Gus Bradley has to go. He is spotting the team free points with the way he plays the secondary. His defense also seems to struggle with check downs for whatever reason. He’s holding the team back. We won’t win 9 games with a healthy AR next season if he’s still the DC.

Whoa there ponyboy. The secondary today was Brents, Jones, Clemons, Cross, and Harrison. Way too much inexperience to do anything else then play a soft zone.

This win belongs to Shane.

We still had our defects.  We couldn't put pressure on the QB.  We still couldn't tackle well.  We still had lapses in coverage.  We still had issues getting separation.  And Minshew... was Minshew.

We didn't have the better players today.  But we still managed to win.

Shane called great plays that got us points.  Shane made good game management decisions that kept us two scores ahead -- just out of reach.  Shane managed the clock well.

This win belongs to Shane.

He called a terrible game imo. To each his own.

As clean as both teams played, the badly botched block punt attempt/personal foul probably kept the game closer than it should have been. Oh well, the Raiders had played very well the past couple weeks so any win over them is a good one. Minshew is limited but we would have a losing record with most backup qb’s.

Who are the top flight QBs? Serious question. Lamar Jackson may win the MVP and the Colts beat the Ravens with Lamar Jackson.

Stroud will be the best QB we’ve faces since Lamar (or that girl who plays for Jacksonville).  Hope Kenny is back.

Also have to give them a ton of credit.  They were considered the worst team in the league by the talking heads at the start of the season.

that is what a good gm can do , nick caserio turned that team from the bottom to competing for the win division in just two seasons

This is simply wrong.  They beat the probable league MVP and best team in their conference if not the league on the road with a backup QB.  They also beat the probable rookie of the year on the road with a backup QB playing 3/4 of the game and they will have to do it one more time if they want to make the playoffs.

I think just the opposite...Tannehill and others will be playing for their future..Vrabel is a good coach.

titans had a bad gm who let their elite players go to other teams, imo talent level stops and starts with the gm

Just got back from the casino. From what I saw over there, the protection was solid on Maxx Crosby. The offense was well-balanced and Taylor looked good. Even though Pittman wasn't great on offense, it opened up room for Pierce and Downs to make a couple plays. The Raiders offense threw on us and we couldn't cover Adams, but I'm happy with the win overall.

Baltimore was beginning of the season and totally different team now. Stroud, the same.  If u think this is a legit recird, then good on u.

They clinched  playoff birth in what was supposed to be a down year.

Serms Thomas got benched at safety quite a bit for Harrison. Will know more when I see snap counts.

Yep, and Puka had yet another 100 yard game.

Yes, it is a legit record. Teams can only play and beat whoever is on their schedule.

I do because I am not trying to spin everything to be negative like you do.  Fact of the matter is you said they played no top end QBs this year and you were wrong, they played at least two and beat both of them on the road even if doesn’t suit your agenda.

I wouldn’t say terrible, but I would like to see changes to get the running game going. That is where all the money has been spent, or are the colts admitting they made major mistakes with those contracts.

nobody was complaining when blocked punts won a game for the colts. How quick fans forget.

I see a lot of 2nd and 3rd string qb’s playing well, a lot of them better than gm! I think this is due to most college teams going to passing offenses and producing qb’s and wr’s  that are able to step in.

The running games is not effective due to his insistence on running between the tackles most of time.  Taylor and the other running back were very effective running outside but we very rarely went there.  It has nothing to do with what we’re paying running backs.  It’s their utilization.  That’s on Shane.  Too predictable imo.

Good god, are you related to Grigson?? Ballard hater extraordinaire! Come out to play only when the glass is half empty! My champagne glass is full baby! Happy New Year. Go Colt’s, we have exceeded expectations by a mile. This year has proven the old Adage, Any Given Sunday!! Weak schedule, 9-7, take that to the Bank.

Yet Shane started running outside in the second half today.  Does he get no credit for that?

Of course but he went away from it.  Didn’t do it enough when it was working imo.  Taylor’s touchdown was a run to the outside I believe.

In his post game press conference Steichen said there were no new injuries to report.  Thank you very much.

Wait until tomorrow when EJ Speed winds up in protocol...

