Polian doesn't list Colts as a contender

LUCK will be much better due to 2 factors 1 the OL is going to be greatly improved, Luck LITERATELY WAS HAMMERED LAST YEAR & RAN FOR HIS LIFE  in Arians big play offense having to use his athlic ability to scramble & Making plays out of nothing & Pep Hamilton's offense is going to drastically improve Lucks percentage completion. That with our TE's and Hilton being in there second year. I am positive of his improvement saw it already in pre season. THE ONLY THING THAT WILL STOP LUCK FROM BEING A TOP 5 QB IN THIS LEAGUE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS IS INJURY! Thats how I see it. I love Peyton I wish we kept both, but it may have been a necessary evil letting him go.

I don't disagree with much of what you say. I think he will be a top five QB eventually but there are many here who think he already is that. He isn't and he isn't even close. I don't see that much improvement in the line. Those things take a while to gel and there is still a lot of turnover to deal with. I am not as high on our TEs as you are. I think Fleener may turn out to be a bust. Allen is merely OK. Pre season doesn't mean anything at all. There are lots of great pre season players who can't play when the season starts.

Oh, I don't think you find that anywhere. I think they are closer than most people would think but even I wouldn't say that. I said that he would be much improved. But, I think Luck will be better too but the record won't show it.

I see you like the Broncos. Comparing Luck to Weeden all makes sense now.

Luck is easily better than half the QB's in the league right now. He could go as high as 5-10 if you factor in his age and this is only his 2nd yr.. Weeden is already close to 30 yrs. old. By the time he reaches his potential( if he reaches it), he will be on the back end of his career.

I will give you that Luck is in the top half of the league in QBs right now but it is close and it is debatable. He is no where close to the top five or top ten and you don't get to factor in anything. You either are or you are not. Weeden can still be a really good NFL QB. His age doesn't bother me.

The QB ratings last year had them very close. I expect both to be better this year. What does my being a Denver fan to have to do with anything? Weeden played pretty well against the Colts last year. Perhaps good enough to win the game if everyone else on the team had played well.

I thought we agreed that you would stop that. It isn't true. If it was, I wouldn't be allowed to post. I am sure Nadine has checked me out. I haven't said a nasty word to you.

how do you know that? you just signed up a few days ago. how would you know he wasnt allowed to post here? You just busted yourself out... lmao

Pretty obvious this is the same guy.

not top 5 now but he will be, the line is better, not to Mention Luck is in his 2nd year, I Like Allan has a intermediate pass catcher he use's his body VERY WELL. Small LBers & Safeties have no chance, not a deep threat though. I Hear you on Flenner, lots of talent will he nut up & use it and not be so injury prone 2 me thats the question with him. Glad he got rid of that porn mustache he had though,he might not be tough enough? We Have A LOT of speed with Hilton & DHB on the field at the same time TE's should have a field day. I do see the improvement in Luck be prepared to be surprised I guess.

Yeah, he's making it really easy and has lost all credibility by denying it. Those of us who remember his shit-emoticon.gifare not fooled.

Man, I don't see the big deal here at all.  He doesn't see us as a contender.  A lot of people don't. They might be right. Most of these people probably know a lot more about football than I do.

My take on the Colts is this: They had a great, unexpected season last year.  For a lot of people, we just have too many question marks to put us into a "contender" category.  Personally, I'll be a little surprised and very disappointed if we don't make it to the playoffs. I do not think we will win the division this year, again.  I think the Texans have another year or two with the AFC South crown. They're a better team than us. We (may) have a better QB, but he's just going into his 2nd season.

Our defense is still very worrisome to me.  On paper we improved (I guess) but the lack of pass rush seriously concerns me. I know, I know: "We only allowed X amount of TD's with our first team defense in the preseason!" Well, one, it was Pre-Season.  Two, the only team our first team defense played a considerable amount of time against was the Browns... I'll say that again; the Browns.

If I'm an "expert" who isn't a Colts fan, I probably wouldn't be sold on them either.  It's not a "lack of research" or "just repeating what everyone else is saying" it's how they feel. A lot of them. Unlike us, they don't give all our questionable players the benefit of the doubt.

All that being said, I think the Colts go 10-6, and make it into the playoffs as the 5th seed.

1. Broncos (13-3)

2. Patriots (12-4)

3. Texans (11-5)

4. Bengals (10-6)

5. Colts (10-6)

6. Chiefs (9-7)

26 Andrew Luck, QB IND 339 627 54.1 4,374 6.98 70 23 18 41 76.5 273 27 Ryan Tannehill, QB MIA 282 484 58.3 3,294 6.81 80 12 13 35 76.1 206 28 Jake Locker, QB TEN 177 314 56.4 2,176 6.93 71 10 11 25 74.0 198 29 Brandon Weeden, QB CLE 297 517 57.4 3,385 6.55 71 14 17 28 72.6 226

Only four points apart in passing rating. I would say that is a pretty close comparison. Of course, Luck chucked it on just about every play.

One does not have to sign up to view these boards. I have done that for over a year before I signed up. I saw those things. I go to several other forums to see what they have to say but I don't sign in. I view what you are doing as some sort of censorship. If you read some of his posts, he doesn't sound like me at all. I am civil to everyone no matter what they say about me.

