WR question

say we don't add any big impact receivers, and we leave it how it is, who would start? Obviously Reggie Wayne will start, but who will start opposite him? T.Y. Hilton? I think Hilton is built perfectly for the slot, so maybe LaVon Brazill could start opposite him? I hear Brazill has a high upside so he could be an option, how would you do it?

familiar with pep's offense

I haven't seen much of either guys yet, but I feel that Whalen will be almost like Collie and could break out in seasons to come, and since he's familiar with Pep it's a plus. Brazill I'm not sure about, but he has potential.

just curious why does everyone put Whalen ahead of Brazill?

15 games played 11 receptions to show for it probably have alot to do with it in 2012, Whalen had 12 catches in 2 preseason, yeah I know people will be quick to dismiss it because of preseason but fact of the matter is Brazill could not even match what Whalen did in 2 games when Brazill played in 15, Griff has a knack for getting open and Brazill just dont consistently

ok, no offense, but I really don't care what Whalen did in the pre-season, pre-seaon means absolutely nothing, and 11 catches for 186 yards and a TD in 15 games for a receiver who played no more than 10 snaps per game, sometimes not even 5, is pretty darn good, do not use pre-season production as an indicator of how good a player will be, because it is a really bad way to tell if a player is good or not

I'm gonna do something a little different

1. Reggie Wayne

2. Jeremy Kelly (Height makes sense to put him outside

3. TY Hilton (always have your Burner in Slot as it's more room to run)

4. Griff Whalen/LaVon Brazill (Giving the edge to Whalen simply because his familiarity with the new offense)

fact still remains he outperformed what Brazill managed to do all season long, I dont care who wins the job, I give the edge to Whalen do to his familiarity with the system, I'd ideally like to have a tall wr that can go over the middle and make the tough catch in traffic

I think we should give Lavon Brazill more playing time this season, last season he did not get too many chances to prove himself.  But with Donnie Avery gone, he is likely moved up to the number 3 position.  Although Whalen understands the offensive system better, I still think that Lavon Brazill will be in front of Whalen.  And if he does not play well, we can always adjust the wide receiver line up.

victor cruz was undrafted.

And if Giants had gone into the season planning to start him, it would have been baffling. Instead, he found his way in the team because of injuries and it worked out. What from Griff Whalen have you seen to compare him to Victor Cruz?

Both have good QB's that can get them the ball, both have a knack for getting open and both have showed good hands, Now the comparison stops there, Whalen is not as polished as Cruz and will never have the speed but he is a guy that can get underneath and get you a first down to move the chains, The biggest difference in the two besides speed is this......One has been given the chance and the other got injured right in the middle of one but he looked good, I dont care if it was against a bunch of 3rd stringers, he looked good

Keep in mind that Pagano and the rest of the coaches seen something in Whalen,  Most WRs coming into the NFL takes a year or two before they become a force.

You can't just say that though. "I don't care if it was a bunch of third stringers" - well, um, you should, because that makes a huge difference.

Pretty sure preseason is the only way to judge a player on his talent. Because its the only real game they might possibly be in. And yeah, it was 3rd stringers which does have an effect on getting open easier. But either way. Finding a good WR isn't hard in today's league anymore. Not worried about our WR situation.

Sure it makes a huge difference but Im not just dismissing him off as "well he only did it against 3rd stringers" because thats how many start, ya have to get on the field somehow, it would be interesting to see if he can continue it against 1st string competition, I think he can though.

Im pretty baffled about the whole love affair with Whalen. He played well in pre-season...but so what.

Brazill on the other hand made some great plays for us when it actually mattered, and I really like his ability to adjust to the ball and make difficult catches. Im looking forward to seeing his progress next year.

In my perfect world we'll sign Ramses Barden and see what he can do as our no.2. Otherwise, i'll gladly take a WR at 24 if hes BPA. Hunter has a pretty attractive skillset, and i've always liked Woods.

People love white slot receiver ears lol. Seriously though. Brazill > Whalen

There have been tons of guys who have looked better than Whalen in pre-season. He looked solid, sure, but not astonishing. Meanwhile, LaVon Brazill has actually impressed in the regular season, in a very limited role, but he made some impressive plays. Certainly shown more than Whalen has, mainly because Brazill was actually doing it against trained defenders rather than quick guys off the streets.

At any rate, I don't feel at all comfortable with our receiver depth.

Now that we have made it clear that we're not bringing back Avery,  I would be shocked if we didn't do one of two things.

Either...

A)  sign another FA wide receiver.

or...

B)  draft a wide receiver.

I believe one of those two things will happen.

I agree.  I would be surprised if another WR isn't added to the roster before training camp or even OTAs

1.Wayne

2.Hilton

3.Whalen

is there any big time WRs coming out of next years draft that you kno of? me personally i would pass on a WR in the first couple rounds and get one late this year and then use next years first on a WR. none of them this year really excite me at all.

what if the colts sign Brandon Lloyd the pats just released him :Yikes:

Then it's just like we never let Avery go. Something must be wrong if you get cut from the WR happy Patriots.

I'd pass on Lloyd. I want our younger players to at least get a legit chance

Lloyd has problems, but none of them are his hands.    He's got fantastic hands.   Perhaps even top-10 hands.   Seriously.

But,  he's typically a one and done guy with most teams.   Sometimes, two years and out.

But he's been with SF, Denver, St. Louis and NE and I may even be missing a team or two.   All them wanted him to be an important part of their offense.

I think it's more personality than anything else.   But he wears out his welcome incredibly fast.

So,  could the Colts use his raw talent?    You bet.    Do we want him in our locker-room??    Not on your life!

Just my view.....
