lose.
    • I agree 100 Ballard time is up , him and Bradley. You can preach accountability and retain Bradley another year….Ballard loves to say guys just need to hit the layup… he should take his own advice we all knew we needed help in the secondary this year no moves, we all knew we needed help last year at corner , oline year before. I talking about obvious weaknesses media calls him out on it year after year and he plays it off like he smarter than everyone then admit mistakes at the end of year and does the same thing. Bradley doesn’t make any adjustment like he runs what he runs and that it
    • To be honest this is malpractice by Ballard ….. like I know they think us fans are stupid but some of us played sports , coached sports , watched sports etc… we know what we are seeing like everyone knew we needed depth in the second. But Ballard doesn’t bring vets in and makes guys compete for a job he hands them to players he thinks are nice people a deserve a shot. Ala Pinter, NFL is a league where you get what you earn ,you eat what you kill , not what you deserve. Ballard need to take a hard look at him self at look at how other teams that win are built. We need speed at the corner position and a scheme shift. Like no HC under Ballard has been able to pick they DC he normally has one before they get hired and they retain Ballard guy
