Imagine if Peyton was our next HC? Imagine how fired up this whole fan base would be! He has the mind for it but not sure he would want to do it. Just something to think about it.

Now why would Payton want to be a head coach? He has already said he wanted to spend time with his family and a head coaching job wouldn't allow the time needed for that. I jus have a feeling if Payton gets back into football it will be a GM or a part owner position.

*Cough* It's Peyton btw. Sorry, minor gripe :D.

I would love someone with the intensity of Bill Cowher to be our next coach.

Just watching the spit fly out of his mouth in slow motion is enough to get anyone ready to play football

One of my favorite coaches

This is totally off topic, but I kinda like how Mike Tomlin handle things. Tough in the right way.

It looks to be tough, we will see though.  He can still easily speak out or continue to hit the social media forum for trade talks.  Or just pop hot again and ride off into the sunset...lol

I don't see Jim hiring a first time head coach this time around.  Even if Toub and Ballard are close.  I think it will be a former SB winning coach.  The big name college and former NFL head coaches would also make sense but their current positions are top tier and they have full control.  Very unlikely to leave right now.  Unless we trade for a former SB winning coach that is currently coaching, which is highly unlikely, that doesn't leave too many options.  Jim is going to want to make a splash for the fans and bring excitement back into the organization.  Out of all the former SB coaches that are not coaching and working elsewhere, for instance the broadcast booth, there is only one candidate that "I can foresee going back to coaching" that would generate the excitement that Jim will want to bring back to the Colts.  That former coach is Jon Gruden.  There were reports there were discussions last year.  This year I think Jim has put in place a GM who I think Gruden would love to work with and this year I think Jim gets his charismatic former SB winning coach to coach the Colts.

All I want is a coach who will take chances and be an aggressor. A coach who will keep his foot on the gas pedal. This is the NFL, not the peewees. I don't care if we are up 21 in the 3rd I'm throwing that ball deep to Hilton and nobody will stop me. We lose games because we play not to lose, we don't play to win. Its about putting the most points up until the clock hits 0. Our goal is to score first, defend second.

Well yea, but it takes time to develop a deep route, which puts unneeded pressure on your QB, so nah I'd rather just run it up 21.

If Luck doesn't play this year the team and fans are going to be in a real funk.  He will need to hire a coach that will get the fans excited again and help sell tickets and help attract free agents.  First time HC candidates like Toub make no sense IMO.  He has to make a splash with a big time name that gives the team instant credibility again.

James Franklin

Hey each year you have the talk of college coaches jumping to the NFL.  This guy has been doing very well for himself.  I doubt he goes anywhere though.  Similar to Dabo and Clemson.  Interesting name in the hat though.  There are a few college guys who names will probably be brought up, regardless if they are actually interested.

Harbaugh

Saban

Kirby Smart

Franklin

Maybe even Sweeney

How about the Belichick (attempted) clone himself, Brain Kelly

Just throwing some names in the mix for thoughts really...

I'm warming up to the idea of Josh McDaniels. Jim Harbaugh? Less and less if all the stories are true. Maybe they aren't.

Still on the fence about Gruden... Though he does seem to genuinely like Luck. The rest of the organization?

It's going to be a hard sell, because we will most likely be rebuilding next season in addition to now.

If Harbaugh doesn't beat Penn St. on Saturday there's a chance he's available. I didn't think that would be the case. Now you have to figure out if you want him and all of his *charm*.

If Ballard want's Taub, that's fine. I have no idea if he's any good, but I'll accept that he'd have an idea where I wouldn't.

i think it will be Taub.  you've got a few good years out of luck (if he heals all the way up and stays that way -- unlikely based on protection)..... and if the Colts can somehow not screw up the Jacoby Brissett thing, and keep him, it would be enticing for Taub to come here.  Unfortunately, we get a coach learning to be a head coach (remind you of anyone?)

Excellent question

Of the names being mentioned I would like to have McDaniels but this is something that is extremely interesting.  Who would he pull in to be his DC?  I see him being the HC/OC anyways but very curious who he could pull in the mix as his staff.  Would he keep Shotty to work with Luck still?  Perplexing to say the least...

He should command the offense himself. He's a god among men.

I could warm up to the idea of McDaniels if he called the plays himself like Sean Payton.  That is one of his strengths and he should keep it.  I still have a feeling Jim will want to make a bigger splash and will try again for Gruden.  I think it's more likely McDaniels will wait for Bellicheck to retire.

