Jonathan Martin -- would he help our OL? [Merge]

Kind of interesting thought -- I think Martin is a pretty good player -- obviously there will be some controversy/drama made by the media whereever he winds up (if he winds up anywhere?).  Any chance the Colts would be front-runners to sign him if he leaves Miami??  As the article points out, Luck, Whalen, Fleener and Pep all spoke positively of Martin in public and private -- I think Martin would be an upgrade to our depth at OT and I am not sure how he'd fair if he transitioned to OG, but given how bad we were there and not know the status of D. Thomas' health, I'd have to think he'd have a shot to crack our line-up there.

Thoughts?

It depends on whether or not he wants to start, and could he start at guard.

I don't think he can start ahead of AC or Cherilus...    But would he be willing to be our 3rd OT??

I'm not sure he's a fit at guard.

So,  would we have some interest?    Sure.   I'd think so.

But it depends on if he gets an offer to start anywhere else and what it would cost to get him in either draft picks or money.

I know he's not popular here because of what happened in Miami....   but I view that as a Miami issue,  not a problem that JM will bring with him wherever he goes.    Especially not with the Colts since we have great leadership throughout the franchise.

He knows the system.

I think, assuming he is mentally sound after all that happened in MIA, he would be an improvement for depth at OT  -- I was, overall, very pleased with Castonzo and Cherilus, and if they're healthy, I think Martin is a long-shot to dethrone either of them.  And you are right, he is 6'5" 312 lbs... he may have at tough transition to guard, but I don't know that for sure.

Anyway, he started 23 of 23 games in his NFL career for Miami, and I think they've had a better OL than us during the past 2 seasons.

I'd be for giving him a shot on this team -- if he can help keep Luck upright or improve our run game, I don't think we've got any Incognito types on this team.

If we could get him on the cheap it would be a real good move imo. We're lacking in O-line depth. I think if there's a team he could maybe get his head straight on it's the Colts with the big time Stanford connection. But he hasn't proven he's good enough to pay serious cash for.

Martin is cancer. He is a media circus, a head case, and at best a backup.

Thats how you strengthen your line, bring in a guy who was never very good, who will have all his teammates not wanting to have anything to do with him, and potentially could have a fit one day and walk out because he is too soft to stand up for himself.

Any team that takes Martin is a fool.

He is a distraction and a disaster in the making for any team that would have him on their roster.

Have you seen him play?

His skills don't warrant the attention, drama, ect...

Not sure I would take him, but I do think he would be fine with "our guys"  None seem to be incognito.....

As for the head case some are suggesting, there is one Vontae Davis who thought he was playing Tom Brady this year :)  WHA WHA WHAT?

Someone has to ask it.  If he doesn't face a severe suspension would you want Incognito?

I personally want nothing to do with him.  I think our team leaders would kick his ___ if he pulled the same 'stuff' here.

Like Martin or not....the guy was a great student and person at Stanford.  Maybe he needs the right type of people around him.  Luck...Whalen...Fleener...Pep....This is not saying I want him...just saying....I do not want Incognito.

I would take him over Martin any day. He may not be great but at least he's a proven player at a position we need(guard) over a weak(physically and mentally) tackle that has been below average since coming in the league. With that said, I still wouldn't be particularly excited to have a guy that demonstrates a little bit of psychotic behavior at times.

I would rather reserve judgement until after the whole story comes out.  If it's all true and Incognito is crazy than not only do I not want him on this team, I don't think he deserves to play in the NFL and make millions of dollars.  If Martin is wrong than he needs to take some more time to get his head straight before he considers a comeback.   JMO

Dont want Incognito for sure. I dont believe a word he says, he is a head case and not that good of a Guard. I'd give Martin a tryout as a backup Guard if Miami officially lets him go(I dont think they have as far as I know) but I wouldn't trade anything for him...Well I'd package Mcglynn and Satele to Miami :funny:  but Miami already knows Satele stinks  (they traded him....there 2007 2nd round pick after only 2 seasons)
