Freeney

I wouldn't say I like the idea of him taking reps away from the guys we will be looking to play with next year, but I would be happy for him to do the ceremonial deal or even come in, similar to what Mathis was doing, and working with the young guys.

Although Freeney might think he has more in the tank and want another shot at playing.

He's too old just retire

I wasn't saying to sign him to play, sign him like we have done with others like Jeff Saturday for a couple hours, long enough for him to retire a Colt.

The Colts were not to eager to resign him. I'm sure he felt betrayed to some degree so therefore the somewhat ill feelings for the Colts.

Well, Irsay paid him $14 or $15 mil. for him to not be used in a scheme he didn't fit his last year, in 2012, just like he paid Peyton $23 mil. in 2011 to be on the bench. So Freeney should have understood it was a business like anything else.

No,   wild speculation that he has ill will toward the team makes the most sense

The Colts moved on from him because Mathis had already out played him for a couple of years.

Freeney was misused as a linebacker.  He is a rush end and that is how he should been used. In that roll, look at how he STILL, last year and this, is able to still bring rushing impact to the table.  Sure he’s been just a roll player for awhile now, but good DCs know how to use roll players effectively.

You act like he was an all star or something. He had 18 sacks in 5 years. And now 5 teams in 5 years.

Not an all star anymore of course, but I believe he still gets a pretty good amount of pressures. Colts probably could've used him for 3rd downs.

Colts play a 3-4, not a 4-3 and paying him the veteran league minimum was not worth it. Just because he is well liked does not mean he should have been signed.

Seems like he would be as-good-as if not better (even at his ripe age of 37) than what we have now, particularly on 3rd downs like you say.

My opinion doesn't count, but I think for now we have what we have and they are beginning to play together more consistently.  With a few more players and playmakers added next year we should be pretty stable on defense... that is, barring injuries of course.

Will always hold him in high regard though.

Boy you love to attack.  Specifically outline how my saying he’s a roll player that is still effective in his roll is tantamount to my saying he’s an all-star?  <roll eyes>

He was was very effective down the stretch for Atlanta and he put up, what is it, 3 sacks in 4 games for Seattle this year.

Posting to twist, discredit, and be argumentive, without grounds, is low.  I tire of such rubbish.

You call that an attack?? Look you had to get a dig in on our DC and he is not even the one who signs players. But don't let a little thing like that interfere with getting your negative thing in.

The Colts run both actually.    He can still get to the qb.  I don't think ballard is going to sign him though

He has already signed with Detroit.

I understand that Freeney is a well liked ex Colt. Who is to say he would have even re signed with the Colts? Saying what we should have done without knowing all the details is one thing this forum is good for.

We both know that.

I did not have the Colts DC specifically in mind.  It was a general statement that good coaches know how to effectively use role players.  If anything, It miiiiiiight be applicable to the fired a few years ago DC, but the fact they let Freeney go after one year in the Grigson / Pagano regime, we’ll never truly know.

Also, in reply to my asking you to demonstrate specifically what it is that I said that might be misconstrued into thinking I “act like he’s an all-star or something”.

Yes, I think it was an attack, entirely unfounded in what you characterized my post as being.  And in your reply above, you are still insulting with the condescending emoji you use. I have reported your post, as I have no patience for unfounded baloney, like what you posted in reply.   If there is an ignore feature, I would use it on you.

Bottom line, what you posted in reply to my comment about him still being an effective role player is purely either a lie or simply very telling in demonstrating a lack of reading comprehension.  Not to mention you seem to love to misread intent and in turn wrongfully put words into one’s mouth.  I will not repond to you any more on this topic.  And based on how you go off the rails in attack right away, I recommend you now ignore my posts as well.

The COLTS i watch every Sunday play much more 4-2 and thus could use a pass rushing specialist DE like Freeney.

Last season we used a 4 man front 65% of the time. So were we a 3-4 team? Looks about the same this season.

That said, we have Zero need for him.

I am sorry for hurting your feelings. What I said was not an attack and was never meant to be an attack. That's how you took it.

Does it make you feel better to report me? No problem at all. I will just ignore your comments from now on.

The funny thing is all this talking about Freeney means zero. We have no clue if Freeney would have signed with the Colts anyway. Was he offered a contract? Did he turn it down? Did he tell his agent not to deal with the Colts?  Had this guy had any other name besides Freeney it would not have been treated any different than any other free agent.

Why would the colts sign him right now? Why would he sign here right now? The Colts aren't going to the playoffs.   The lions have a shot.   Pretty simple
