No. Collecting a bunch of tackles isn’t impacting. Someone else can step in and do the same.

Depends on where the tackles take place.

Geathers is actually pretty good in run support but is a bit lacking in coverage.

We could do better but we could do worse as well.

Some cool stuff here.

Brad wells is a child with rocks for brains. How does re-signing Geathers effect hooker? They play different positions. I swear I have no clue how he has a job. Half the people on this forum are more

I think ballard will most likely wait until after the draft to see what holes we need to fill before signing anyone else. I am going to guess that Geathers is signed.

After the draft?    Not likely.

He’ll be signing guys next week and the week after.   He did last year.   It worked well.

He will also also sign a few after the draft.   He did that as well.   But the majority will be done in March.   I promise.

Did you see the video of him visiting Carr at his house. They looked liked best buds. It was kind of odd with the bad reputation he has going around.

I honestly think the whole thing was just a stunt created by his agent. Drew is a very bombastic individual. Im surprised Hilton has the same agent.

It's going to be real awkward if they end up drafting Kyler Murray.

The next person after him was kenny moore. You want your slot corner be third on the team in tackles? You just don't get the importance of Geathers on this defense. You care more about his injuries then his play

Kenny Moore also sacks, pass breakups, INT,  TFL and FF's. Making an IMPACT is more than just tackles.

Kenny blitzed from the slot. The colts ran that play the majority of the time on third down. Just because Geathers isn't making the splash plays like moore or Leonard doesn't mean he doesnt have an impact on this defense. Him and walker don't get the respect they deserve. Even those who dont get what Hooker's role is on the defense dont give him his respect.

I don't hate Geathers, in fact I think he's pretty decent, but if we're calling him an impact player then we're using that term very loosely.

The truth with Geathers is pretty much what’s you said. Even when he is healthy, he’s only average. He’s overrated by some here because he’s still living off of accolades and plays from his rookie season. That’s the last time he was an “impact” player.

No one is saying hes Leonard, but for you guys to say he hasn't had an impact on this defense is laughable

Every decent player has an impact on their team. I just think the term impact player means more, as confusing as that sounds. I think of an impact player like Luck, Leonard, TY Hilton, and Nelson. A guy who can change a game with one play or a guy who stands out well above the rest.

That is not what an impact player is imo. Is the team worse if said player is not on the field? That is an impact player. Luck, hilton, leonard are playing like HOFers. You can't compare him to them

This year? He has? His entire career of the games he’s actually played? He’s been adequate. Impact players make game changing plays. Hilton, Leonard, Luck, Autry, Ebron, etc...Those ate impact players.

Anthony Walker, Clayton Geathers, Quincy Wilson, Farley, etc...are adequate players. They bring steady plays but when they’re gone you’re not missing out on any game changing production.

So Odum and mitchell did a better job then Geathers?

Yep. The 4th down stop against Murray and the Titan a few years ago made him a cult hero (sort of like Vick Balllard's corkscrew TD against TEN in OT).

I think he is definitely overrated as the starting SS. That is a position that the Colts could stand to upgrade. And that is before you factor in the injuries...which make him unreliable.

Having Geathers as depth would be nice...I just don't like the idea of committing to him as the starting SS.

Mitchell was more impactful in the 1st game he started. He ended up winning AFC defensive player of the week for 7 tackles, a PD, a INT, and a FF. It terms of impact it was more impactful than any game Geathers had this season. Check the game logs and you’ll see Geathers just racks up tackles. He doesn’t create turnovers or create negative plays in general.

Because thats not his role. The colts use him as a dime linebacker

I don't want to give up a pic for him but if they release him I would rather have him than Ajaiy.

Yes to this. A RB that is a actually a threat in the passing game. And he's actually been pretty productive running the ball over the past three years. I never really understood his usage in CLE. He's definitely a playmaker in the passing game.

I would prefer he get released. But a conditional 6th/7th round pick wouldn't be bad. Colts would only be taking on his base salary + roster and work bonuses...which would mean very reasonable cap hits of $2.3M next season and $4.1 the following season. Doubt they would keep him much longer than that.

And that’s fine. Some of that is because of his limitations in coverage. But even as a dime linebacker, he doesn’t make any game changing plays. Geathers is an adequate player.

There is really no diff between him and Hynes

Sure there is. About 2.5 yard/catch and 1 yard/carry.

Johnson is better at making people miss and picking up chunk yardage in the passing game. And he's actually a threat to run the ball (well...out of light fronts and shotgun). I really don't care to see Hines running the ball anymore.

So getting us in the top 10 in run defense, that had nothing to do with Geathers?