Talking numbers doesn't do it for me. Look at how clutch he was. Look at his 2 minute drills. His comebacks in 4th quarter. His record setting yards. His battling with a horrendous O-line, which also didn't help the running game. Add all this into the mix, and Luck is miles ahead.

You think Weeden had a great O-line? Well, we will see if he can keep doing those comebacks. I don't think so but if he does it again, I will have to rethink it, I guess.

He didn't just do it one time. He did it multiple times. So he has done it "again". You should rethink it already.

http://espn.go.com/blog/indianapolis-colts/post/_/id/281/polian-doesnt-list-colts-as-a-contender

INDIANAPOLIS – Bill Polian spent 15 years in the Indianapolis Colts' front office. But despite being with the franchise all that time, Polian didn’t cut them any slack when it came to revealing his list of playoff contenders

Polian, now an analyst at ESPN, listed five legitimate contenders, five teams with question marks and five teams that missed the playoffs last season but have a chance to make it this season.

Here’s his list:

Legitimate contenders

San Francisco

Seattle

Atlanta

New England

Cincinnati

Teams with question marks

Denver

Baltimore

Green Bay

Washington

Houston

Teams on the rise

Kansas City

Detroit

Carolina

New Orleans

Chicago

Isn't it funny how Indy isn't even listed? Can you say SOUR GRAPES? Please keep it civil...........

Until the Colts are able to run the ball & stop the run he's right to leave them out  .

My has this thread grown since I was here this morning.  All I can say Goodtimes     :loco:   :dunno: , are my reactions to the majority of your posts.  I don't remember OlBlu, but I do know all of the other posters who do know him and from what I can tell about what they said, he/you is a real treat.  I do want to thank you for the Luck/Weeden comparisons though, even on what could be my worst days I'll think back to that little nugget of wisdom and it will bring a huge smile to my face. rotflmao

Screw Polian and his football philosophies of building an unbalanced  team with just a few skilled offensive and defensive players, crappy offensive and defensive lines. Oh, how can I forget about the bend and don't break defensive philosophy of building a team around the hopes of playing with a lead.

Give me Grigs and his balanced approach of both sides of the ball, not to mention paying some attention to the linemen is very refreshing.

Edit: Manning having only one title is a friggin' joke! If the guy had a decent O-line that could run the ball and a serviceable Defense, Manning could be tripled up in titles! :rantoff:

ARE WE A TOP 12 TEAM. For my money off the top of my head the following teams are better, SF, SEA, GB, CHI, DAL,NYG, NO, ATL, DEN, CIN, PITT, BAL, NE, Thats 13, we are IMO lumped into MIA, STL, Minn, DET, IND, TENN, Maybe, ARI all these teams could replace the bottom of top 12, as optimistic has I am a 8-8 season could happen! I think we will be 10-6

Why are you giving Dallas, Chicago, and Pitt the benefit of the doubt?  We outperformed all 3 of them....easily.  You can make a case we are as good or better than NY as well.  We are easily top 12.

Chicago kicked the % out of us last year, Dallas, I think is a better all round team, Pitt is as well. All 3 have established QB's over a period of time. Like I said the next tier of teams could easily replace the lower tier teams. but to think we are a top 12 team 2 years removed from a 1 win season. I don't think so. We out preformed NO too but we are not as good. AS the season progress's I hope we are a top 12 team.

Broncos have question marks with their pass rush, their offensive line, and their rushing attack. But they also have the makings of greatness in them, as shown in tonight's game.

Football season is underway now. On a personal level I couldn't care less what Polian thinks or don't say. We have already had a thread about the lack of respect for the Colts and this pretty much falls into that category. For years Polian hated the media type people and now he has become one. Kind of ironic if you ask me.

As Polian's final drafts would show he lost several steps in talent evaluation.

All draft picks are 50/50. He had some that didn't work out so well in those years. He had lots of years where he did. This staff will have some mistakes too. Fleener will be one of them.

That is your opinion. Most of the experts do not agree with that. Yes, they could win the division if Houston had a big fall off and the Colts are as fortunate as they were last year all year long. I think they have a lot of players to try and work in and that usually doesn't go smoothly. I still see the offensive line as a problem and special teams could cost them a few games. It will be exciting to watch and I won't be disturbed if they have a lesser record but show continuous improvement that will carry into next year. I really expect them to be much improved next year. Then they may well challenge for that division title.

Actually a slew of experts have have high expectations of the Colts. There has been several articles posted on this forum the last few months. That doesn't even include the radio and television in which I've heard high expectations about the Colts from both players and analyst. John Clayton thinks they are a playoff caliber team but yet not quite a contender until next year. Now that guy is an expert.

I personally think they aren't contenders yet, however I still consider them a playoff caliber team. Now if they could still technically win 9-10 games and miss the playoffs.

I am glad you like Clayton. He thinks Luck is the 13th best QB in the NFL this year. I think he is about right. The Colts could win 9 but 10 would be a big surprise for me. I wonder how many that were picking the Colts over Denver still feel that way? When the Broncos play the Colts they will have some superstar defensive players back they did not have last night. I expect a blow-out win by Denver in that one. But Denver is going to have lots of blow-out winds as Peyton puts up one of the best year by a QB in NFL history. It isn't hard to see him being MVP again.
