The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent running back Michael Hill to the active roster and placed guard Hugh Thornton on Injured Reserve.

Hill, 5-10, 210 pounds, re-joins the Colts after spending time on the team’s practice squad in November 2014. He was then signed to the Washington Redskins practice squad on December 9. Hill was originally signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent on April 27, 2013 and also spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers before joining the Colts. As a rookie in 2013, he played in eight games and rushed for 23 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 23 yards. He also returned one kickoff for 19 yards. Hill finished his collegiate career at Missouri Western State as the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards (4,969), all-purpose yards (5,851), rushing attempts (928) and 100-yard rushing games (20). As a senior in 2012, he led the nation (Division II) with a school-record 2,168 yards on 311 carries (7.0 avg.). Hill finished as the runner-up for the Harlon Hill Award, given to the nation’s top player in Division II.

Meh, when healthy he's nothing special. He won't be missed much

When healthy the guy can play,  he may not be special,  but he can play.  He just hasn't been healthy practically the entire year.

At the very least,  he'd be depth.     And in case you hadn't notice,  we need all the depth we can get.

11 different starting OL combinations this year.     Depth is always important.

    • Well, it could be a little bit of missing Buckner, Ebukan, Kwity, Lewis.  And having Flowers rather than our local CB hope what's his name.   Ballard provides the players for his preferred Soft defense and Gus and his ancient LB and DB coaches do what they know with what they are provided.   Hopefully Jones and Cross turn into really solid players no matter who their DC is.    Still a big if.   I don't want to disparage our LB's under our current staffs tutelage/designs.   And if we fired Gus today his LB and DB coach would need to ride on the same bus. They have been together so long because they think alike I must believe.   It's a serious dodoo situation with this many games left.  Don't you wonder what the daughters are thinking and talking to Daddy about?  I bet the girls would like to fire Gus's behind.   Monday morning thoughts on a rainy day.
    • Hey, he leaves the Seahawks, the very next year Dan Quinn comes in and coaches the Legion of Boom to a SB win.   Then goes on to underachieve with the Jags as HC in 2013-2016, ironically the last time we beat Jaguars in Jacksonville. Then he leaves starting 2017 and Jaguars make the AFCCG but Bortles holds them back vs Brady.   Definition of insanity is his D.
    • Sounds right. The Colts are second to last in the league now in giving up 8.4 yards per passing attempt and near the bottom in allowing opposing QBs to complete 71.7% of their passes. And that's after playing mostly B-level QBs so far. Yikes.
    • If I was an opposing offense, I'd be salivating at playing a Gus Bradley Defense    Colts are the worst ranked defense in the league in 2024  They were 24th in 2023  They were 27th in 2022    They were 10th in 2021    Bet you'll never guess when Gus joined the team .................
    • I told all the Piece haters that he will have a breakout year. Pierce is a keeper for sure.
