Painter, he still has a ton to prove, but he is better than Collins. He has to watch out for those hits so he doesn't fumble, but he does seem to possess an understanding of the offense. With more practice reps this week hopefully he can give us a a chance.

That was a great throw to Garcon for that td, oh wait..........

I don't think Painter played great by any means, but he sure did look at heck of a lot faster so he gets the vote solely for that in my book. I'm proud of the way the Colts defense played, however the CB's could still use alot of work. Safeties looked kind of solid, Nevis was awesome, Angerer seemed good and obviously Dwight and Robert were pure destruction.

The Colts need a quality back-up QB. It's absolute nonsense that they have operated without one. The only way anyone will truly know if Curtis can meet that standard is to have him play. He'll rise to the challenge or he'll collapse under its weight. Either way the Colts will know where they stand and can take the appropriate actions going forward. It's time.

I think we should let Painter play, and give him complete support as he learns to be a #1 QB in the NFL. He's as good or better than Collins at this point, and that's without any first team practice since Collins showed up. If the fans can get behind him, as the team already appear to be, perhaps he will excel? Certainly he will get better. If Painter is to continue to be the 'backup' to Peyton, he has to be a valid choice as backup, otherwise why keep him on the roster. Personally, I think we should give the team to Painter, let Peyton and even Collins mentor him this year, let Peyton have the team back when he's healthy, but keep Painter on good terms and give him 1st team reps to keep him sharp.

If Collins can, use him. The experience he has cannot be measured and Painter still has a long way to go.

Collins has not shown anything all his experience yielded zero touchdowns when it mattered......nothing against collins cause he is new to the system but he should have always of been a back up.......

Like wayne had said, getting collins was a step back.... Im not saying the colts would have won those games if painter was in cause that would be pretty naive to say that BUT he would have given the colts a much better chance to win.

To answer my own question, I voted Painter. When we first signed Collins, I was all for it: veteran quarterback, more experience, etc. But when we had that Packers preseason game, I thought that they were going to let Curtis have a chance. But they're the coaches, so I trusted them.

At this point though, it's best for the team that we bring Curtis in. Give Collins more time to learn the play book, let the o-line gel some more, and maybe Collins can come back later once he knows what he's doing. He's trying, but he's just not cutting it.

So let's try it with Painter. He's definitely improving as he plays. Can't say the same for Collins as of now...

I too am off the Collins bandwagon. We tried, and it just didn't work. But I'll quote myself:

The debate between Painter and Collins is really 6 one way, half a dozen the other right now. Painter is going to throw more picks because his release is quicker. Collins isn't throwing picks because when he does throw he's usually 1) in the process of being hit leading to the ball to fly somewhere where there is no defensive player 2) being hurried so bad he throws an errant pass which flies somewhere where there are no defensive players, or 3) throwing a pass so inaccurate it flies somewhere where there are no players anywhere near.

We're pretty much doomed either way.

I agree, I think Curtis Painter looked a lot more poised and confident. He also knows the system better than Collins, let the guy play. By the way T.Polamalu was all over the dayum field, I'm not sure why the colts didn't check coverages and see where T.P was at.

I am a new convert. I supported Collins but I cannot continue to allow my conventional wisdom to back the hack. That snails-pace throwing motion seemed to betray any sense of timing.

Collins is like an old gun with no rounds left.

Painter is a new gun that no one has bothered to straighten the iron sights on.

(Manning being the laser-rocket of course)

Get them sights straightened out and lets roll forward with the kid.

Such a shame we lost. 0-3 means we aren't making the playoffs unless we buck historical probability.

I feel like we won tonight. Never felt this way after a loss.

Thank you Colts defense for giving us, the fans, a reason to watch, cheer and shut up the doom-n-gloom false prophets.

you do know it was his first pass with the actual starters and without reps and practice i kinda expected it. but if hes starting next weekend and give him all the reps and practice i think he will be good. that TD drive he led was very manning like and i think it caught the steelers D off guard.

Collins is no longer useful. General consensus was he was brought in as a possible band aid to maybe steal a few wins in hopes that Manning came back, and we might sneak into the playoffs. That window is closed. Collins might get marginally better as the season goes, but at the end of the year, we would still have the same back up problems. Let Painter learn in what is basically a no pressure environment. Either he matures into a reasonable second option, or he fails. Least then next season we will know how to address the issue.

^ good point

how come no one is criticizing Painter's fumble? If he does this every game we will lose those games

i will address his fumble its easy first pass of a game. everyone else had reps and practice with their fellow starters and they were already warmed up. painter came in after having no practice and no rep at all for well years with the starters so he really had no idea what to expect. after the fumble you could tell he was disgusted at himself and not only did he correct it but he redeamed himself by leading a drive down the field for a TD. the true test is after all the practice and reps with the starters this week and starting against tampa and if he leads the team to a win then we can really know what we actually have. is that good for you on addressing painters fumble?

Well depending on Collins health it might not matter. Look for Hartline to be signed from the PS this week or Orvlosky brought back.

Painter is hit and miss, I put in another thread it's good Painter and bad Painter and it changes from drive to drive. With that said the TD drive was about as smooth as I have seen the offense run since Manning has been out. Still though we are going to see a lot of short hops, turnovers, and over throws with Painter. Still based on what we have seen from Collins that is what we are getting anyways except that Painter has shown he can move it a little bit. Maybe he is the answer. Okay well the real answer is sitting in the coach's box but maybe Painter is the guy to hold the fort down till 18 is healthy.

why doesn't a backup practice?

When Manning is healthy Manning takes all the reps because that's what Manning likes to do to feel comfortable for a game.

For now I would say it's to get Collins as used to the offense as they can in a short time and the only way to do that is to give him reps to try to get things down like timing and what not.

Not saying I agree with those reasons but I am just answering your question as to why the Colts do it that way.
