What happened to the stretch run plays?

Edge going to Arizona and this new line inable to sell the fake?

Or maybe they just dont play like dat.

Edge was the last guy that we had that could really be effective at it. Maybe Dom Rhoads. Personally I don't care what kind of run plays we run as long as they are gaining positive yards! haha

Its not really the line that cant sell the fake....Its actually Luck, He is horrible at ball fakes, He sticks the ball out there for everyone to see(Not leaving the ball out there for the rb to run up to really) like he is going to hand it off and doesn't put it in the Backs belly and quickly take it out.....Basically you would have to be blind not to see the ball the whole time or simply not reading where the ball is at, Luck needs to watch some Peyton tape on his play action I think

Holy Cow....

I guess this must be like art....    Everyone sees the same thing differently.

I think Luck is terrific at play action and play fakes.    He was at Stanford, and he is with Indy.

I think the real shame of it is we simply don't use it very often.   You can probably count the number of times in a season on two hands with several fingers left over.    It's a waste we don't use it more often.

I don't know what you're seeing,  but it looks totally different on my TV screen....

I just don't like the way he does it, I don't see how anyone would be fooled how he does it, He holds the ball out there like he is going to hand off but most often pulls the ball back way to early instead of putting the ball in the rb's gut and pulling it out quickly after, much of it is on the rb to accelerate quickly out of his stance and act like he is cradling the ball in his gut though , Peyton was the master at it here.....Im not trying to compare the two intentionally because I simply don't want to open that pandoras box again but I'd like if Luck would study the mechanics of how Peyton did it....extends his arm and hand straight out putting the ball in the rb's gut then immediately pulling it out as he rolled out to turn and throw, Just my 2 cents

I don't know how you've come to this conclusion?    In order for this to happen, Luck has to be under center and run play-action.

Do we even do this on average of once a game?    I'm asking because I think that about all we do with Luck under center -- once a game.   And it doesn't always lead to play-action.    So, I think there are incredibly few examples to rely on.

I think we keep Luck either in the pistol or mostly shot-gun because we are paranoid afraid of putting Luck under center and the defense blitzing us in the A-gaps.       So, we basically don't do it.    That's the status of our line and our running game.

I can't tell you how much that annoys me.   That could be a good sized part of our offense and it's not.   A complete waste.

Yesss   ..   The interior of Indy's line has been sooooo bad they cannot even ATTEMPT play action because it is fooling no one and by the time a "good sell" of a fake is executed.. .  Luck wil turn around and get blasted.

Gotta be stout up the gut to pull great play action off...     ie  RUN THE BALLL..  hehehee

We don't do it a lot overall but Im not talking about how much we do it, Im talking about how its done

Surprised no one said it - Trent Richardson happened. You can't run a stretch with that guy. We really don't have a back that you can run stretches with. Boom would be the best bet it just never materialized that wasn't the type of offensive team we were at that point.

    • The Colts, desperate for a long term solution at Quarterback, picked one in a miserable draft for qb,s. Should have went with another left tackle or defense. Should have spent thier money on Carr or Mayfield. this would have locked the position down for at least 5 or 6 years. By then maybe another prospect will come along or at least be in position to make a better decision. For gods sake, who thought it was a good idea to pick a player with so few tools and experience. He is not only a young rookie ,he is new to the position of quarterback in college much less the NFL. Yes he is gifted, he can throw the ball a mile. So could I at 22 years old but doing it in professional football no way.
    • Didn't you know SB or bust every single year... Lol.
    • Cuz we've had such great QB play during that stretch.
    • I mean, may it take longer for AR to reach his full potential because of his age, rawness, and lack of experience….maybe yes maybe be no, but that’s for any qb.  There’s maybe one qb every few or so years that comes in and is ready to go.  Look at the past 5-10 drafts and you’ll see what I’m saying.  Even Pat Mahomes had to sit before he touched the field.  Trust me, it’s a short list.     NFL fans (and teams alike) have been spoiled with the thought of QBs coming in right away and getting into done when in reality that’s not the case.  ARs timeline/trajectory is going to be very similar to Josh Allen’s and tbh Allen didn’t start to really get it until Diggs came around.  A QBs development is dependent upon not just the qb himself, but the personnel, the coaches, the system.     Question, what would you have done in our situation?  Draft Levis?  I mean, I agree with you, I was one of the people on this board that wanted to do whatever we needed to get stroud, but it didn’t happen.  So We were either going to draft AR or Levis.  And if you didn’t want either one of them then you’re pretty much onboard with a full blown rebuild and waiting until next year because no other qb was worth drafting in the first round.  And to be real, AR would’ve been a top 3 QB in this past draft also.
    • Ahh man an old time Colt. I remember him having those fat bar facemasks at one point. Sucks.