I'm no Bradley fan and I'll always have issues with how he calls the defense. I thought his gameplan today was kind of refreshing. Maybe his blitzes looked more effective because the QB is a rookie and was caught off guard, but he did a better job of mixing things up today.

Compared to last week's gameplan, when Bradley and Steichen confirmed that they played it conservative to protect the secondary. This week, we had two additional starters out, yet the gameplan was more aggressive from the beginning. Days like today make me scratch my head, because if Bradley was this versatile every week -- and let's be clear, he was only about 20% more versatile today than he usually is, it's not like he's suddenly Dick LeBeau -- I'd be less concerned with him being the DC.

That said, some of the coverages were annoying. It seemed like the Raiders had an open receiver right in the middle of the field on every passing down. I'd rather clamp down the middle and make the QB try a more difficult throw to the outside. And we absolutely have to tackle better.

Doesn't mean he won't be in protocol tomorrow. I'm mostly joking, but it wouldn't surprise me.

This team was expected to win 6 games this year. They just got their ninth win today, and are now knocking on the door to the playoffs.

Does any of this bring you any pleasure or joy?

He went back to in the third and fourth quarters and used it to pretty much run out the clock.

Nope just telling us how things that the rest of us view as good really aren’t that good.  There is a word for posters like that…

I’d bet he plays.  They have a week to get him right.  Not uncommon for olineman who are hurt and play to really feel it right after the game.

For him it doesn't, sad really. I have to be honest, been a fan since 1984 and this season ranks way up there as one of my favorites.

1. 2006 = because we won the SB and beat the best = Tom and BB to get to the SB. Peyton sealed his legacy with the comeback win vs the Pats. Then he closed by beating the Bears where many fans here in Indy are Bears fans.

2. 1995 = because nobody expected us to do anything that season, and we went to the AFC Title Game as a WildCard with Harbaugh. The win at KC in the Divisional Round (1995) was priceless.

3. 2012 = went from 2-14 to 11-5 and a Playoff appearance with Andrew Luck and his comebacks. Made the playoffs and not 1 person on ESPN and NFL Network had us winning more than 5 games before the season.

4. This season (2023) is in the running because, CBS Sports radio, ESPN, NFL Network, our local media, and most of the posters in here had us winning 3 or 4 games before the season. Here we are 9-7, blood and guts in with the best of them. How anyone can't enjoy that, they live a sad life, JMO. Our before season odds of making the playoffs this season were like 5%. Some outlets had us rated at #32 = worst team in team in the league.

I don’t doubt it.  If the Colts had to play tomorrow I’d bet he wouldn’t play but give him a week of treatment and the fact the season is on the line I’d bet he does everything to be out there.

    • Uuuugh.     I think it would’ve been better if I had preached a healthy dose of patience and NOT patients.
    • Feel the need to clarify something.   The writer of the article, Bob McGinn, is one of the top-10 football writers there is.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) McGinn does NOT have an opinion on Mitchell.  It’s the unnamed scouts who have the negative opinions.  McGinn is quoting them which is his job.  He is supposed to do that.     Ballard even acknowledged that in his own way.  He literally said “put your name on it!”   Well, McGinn’s name IS on it.  it’s his column.   But it’s the scouts who are saying things anonymously.   If there’s an issue, (if) it’s with them, not McGinn.
    • And when/if a team signs one of those safeties they’ll be made to look like a genius while Ballard is called a fool.    I think what’s more likely is that an injury will inevitably happen and a team will bring in an available free agent. That could be training camp. That could early in the season. You just never know.
    • But if the Colts sign someone next week or the week after then it really doesn’t matter.    I would’ve preferred we sign some two weeks ago.   Get them familiar with the DC and position coach.   But once we didn’t then it really doesn’t matter when.  It just matters that we do it before camp opens.  At least to me.    And the fact no one else is signing these top FA safeties tells me the market just isn’t there yet.   I’m preaching a healthy dose of patients.
    • How about getting a proven commodity in the FA market? I know that assumes the player wants to be here, but money talks and the Colts have some. This D needs a solid center fielder. Simmons fits that role perfectly. If he’s gettable, here’s to Ballard pulling the trigger, even if it’s a slight overpay. The team CANNOT leave this crucial position to players who have consistently underperformed in the past (Cross and Thomas).