You wanna give up on hines after one season? He had 800 total yards and 4 tds

No I whole heartedly Agree Duke is the better player, but they fit the same role so I dont see Ballard looking there

    • Almost XXX. Clearly Obscene.   Hopefully we get that from him here!
    • First it was trading Kenny Moore, then signing 20 players in FA, then paying half of the cap to the OL, and now sending Kelly for #5 AND drafting "Charles Darrisaw"......     You're out of your mind at this point
    • Pat Mcafee linked him to Tampa on his show with a cool Bruce Arians draft story.... Thinking Tampa looks like a good fit if they can afford him.
    • He should sign with the Texans... Heck he already owns the stadium!   Oh, that's right, they don't have a QB to throw the ball to him.
    • I realize that under the current conditions, it's not easy to talk about a lot of things, but there are so many topics that are open for discussion. You had a whole season that just finished you can ask about. Superman mentioned a lot of them already - player evaluation, areas for improvement, things he's happy with on the current roster and wants to keep for next season... just in general questions about the state of the roster. I'd love to hear about tendencies he's seen throughout the league that have made an impression on him, I'd love to hear what he thinks separates our current roster from the best teams in the league, they are talking about moving Q to LT... I'd love to hear what they consider important traits and skills for that position and whether Q has those, etc. and this is without even going into anything advanced Xs and Os... Also, notice that it's not my job to come up with questions... it's THEIRS. It's what they are at least partially being paid for(I'm just saying a ton of the questions they go for are incredibly banal and boring). But instead here's what we got:   -17 questions and among them: --- how important is getting the QB position right? yes, this was an actual question. You can spot the uninspiring quote begging questions from a mile away - in general they are in the form of "how important is..." or "how much..." and the answer cannot be anything but "very important" or "very much" and from then on you rely on your interviewee to carry the water for you and get you the quote you need. It's questions you know the answer to, but you will ask anyway just so you can have the quote from the HC, GM, player, etc. --- how important is a QB's confidence for playing the game? Can you imagine an answer other than - very important. --- how important was retaining Matt Eberflus for continuity? ...  --- "How much do you enjoy coming up with a creative way... do you embrace the challenge of having your system fit the QB you have?"(this is the 3d question on this topic... notice I didn't include the first 2 here, because there is some value to understanding Frank's view on how you plan the offense based on your QB's skillset. But come on... I'm almost certain this reporter is writing a story about the "challenges" of it and didn't quite get the quote he needed so... lets go back to it and ask the same question in 3d different way...  --- "How much have you self-evaluated about 4th down decisions"  --- "How important was your previous relationship with Philip Rivers and his knowledge of the offense in terms of getting things rolling more quickly and how much benefit is that for any QB coming into a new situation." I almost feel bad for including this one, because it's kind of a creative cheeky way to ask about Wentz without asking about Wentz... BUT... notice.... it's the exact same quote begging, uninspired question, whether it's about Rivers or Wentz... it doesn't matter if they were allowed to mention Wentz in this situation. The question is the same garbage that you already know the answer to... in fact... you probably have asked the exact same quesiton last year about Rivers.    Frank is a freaking trooper for going through with this, BTW. He is giving thoughtful answers and expounding on even the most eyeroll inducing questions. This media market is lucky to have him(and Ballard) to do their job for them, but I can't help but feel like those press-conferences and interviews are being wasted on such dull and unremarkable interviewers.    So between 35-40% is what I would call "quote begging" questions that don't add much of anything and don't serve much of any purpose but to be a filler to a boring story, questions you(and everybody else) know the answer to but ask anyway just so you can put the quote in a story.    Now, I probably wasn't fair in painting the entire group with this broad of a brush, because some of them actually seem to do good job and I will retract that broad of a generalization on my part. For example, both Joel Erickson and Kevin Bowen I thought asked reasonable questions in this one. Holder too...   I mean... I don't know if I overestimate my opinion. I don't even know what that means. It's MY opinion after all... if I didn't hold it in high regard, I wouldn't hold it. I realize I might be wrong on some things, though. I'm very much welcoming of other opinions that might change mine. Very few if any of my opinions are set in stone.    I live in Bulgaria. I've been following different sports teams throughout my life in my home country, in the US(NBA, NFL), In Europe - Spanish La Liga(soccer), British Premier League(soccer), German Bundesliga(soccer), Champions league(soccer), Euroleague(basketball), etc.   YES! If they can't talk about Wentz, why waste 6-7 questions on it instead of going for things that are available for you to talk about. You just had a whole season full of football to talk about. You are in a period that is dedicated for improving the roster. Ask him about what needs to be improved. Ask him about what he loved from the team last year and what he wants to keep going forward. They've been talking about Q transitioning to LT potentially. Why not ask him what are the traits and skills required from that position that are different than LG? Does Q possess those? And if not yet, what's the things he will need to work on to make the transition? Ask him broad questions about the league, new tendencies he's seen, etc... There is so much you can ask about without going into "how important is continuity" or "how important is confidence for the QB"... questions you've heard the answer to a million times by a million people and it's never "confidence is overrated... the more shaken the QB is the better"....
