I'm not being that dude.

No one outside of this forum would describe Newsome as spectacular this season. Its not like I'm saying Luck sucks or something.

Here's the beauty of you.     No one INSIDE this forum has described Newsome as spectacular except one....

That person is you,  who used it twice in a mocking way to describe how everyone else was talking about Newsome.

Except no one else said that or implied that.

Only that he's good and has a bright future.

And the rest of the thread was you arguing with everyone and taking shots at others.   All over verbiage that they never said, but you did -- wrongly.

I don't know why you insist upon fighting with people week after week over nothing.    All you're doing is making it harder on yourself.     Who's going to take you seriously with posts like the ones you have in this thread.     You went out of your way to be argumentative with everyone.

And all they said was.....   Newsome is having a nice rookie year and a bright future.

Seriously,  you chose to argue over that?!?

I would have to think that if he sees increased playing time for the rest of the season that he could be in the running for DROY. Most of it is due to no one really having a standout rookie campaign defensively, but I would say the top 3 would have to be Barr, Mosely, and then Newsome.

Maybe you should read the thread before posting? People might take you seriously that way.

Earlier in the thread, Skelly said "plenty of people would" describe Newsome as spectacular this season.

As I said, before offering long-winded responses with no real point, try keeping up with the discussion.

No.   But nice try.

He took your argumentative bait.    You were the one who threw it out there unnecessarily.   Because NO ONE had said it.

Then you did.      And then his response was "Plenty of people would"....

This is just you being argumentative.

The latest example is I read each and every post to make sure no one else had used that word.

ONLY YOU DID.

So,  you're attempt to say "try keeping up with the thread" is just you in your normal CYA mode....   that's your Happy Place!

It's why you're in almost every major argument on the board.

You're just a disagreeable sort.

But thanks for playing.

The one who need trouble keeping up with the thread is the poster who has fueled the thread with his typical nonsense.

That would be............  you.

I threw what out there as bait?

I said that 4.5 sacks is not spectacular. Then a bunch of people said, "but but but what about Mathis'rookie season!"

I didn't say Newsome wasn't good, or that he doesn't have promise or anything of the sort.

I said 4.5 sacks isn't spectacular. That is hardly bait or being argumentative.

If someone said to you in real conversation that 4.5 sacks isn't spectacular, would you go on one of the long rants you post on this forum?

And your response to me pointing that out was to be even more arguable and more disagreeable.   Why am I not surprised?

How about this guy? A 5th round pick no one expected much out of at all, and he is really proving his worth as a pass rusher. 4.5 sacks so far this season, and he is only a rookie! Manusky needs this guy on the field in every passing situation, he can just get to the QB a lot better than any of our current QB's. This guy's ceiling is incredibly high.

He is also pretty decent at setting the edge against the run as well, great motor as well, overall a good pickup.

I am going to say this again, Newsome reminds me of a young Freeney when he first came into the league he had no moves but speed off of he edge.  this kid is looking the same way.  Newsome plays with a high motor and does not stop until he play is dead,  All i see is an upside to this young man.  Go Colts

4.5 sacks isn't spectacular by itself no, but when you start to realize he is the 3rd OLB and hasn't gotten consistent high number snap count games (though his snaps are increasing), then it becomes a little bit more impressive. Factor in he was a 5th round rookie and no one expected much from him this season at least, and its even more impressive.

He's also made other plays besides the sacks.  He's been a factor on special teams and had some pressures on passes where he didn't get a sack and if I am remembering correctly he either recovered or forced a fumble this season.  I know this just about everytime he's on the field you notice he's out there and normally because he's doing something well.  He's more than surpassed most expectations for him as a rookie and that is coming from someone who was high on him because I follow Ball State football since I went there.  I don't think he should be the defensive rookie or the year or anything but he's had a far better season than most expected out of him and has helped fill a big need for the Colts and that's as a pass rusher after Mathis went down.

I am not saying you are at all but I don't get why some are down on him.

EJ Gaines has been very good in man coverage this year. I don't think a CB has won it since Charles Woodson, but he's on pace to have similar stats, though one or two less interceptions.  The couple of times that I have watched him, he's been pretty good.  Even if he doesn't win it (and to me, Mack, Barr, and Mosley probably have a better shot), it's clear that he was extremely underevaluated during the scouting process.

You're implying that if he was good he'd have more playing time. With this coaching staff, that is not true. This team went 3/4 of the seasin watching Hakeem Nicks limp around the field before they played the clearly better option.

A la DHB last year. A la Donnie Avery the year before.

I got to watch him at BSU a few times. He is good at pass rushing but his run stopping wasn't to great. But that said if he can learn to be decent run stopper along with his pass rush he can be a good one for us. hopefully he hits the weight room this off season to get stronger so that he can power thru the line next season. but so far I think that he has done a pretty good job out there when he get the chance

That's the thing though. Almost EVERY time he gets a snap, you hear his name called. He's always either getting a sack or creating pressure. The one knock against him Sunday was when he failed to tackle McCoy and he was like the first person to him. He's almost like a reverse Khalil Mack, who has been great against the run but hasn't produced in terms of sacks.

to be honest I don't think the Colts drafted him to be a runner stopper. They have those guys in Walden and Werner. He was drafted to get after the QB. I know you aren't really complaining about him not being great at run stopping and you are just pointing it out based on his college days which is fine but I've several people in this thread talk about it like that's what he was expected to do. Pointing out he's not that great in run stopping is like pointing out Peyton Manning isn't grest scrambling with the football while true and something he may need to do time-to-time its not why he was drafted so you can live with him not being great in that area.

Newsome will be a pass rushing specialist and if he keeps producing like he has been so far as a rookie will be exactly what the Colts have been looking for since they let Freeney leave, another respectable pass rusher to put on the other side of Mathis on pass rushing downs so teams can't just sell out to block Mathis.

If Mathis can return to his normal self next year, I want to see what this thing looks like with Newsome and Mathis on the field at the same time.  I can just smell the sacks coming!  Not to mention any other pass rusher that we draft next year.

Absolutely love Newsome. I was saying after our game Sunday that he could get double digit sacks in a year or two and I'm sticking by it. His speed is incredible, and if he can learn a spin move of some sort, he could be a huge threat down the road for us. No excuse now to not get at least 50% of the defensive snaps vs the browns next game. I'd love to see a Johnny Manziel sack!

4.5 sacks isn't spectacular. Then again, he has only played for around 270-300 snaps ( I'm not sure if 270 was before or after the thirty he got in the Redskins game). Then again, if you extrapolate that to starting the whole season (not an exact science but you get the idea) he would have at least 14 sacks assuming about 1000 snaps. Like I said, extrapolation isn't exact, but it still shows how productive he has been in his time on the field.

Pretty much what everyone said, considering his playtime, hes been the most consistent passrusher.  Not only that, he has really good footwork and mechanics/form.  I love his dive tackles where he straight up leaps, reminds me of that pass rusher instinct weve seen with mathis, freeney.  the potential is DEFINITELY there for him to be a baller for us.  4.5 sacks IS impressive in my eyes, with the season not even over yet.  cant wait for him to grow and develop as a player.  i may sound like im getting carried away but mark my words this guy is gonna be awesome.
