Either

  1. blow it up
  2. or assume a new OL coach and new OL scheme would restore the 3 vets, and find 2 new starters.

No. He was a TE, then OT.

i think #2 is good. Smith, Kelly and Q with a first round pick LT and a starting FA RG or RT and move Smith to RG

Depends on where they end up in the draft.  If they are in position to get one of the big three QBs in the first round I fully expect that’s what they will do.  If not and unless a guy like Will Anderson is sitting there I am guessing they go tackle in the first round.

That would give them options as they would have Raimann and Smith they could pair with a rookie and get two starting tackles and a starting RG out of that group I think.  I think it would be wise to draft a center/guard in the third or fourth round if they can as well.

A lot will depend on what they do with Kelly and that will probably depend on if it’s a new GM or not.  I think Nelson will stay at left guard but a new regime may have other ideas with Nelson.

What's Raimann history

Has he played RG or RT

He played WR and TE in high school and was originally a tightend at Central Michigan before moving to LT in 2020 and started 6 games at LT in 2020 and 12 games at LT in 2021.  Something the Colts could do with Raimann depending on what they add next year is use him as the “blocking tightend” / sixth lineman which seemed to be his role in the Texans game and was by far the Colts best rushing game of the season.

I don t think so.  But if we draft a better OT than Raimann...and I think we need to...I want him at LT.  And since I don't think the new GM will cut Nelson and slide Raimann over to LG, Raimann better learn to play on the right side ASAP.

If this oline stinks, do you want to rely on Raimann to develop into the starting LT next year?  That would be sort of gambling like we did with Pryor.  Since the answer is no, where does he play?

I have zero desire to move Smith to RG. Smith was elite at RT when motivated. And RT is more important than RG.

And heck, nobody appreciated Glow at RG.

Just in general, a lot of options. Not saying I want to do the below, just saying options...

LT - Sign a proven LT. You can draft a 1R guy, but we likely the 1R pick to take a QB. Or try with Nelson.

LG - stick with Nelson, or trade Nelson to get draft capital, trade for a LT, and to free up $.

C - stick with Kelly, or try Pinter, who played good at C last year.

RG - Get Glow back lol... Sign a FA, or draft in 2nd or 3rd.

RT - stick with Smith

Raimann - was rushed. Needed S&C bad. He'll need time to improves strength.

Pryor/DKelly - keep for depth

I think Raiimann plays the right side with Smith at guard - it's only a matter of time for Smith on the outside

As of today, there are three LT’s that are getting the most buzz.

People here now Parris Johnson from Ohio State, and Peter Norwonski (sp?) from Northwestern.    But there’s another moving up the charts.   He plays LT at Penn State.   A big African kid, apologies, I’d butcher his name.

As of today, I think all three are roughly top-20 kids.

I think that’s it for now….

Assuming Pinter takes over at center sign a FA agent guard and draft a tackle and guard.

I don’t know if I would make that assumption.  I think it’s an option for sure but I don’t think it’s close to something I would assume is going to happen for sure.

Johnson is the best prospect at this point, IMO.  The kid from Northwestern might be a better player, but he doesn't have the traditional NFL OT body...only 6' 3".

There are some others with both the length and the resume to think about.  All are 6'5" or taller.  Some may be second and third rounders and RTs.

Anton Nelson, OK

Jaelyn Duncan, Maryland

Zion Nelson . MIA

Jack Nelson, WI

Jaxon Kirkland WA

Ryan Hayes, MI

Walter Rouse, Stanford

Jordan Morgan. AZ.

Bernhard Raimann Offensive Guard Central Michigan     Versitile - able to play guard and tackle. During 2021 we have rated Raimann as one of the highest-rated blockers in football - he has dominated. Powerful run blocker -

I don't think Raimann ever played Guard.

I think Saturday may have hinted what may happen with the OL in the short term when he told the story of him when he was a player moving over to guard for the good of the team. Don't be surprised if the next OL reiteration has Kelly as RG and Pinter as C. Saturday announced that Raimann will be LT and Nelson most likely will stay at LG. That leaves RT for Smith or Kelly.

Fire Strausser, trade Ryan Kelly, ask Raimann to get stronger to play LT because he has the feet more than he has the strength, get a good RT/LT candidate in Round 2 after getting a QB in Round 1.

In a draft where we will be picking in the Top 10 very likely in both rounds, we should be able to land quality players at QB and OT in a draft deep in OT, IMO.

    • This is true. But even once AR started throwing downfield more (comeback against LAR and TEN game), AP still only had one downfield target. With AD here and Downs coming into year 2, I just don't see a huge bump for AP coming.
    • I think AD can win on the nine routes well enough to be that deep threat (he's got the long speed), but more importantly, he also can win on all the routes where AP really hasn't (AD really shined in the RZ too at Texas).   I think he will be a RZ threat right away and can be a really solid WR2 (assuming he becomes a willing blocker and the effort stuff is behind him). Don't know if he will ever a YAC machine though.   Does Harmon mean that his evaluation of AP coming out of college was similar to the "DK can only run nine routes and can't move laterally" evaluation? I don't entirely remember DK's evaluation, but I recall it sounding something like that.
    • Lawrence Owen recently said that Brandon Aiyuk is a "system WR who wouldn't put up 700 yards on 90% of NFL teams." He's about as untrusty of a narrator as you can possibly get. And like us watching at home, he is not privy to the route calls, the playcalls, the reads, etc.    But I watched the video. AP had a great game. However, Lawrence is driving this narrative with this one game against arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL last year. Fulton (#26), who was on AP much of this game, was especially bad last year, registering a 46 PFF grade.     They had mismatches all over coming into the game and they exploited it from the beginning, hence AP's involvement. It's really not any deeper than that. This game was a complete outlier from any other game too, as far as production.       So Minshew held back the whole team, but benefited MPJ and Downs?    If AP was getting open all the time and it was "like this every game", he wouldn't have ended up #124 in win route rate or #110 in avg. separation (min. 45 tgts). The people who watch every game and the tools that track these stats don't support this idea.   As someone said earlier, targets are earned. Minshew is executing the offense, but Steichen is the calling the plays and assigning reads in the RPO. So why wasn't Steichen dialing up more plays after this TEN game? Minshew made the throws in this game, so clearly he can make the throws.   And even with AR, who we know can make all the throws, they were hardly dialing up plays for AP either.   With the drafting of AD, it speaks volumes about who is holding back AP.
    • It’s gotta be one of those two or Laiatu.  I guess I’d say Odunze, since TE didn’t end up being a position we hit at all, so there’s no proof CB considered it a need.  However, that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t trade up for a unique talent (Bowers) for whom we have a “plan”…
    • Does it mean anything to you that Kwity had 2 less sacks than $170M Joey Bosey? Bosa played 180 more snaps. Kwity did a great job playing his edge, the run, and covering his flat. He also got his breather on a lot of 3rd downs because... we were developing Dayo and had Lewis who was very effective in rotation on limited snaps.