I do not disagree with this thought.  That being said McDaniels is not guaranteed anything when Belichick steps away.  They might stick with a defensive mind and hire Matt Patricia.  Who knows!

That's why I don't see Taub. I think Jim wants a bigger name and a big splash to excite the fans again and maybe even attract some free agents.  I think FA would love to play for a coach like Gruden versus an unknown like Taub.

That's kind of an exaggerated statement maybe. I'm just trying to get my point that I want a coach who has the fire and drive to lay it on opponents instead of playing not to lose. I'm sick of the conservative play calling and running Gore up the middle every down when we have a lead. Do some screens, out routes, pitch it to Mack. We need some excitement.

My top choice would have to be Josh McDaniels because of what he does with the Pats offence. Yes, he has Tom Brady. Yes, he has had some pretty good receivers. But when they have no namers out there it doesn't seem like they miss a beat. That's because he plays to the players STRENGTH. Something our coaching staff has NEVER done.

So far he hasn't played to Dorsett's and Allen's strengths.  I would think Bellicheck isn't to happy about that after the trades he made to get two of our starters. He probably thought he could help them reach their potential.  Wrong so far.

I feel like he hasn't played to their strengths yet simply because he doesn't really need them. Allen was notorious for drops, he has had the targets. Dorsett hasn't seen the field much. If you look at what he's done with Hogan and Ammendola alone, I think that's been pretty impressive. The running backs is huge to me also. They basically took 2 backups and use them in a rotation to ground and pound defenses. They were effective in their old roles, but I believe they compliment each other and work well together, Which is what Gore and Mack should be doing. But I do agree with you that he hasn't been jump off the paper impressive.

Dorsett was only ever one of our starters because of Moncrief's injury last year.  Prior to being traded, he was looking to be 4th on the depth chart.

    • Ballard does have thick skin.  You just choose to not to see it that way.      Ballard is the face and voice of the franchise.  Irsay’s health does not make him an effective public face of the franchise.  Frank was OK, Steichen less so.   So Ballard does the lion share of teams PR.    And Ballard has always said he’d rather the fans be angry than be apathetic.  Shows they care.  Of course, you know this but choose not to acknowledge it because it undercuts your distorted view of CB.   I don’t know what CBs relationship is with Kevin Bowen who I like.   So let’s say it’s complicated.   But on balance I think Ballard has a good relationship with the local media.  I’d be surprised if he didn’t.  He is loved by national media.  He’s got a personality and a sense of humor.  I’m sorry you don’t care for it.    Of course you have yet to acknowledge that you and Moose literally said that Ballard didn’t know enough about Mitchell to know if he was a good guy.   For a man in your profession, THAT is a whopper.  Why you thought that is a mystery?   By the way, hope you notice that at least twice I’ve now said you’re smarter than you show.  There’s a compliment in there somewhere if you let yourself see it.    But I think you’ve painted yourself into a corner.  You come across as someone who’d rather be right about Ballard being bad even if it means the Colts do poorly than be wrong and have the Colts do well.    The reason Irsay hasn’t fired Ballard for the teams record is because Irsay approved of what CB was doing in real time.   Believe what you want but Irsay has done the GM job himself so he knows how it goes.  And he has chosen to keep Ballard.  Unless you don’t like Irsay too, you might want to consider that.  Life is more fun being optimistic than negative.     Sorry this went so long.
    • I think it’s backwards.  MPJ is definitely Reggie based on skill set and tendencies.  AD can become Marvin with his explosiveness.   Raimann - I think he’ll be Castonzo.  Ol reliable, underappreciated, majority won’t realize how good he was until he’s gone.   AD - if he becomes what we think he can, Ocho Cinco.  Cocky, competitive, but will perform his butt off and will dance every chance he gets lol   Jelani Woods - Jimmy Graham, fast for his size, walking mismatch.
    • speaking of which, I’m about to win some good money.  I bet that brown would be FMVP, the Celtics would win the series, and it last at least 4 games.
    • more reason to believe that after the top 3 wide receivers, Latu was their guy.  To not accept an offer to move back ONLY 4 spots and gain a top 100 pick is hard to do.  Bet if the rams through in a second instead of a third we might’ve took it.   think about it, if you move back 4 spots you’d still have a shot at one of the two top corners or even Dallas turner.  And we said no thanks, we want Latu.
