You have a league source?

Yeah, Im a writer for the Montreal Gazette and several website so I get a league source in Indy. He's actually the same one that a lot of the guys at ESPN (not Schefter, he has a ton of sources) use. I can't say his name though, that's confidential, don't know why. I get news earlier than the fans. It's great though, and if you want, I could tell you news early if you want, I'll send u messages.

We can't get something for Freeney? Anything?

I'm asking him for more details, but what he gave my a brief analysis saying that the Colts are not getting good offers for Dwight and that if they dont get anything, they'll just dump him. Looks like Freeney is not a Colt next year. Gonna make a thread about it.

quality pass rushers are rare in this league. If Grigson, flat out releases him, it will be the first really dumb move by him. He's still worth as much as Richard Seymour when he was traded. Even more if hes willing to restructure his contract

Keep in mind that releasing him would open up cap space to sign FAs and draftees that could come in and play OLB right away. Freeney wasn't a 3-4 OLB, and he hasn't been taught it yet. It's better to have a guy who knows it come and take it from there. Seymour was a little younger than Freeney, with the expectation that that he had more good years with him. Freeney has maybe some good years ahead of him, but remember Seymour was traded to the Raiders, who have a pretty weak FO. BTW, it is already confirmed that Freeney will not renegotiate.

Call the Redskins and Raiders.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Redskins just gave up five picks for RGIII, and the Raiders don't have draft picks until the 5th round. Evidently they really wanted to be able to take Thursday and Friday off that week. Company retreat or something.

Gotta be honest, haven't posted in awhile as a result of not wanting to feed too much into all the madness. But this is amazing the guys they've released this week alone, Manning being the obvious one of course. However, looking at it objectively, they're just cutting guys that've been hurt and would be cut from any other team (aside from Manning obviously) given the circumstances. I mean, what good are any of those players on the bench? Where's Addai gonna go? How about Brackett or Bullitt? Role players at best for the rest of their careers, not a shot against them, just calling it how I see it.

Being a fan, I tend to be a little sentimental, yet I support the approach so far. We'll see how it pans out.

P.S.

How is Gonzo NOT on this list

My main concern about Grigson was his understanding of how to manage the cap. This bloodletting of the roster reminds me so much of what the great Joe Thomas did in 1972. I think Grigson gets it. The Colts aren't going anywhere in 2012 anyway, so get rid of all the players who won't be here to contribute in 2015, and confine the cap pain to this year. Just grit your teeth for 16 more games, and then watch the rebuilding gather speed in 2013 when we're 30mil under the cap, can trade our top-5 pick for two 1st rounders, and have more compensation picks. The first goal in this year's draft is to get more o-linemen and receivers to help Luck survive. Maybe we'll be able to get a third-rounder for Freeney.

Under the circumstances, I am puzzled as to why they bothered to re-sign Mathis, unless they intend to trade him.

This is indeed a wild ride. As 'Johnny' in the movie 'Airplane' said ( referencing the tv series 'The Big Valley' ): "Nick! Heath! Jared! There's a fire in the barn!"

my thoughts exactly (in bold)....... we don't want him injured. he might be a diamond in the rough. As far as Mathis, they want to convert him to Linebacker. And he'll be a monster at that position,,,, OLB.

Mathis is going to be the oldest, most tenured player on the team. I know he wished he had known about the house cleaning beforehand but I guess he really didn't have much of a choice since he was tagged.

Justin snow has been around since manning was a rookie. People always forget the long snapper poor guy isn't even in madden.

Smitto once again you hit it on the head. Did I want to see any of these players leave NO. But lets keep it real, Clarks injuries have gotten the best of him in the past few years. Bracket injuries, not a true MLB. Bullitt when healthy can play but hasnt been healthy. Painter NUFF SAID. It was time the front office is cutting the fat. It is a what have you done for me lately league. none of the players listed have done anything lately. That is what made them expendable. Sad but it is the business, if you dont produce at your job you will get the AX to. The Colts will get some good FA because the money will be there. Stick in there fans it wont be as bad as you think. Go Colts.

I totally agree and I was listening to bill polian on ESPN yesterday and he was saying how the colts set themselves up to be well off in the future salary cap wise... that is some awesome news.

Even before this recent round of cuts, resonable folks knew the Colts wouldn't be contending for the division next year. We'll be picking in the top 10 again come April, 2013, which is fine and sets the team up nicely moving ahead. Again, the magnitude and reality of escaping our "cap heck" and flawed team structuring is here. It's no small thing to turn around the complex problems.

