I was thinking the exact same thing.  I swear, I've been on nfl.com looking at combine or scouting reports and its' like every time I open up the window it's another trade or mega deal or something crazy.

The Browns have acquired wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Dolphins, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). Miami will receive a 2018 pick and a 2019 pick in the trade. 

 

No mention of which pick for 2018 draft yet.  Sure it's not #1 or #4, so this doesn't change a lot for us.

Landry has a big cap hit.  The draft picks given up will be surprisingly low to many.

According to Rapoport, it's because Cleveland has the money to redo his deal. Why on Earth he'd want to go to the Browns, I have no idea.

He has no choice. He was traded to the Browns.

He has a choice.   The Browns want him to TE-do his contract.    If he wanted to he could refuse to do that.   He has leverage if he wants to use it.

 

But...   Cleveland will likely give him a new 5-year deal with a big signing bonus.   Landry is going for the money.   Signing bonus plus guarantees.  

 

Just glad it's not the Colts....

It's his choice to sign a new contract but not the trade. If the Dolphins wanted to trade him to the Browns there was nothing he could do to stop it.

He could've just refused to sign the tag. That wouldn't have allowed Miami to trade him. Miami is in huge cap crunch too, so they might have had to rescind the tag.

Miami can trade any player on their roster if they want to. Even if he didn't sign the tag they could still trade him if they found someone to trade with.

Correct.

 

I was only saying he could make the deal financially uncomfortable for Cleveland.  Painful for the Browns.

 

This deal only got done because Landry agreed to re-work the contract.  It doesn't happen without his cooperation.

 

But yes...  if Cleveland was willing to do the deal without Landry's cooperation, he couldn't stop it.

With that said if the Browns do get a decent QB they have a couple of pretty good receivers for sure.

Technically, he's not on their roster because he's not under contract. This has come up in the past, players who have received a tag but haven't signed it, can't be traded.

Gordon, Landry, Coleman, Johnson. Add Barkley and a decent QB and they'll have a good offense.
