Prototypical Ballard outside corner. 6‘2 with 32 inch arms. Had character concerns coming out of college, but nothing negative reported the last 3 years. Worth the shot IMO. Played solid in 2018 and 2019, struggled last season. However, we know that the requirements for our defense are very different from those of a Mike Zimmer D.

He was suspended for 8 games in 2019. 4 for PED's, 4 for "substances of abuse". That, plus his issues in college and his foot injury are what led to the Vikings cutting him. He's a talented guy that needs to get his head on straight. We have a really strong DB room, so hopefully we can get the best out of his and help him keep his head on straight.

He’s got the size they like, but you’re right, the CB room is pretty well set.  I wouldn’t say it’s strong, but it’s decent and experienced.  Even if we carry 6, it looks set.

Between Moore, Rhodes, Rock, Tell, Carrie, and Rodgers (in no particular order), it will be hard to earn a spot.  But you never know, injures happen.

And here I thought Ballard only signed high character guys.

Yes to the above,  but for right now,  I think we're down 2 guys on Covid protocols...    Rhodes and Carrie.

We've got openings (even if just temporary) and we need people....    Hill has the measurables that Ballard likes...

He already said that the locker room is so solid, it could handle guys who weren't exactly "high character".

Not to mention that people (hopefully) mature as they get older.

By strong, I meant the character & leadership within the DB room. There's definitely room talent-wise though and Hill has a lot of talent if he can stay on the field.

I think Hill could easily be first one in with injury to any of top 6 (Almost a guarantee we keep 6) because neither Andre Chachere nor Anthony Chesley the remaining cb's bring any expierence nor real upside to the table.

I recall how much you liked him in college and you wanted the Colts to sign him as an undrafted free agent. I thought he was inconsistent. He seemed to show flashes, especially early on. I thougbt that he had the skills to play the position but he seemed not to try hard. I always felt that we could not depend on him. (Just my opinion)

Hope he succeeds with the Colts.

Graded well in his rook year (70ish), then proceeded to get two suspensions (one PED, one sub abuse), and was injured IIRC.

Good speed (4.49) and good height. Very up and down, but maybe he's matured and is ready to get back to his 2018 grades.....

The DE we just signed had a similar past. Ballard seems to be testing the locker room. And I'm perfectly fine with it.

yup, but... or and...

"Overview

Hill has the size, strength and athletic ability that teams covet at cornerback, but his maturity issues will force teams to have early conversations about whether or not he will be on their board. Hill made tremendous strides as a cover man this year and has the potential to take yet another big step forward once he trusts his footwork and becomes less grabby. His instincts and physicality in run support could allow teams to consider moving him to safety at some point. If Hill runs well at the Combine, that could override potential maturity issues."

sounds a lot like RYS, if RYS was suspended several times in college and the NFL...

    • Imagine how much better the colts would do if the Redzone was part of the Endzone?
    • People are not panicking about wentz …. It’s about how the defense went from number 2 against the run to bottom 5 in a year . The defense went backwards and so did the running game and offensive line . Rivers was a game manager last year only putting up 24 touchdowns to 12 picks . We won games by running the ball and defense .
    • Any team that has the position group that it has invested super heavily into (OL) that has as many injury issues as we do to that group, is going to struggle mightily.  If you have the leagues best WR group with health equivalent to our OLs this early season, your passing game is going to look like garbage.  Now, the coaching is doing nothing to help us out.  As for the GM.... This team had to be turned completely over.  There are something like 3-5 guys still in the LEAGUE from the roster he inherited.... It's easier to replace total losers with competent guys, than it is to upgrade from competent to high end or all star....  We're still likely headed the right direction.     This season is likely not our year.  Sucks, but it looks like it.     Changes likely need to be made.... I expect we'll see turnover in the position coach and possibly coordinators positions.... (Eberflus) unless it continues to just go completely pear shaped.... Then Reich might be at risk.     I can't imagine Irsay will be very happy if we have a total crap season, and his staff surrenders a first round pick in exchange for a seven win or worse season.
    • I made a thread not too long ago comparing Polians actual first years as a GM and he didn't reach a SB for over 9 years if I remember correctly.
    • For several seasons now, other teams already know about our player’s strengths and weaknesses. I would bet that other coaches know what coach Reich’s next decision will be. Since Mr. Wentz started, even we knew he would not be stable and unable to scramble to make incredible plays like other healthy QB do. It’s like a pack of wolves going after the wounded prey…Ooo, sorry Mr Wentz, you are our wounded prey. I agree with a lot of other posts but your attempts at victories are an up hill battle, and more importantly, your health. Coaches bench their injured QBs(RG3) and some QBs quit(we know who that is), right. I respect your desire to be our leader but if you put your foot down( gently so you don’t re injure it) and tell coach, “ I need to rehab it better and I will let you know when I am ready,”…we all will understand. Other teams can predict Reich, you, and the position you are in for the next play. You still have 3 more years to get back to the Big Game. Predictability, that’s my prediction for the next game, and the next, and so on! Go, Colts!