CRAZY RUMOR ALERT:

I just got a call from a friend that lives in Stillwater OK, where he was in attendance and works security at the Oklahoma State pro day. He said that Manning arrived at the stadium and was greeted by Elway, Fox and Xanders and were then escorted into a meeting room. Shortly afterwards, Justin Blackmon was brought into said conference room and stayed for nearly 45 minutes. The doors opened and Blackmon ran down the hall back to the field with a huge smile on his face. The rest of the posse left shortly afterwards to escort Manning to their private jet heading to Denver.

He did not hear anything from anybody what was said, but one can only make a clear assumption of what was discussed in that room. Does Denver have the ability to move up to get Blackmon? Would it be like the Redskins Deal that just happened? What about a potential trade out of Tebow to move up to that spot in the draft? Blackmon is supposed to be top 5 right? Who would benefit from a Tebow trade?

I asked my friend if any of this was ^cowpatties^ he said no way!

Could this happen?

Yes, it could happen but and wouldn't be a terrible idea assuming Peyton signs with Denver.

I guess my question would be, what team would be stupid enough to trade their top 5-7 pick for Tim Frickin Tebow?

Clark is the only one of these that is midly surprising. Everyone else their replacement is already on the roster.

Addai - Been Injured a lot since 2007 and Carter can provide the same type of ability as Addai (people will say Brown and I expect to see him a lot, but he's a different type of runner).

Brackett - I'm a huge Brackett fan.... you have to root for a 5'8" LB in the NFL. But Angerer outplayed Brackett's best year at LB.

Bullitt: Both Lefeged and Caldwell played as well or better than Bullitt

Painter - It's sad really, when you watch Painter in practice you see he has some great tools, strong arm, nice touch, ability to go through his progressions, but he just doesn't know how to take it to the field.

People talk about Nicks or Grubbs (which I do want to point out, a month ago everyone was talking about Nicks and no one was talking about Grubbs and I posted I thought Grubbs would provide the same benefit for a lot less money than Nicks). I still say J. Johnson will be the Colts first FA signing, probably as soon as Wednesday.

I'm really sorry you fartknockers lost your long-necked hilly-billy hero. It's collateral damage from having a lucky sperm owner that thinks his farts smell like candy. Be happy you will suck for about four years until Andrew Luck figures out the NFL and signs with some needy team like the Jets. It's all about the Horshoe!!!

Nice to see ya back CD, but I have to disagree about Dallas Clark. We found his replacement in Jacob Tamme, and it's all but certain that he's going to be resigned. He's a great young kid who is as or almost as productive as Clark. He's also not going to ask for Dallas Clark money or he'll just be released. The Colts were smart to dump Clark, his contract is too big and they have a replacement. It's really no surprise at all when you think about it.

BTW, Melvin Bullitt was a better player than Lefeged and Caldwell. Caldwell was lost a lot of the time this year and Lefeged had 2 golden passes and that's why he had those picks. They didn't impress me at all. If anything Bullitt was the surprising one as there is no backup or heir to him. The Colts iwll probably draft someone in the middle rounds. It's a terrible S draft. Either way, Bullitt was better than Lefeged or Caldwell, it's just those darn injuries.

Oh and Carter is not like Addai. Addai can block and catch very well and has a different style from Carter. He likes to juke out of the way and find holes and Carter just wants to bust through. Carter is working on his blocking however, but Addai was an elite blocking running back. Addai was skinny too and Carter is 225. Two different players.

Mike Chappell thinks #93 is out too.

Mike Chappell@mchappell51

With 38 mill in dead money in 2012, Colts have about 82 mill to build roster. And Freeney counts 19 mill (23 pct). Adios #93

I saw that and saw it as a retweet of Kravitz but with that said I don't think it matters who said it I think they are right. I just wish Kravitz would stop coming across like he's taking some kinda joy out of seeing us gut the team...

Yep he's been here forever and has been very good. I know people were talking about cutting him earlier this off-season but just like Adam I don't think you save enough money from doing it to make it make sense. The fact Justin Snow is forgotten by so many people other than when they are trying to make a joke just throw out names that can be cut tells you just how good Snow is at his job.

Well I hope the new "front office" treats man perm just like the old one did. A man earn's respect, it is NOT given.... just because you write horrible "shock collums" for the Star.

Yep I never had an issue with Polian being a jerk to Kravitz and Phil B. I just got so sick of hearing them cry about it. I mean honestly Phil B. can't do an interview without crying about it or working in a shot because they wouldn't talk to him(and I mean presence tense because he still complains about it even though the Polians are gone). Poor baby. Do your job and get a new sourse who will talk to you and force them to talk to you so they can get their story out there that they want out there. That's how the big boy media does it in other cities.

I just remember saying pretty much the samething earlier this year when people were in a bash on Polian mood and getting ripped a new one for it because people were standing up for Kravitz. I can't help but laugh as other people (and I mean people in a general statement I am not directing it at you) have gone back to hating Kravitz this off-season. I just hated Kravitz all along lol.
