It's hard to read this and are you sure the #'s are right? Ryan Diem took a paycut so I doubt he is making $5 or $6 million dollars a year.

That is the list I got from the web. Sorry about how hard it is to read, tried to adjust and it wouldn't let me.

I would add Freeney to the overpaid list. I thought he was overpaid back when he was given the new contract and he was an every down DE then but was a major liability against the run. Now, while he has improved somewhat against the run, he's still taken out quite a bit on known run downs so he's effectively become a situational pass rusher. The kind of money he's being paid should be given to an every down DE that is effective both against the pass and run...imo.

I am bad 11 million a yr for Freeney? He is good but not that good.

It's so high this year and next because the Colts back loaded the contract...typical Polian move. Freeney is Freeney...he's been one of the best in the business for us over the last decade so I have a hard time saying he's over payed, but that is a lot of coin for the amount of production we have been getting out of him so far this season.

diem was supposed to make 5.4 million before he was cut, i believe he is 2.3 million now. wayne is 5.9 and 6.2 million. clark is 7.7

clarks is WAY over payed, and i have said this since he signed his contract. i really like freeney, but he is making too much money. i didn't like the brackett contract ether. his contract hurts the colts the next 3 years, that's when he is really over priced. hughes is way over payed, but that's the crap shoot you take with first round picks. bad 2nd contract decisions are all on the team management. freeney is in mannings salary cap area next year, and that has to be addressed.

Before anybody starts picking off names of people making too much money............

lets first make a list of the people at your own company or job and see how much they make compared to you.......and pick that list apart first.........ah.....then its not so easy......you mean you are honestly worth what your getting paid now......or is your pay as high as it is because you've been doing a great job for many years.......????....or you signed a contract that pays you the big bucks no matter what....

Leave the poor players and their salaries alone........they work as hard if not harder than any one of us for their money.

RW is paid just about right as a starting WR with his skills. Freeney is and was overpaid and Dallas is not playing up to his contract either. Gonzo and hughes will be well overpaid as well with what they are giving us. Cant cut Freeney or Dallas though at this point. RW is going to have to understand his value on the market at his age next season and Freeney may have to redo his contract as well.

You don't pay Freeney for his numbers, or the downs he plays. You pay him because of his impact, which is tremendous. He sets the table for the defense.

when freeney signed the contract he was a every down de. for whatever reason, he isn't now. can you give me a list of the part time players that are payed the top salary at their position.

that's fine to pay him more than you would a typical situational pass rusher because he is the best situational pass rusher in the league. But there's a difference in paying him for what he does + some on top of that because he's the best at it and making him the highest paid defensive player in the league (which to my recollection he was at the time he signed the new contract). Just my opinion.

He isn't an every down DE anymore because, though he has improved, he's still usually a liability against the run. Anderson and Brayton were brought in to play on running downs. That's why both Freeney and Mathis are getting less playing time than in years past.

What jumps out is Manning and Freeney at 16 mil cap.

Freeney is just too much.

Then there's quite a few in the 4+ m cap and a bunch around 600k.

Obviously lopsided which has been what folks have been saying all along.

No team has had bigger haves/have nots salary disparity than the Colts over recent years. Part of the philosophical problems (but in no derogation to holding roster spots for non-contributors and current poor coaching, etc). Evidence is now on the field for all with no willingness or ability to see. Sanders paid more than Polamalu at the time; Freeney biggest defensive contract at the time; Manning highest paid player at the time; undeserved elite money to Hayden - are some examples of collective influence on how the current team was formed. That's reality regardless of what several prominent blowhards fans on this board would have folks believe.

The past offseason was an indication some of these old ways might become history though. Those trends have been encouraging even in the midst old mistakes being exacerbated by an 0-7 start. Looking forward to the future....

2011 Salary Cap #

Dwight Freeney DE $11,420,000 $16,420,000 - as said before, he was worth this contract in the past when he was an every down DE, but now he is a liability against the run, he needs to shave that down.

Ryan Diem T $5,400,000 $6,257,142 - production has gone down

Dallas Clark TE $4,200,000 $6,990,000 - i think this year shows Peyton inflated his talents. If he is not worth this w/o Peyton, then he shouldn't be paid like this. Another player shouldn't determine another player's salary

Kerry Collins QB $4,000,000 $4,000,000 - the obvious

Gary Brackett LB $2,000,000 $4,400,000 - injuries have made him expendable.

Eric Foster DT $1,200,000 $1,200,000 - one dimensional, production sucks

Anthony Gonzalez WR $1,100,000 $1,760,000 - injuries have made him expendable

Justin Snow TE $875,000 $875,000 - who?

Donald Brown RB $635,000 $1,155,000 - too much for a 3rd string running back

Jacob Lacey CB $480,000 $813,333 - no way he should be getting paid more than Powers, that makes him overpaid automatically!

Jerry Hughes DE $405,000 $2,140,000 - kind of high for such a low pick. That 2 million is gonna hurt us.

People really hate Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes. No question they aren't performing the way you would expect two first round picks to perform, but they aren't overpaid. A third year running back making $635k is par for the course.

And Hughes making $405k base, plus incentives, is nothing. These are minimum level contracts. I can't imagine what legitimate complaint could come from either of these two contracts.

Well done. Wasted picks but they were signed with cautious money.
