Dark Superman
Im going to say the Andrew Luck Era will be more successful than the Peyton Manning era and here's why!Luck arguably had the better rookie year with a lot less to work with. Peyton had a veteran offensie line and Pro Bowl Wideout Marvin Harrison and we only ended up with three victories. Luck led the Colts to the playoffs with practically no line and a team full of rookies and new faces, Luck is that good and he's only a rookie. Key: Get more talent around this kid quickly. Protection is key. Thank god he's mobie unlike Manning was. He needs another receiver to go along with that arsenal. Luck is going to be great, we just need to give him more help around the ball.Defense: if the Manning era had a defense, Manning may have had 2 more rings. Personally I like what we are doing more in this era with Chuck Pagano's 3-4. I love the aggressive play style and hard hitting defenses.. The Cover 2 was far to soft and I'm more into having big run stoppers clogging holes and not small speed guys.. We should surely have a top 5-10 defense in a few years. I believe in Pagano and with a balanced team on offense and defense we should surely be a force to be reckoned with. Keep Luck on the fied and the opposing teams offense off it it. Overall in time I can see the Colts having a very balanced team. Lead by an Elite quarterback we are only setting ourselves up for greatness. I love what Grigson and Pagano are doing compared to the Dungy-Polian era. Prepare for a smash mouth defense and a offense which will be led by Luck that's surely going to score points and win games.I'm ready to build this monster.. I'm going out on a limb but I'm going to say Luck will win us 3 rings!I sure hope so!

MarylandTerrapin
If the Luck era > the Peyton era, then it means that the Colts will have had better postseason success. As you stated, putting a balanced team around Luck will be the difference. The Luck era will have the benefit of a front office willing to learn from the mistakes made during the Manning era. Dustin
3 rings is a pretty high expectationn. Only 4 QBs have done it.

Smurphy1
I think the Luck Era will greatly benefit from the new CBA especially the rookie wage scale. That will make it significantly easier to build a more balanced team as opposed to the very top heavy one we had with Manning.

They'll have to stop the Broncos bandwagon at the corner of sour & grapes first . I'v felt from day one Andrew Luck is better than 18 coming out of college plus he can run to make plays ,

unitaswestand
I agree with you. And it is not a shot against Peyton Manning or anyone related to those teams. The Colts in the Manning era were not very balanced. Take away the pass, put heat, and they lost. Or their defense lost the game. The one year we saw Manning get a good rushing attack and stopping the run in the playoffs, they won the Super Bowl. Madden style offense is exciting in regular season, but at the end of the day, the team that runs and stops the run better usually wins the Super Bowl. Because Pagano and Grigson seem dedicated to making a balanced team that can run and stop the run, that will give Luck a huge advantage over what Manning had to do. Jason_
I do think this era will be more successful, but I say that because of our GM and HC, not the QB. I think our HC will continue to build a more aggressive, "play with any score" defense instead of the "play with a lead" defense of the previous regime. I also think our current GM will be much more focused on maintaining a solid offensive line. I wish Manning could have been playing for the current FO and coaching staff, but that's not the way things worked out.
amfootball
Well for starters Luck went one and done in the playoffs so that is nothing new for Colt nation. Just kidding. :-) I don't think there is anyway Luck supercedes Manning's regular season accomplishments - 4 league MVPs and all those divisional titles. But honestly it won't take much to surpass him in the post-season. This is very similar to Rodgers and Favre. Favre had only one ring so if Luck just wins one in the next few years and piles up some early post-season victories than most will believe he will be more successful than Manning. VAcoltsfan
I dont think the Luck Era will have as many regular season wins as the Manning Era but I do think the Luck Era will have better "luck" in the postseason than the Manning Era. I dont think there will ever be an Era like what Manning did with the Colts and all those regular season wins.
schwamm
If Luck doesn't accomplish what you hope by the end of his rookie contract, that coveted balance you reference will start to become increasingly difficult to maintain, just as it did with Manning.IMO, that is when Grigs will really earn his salary. AntonMcG
I may be wrong, but I genuinely believe that when it comes to contract renewal time, Luck will be very accommodating toward ensuring he does not take up all the cap room. I think he is more of a team guy than Peyton. If Matt Hasselback came in when Peyton was here, you can be sure Peyton wouldn't have been sacrificing any of his snaps in practice. Peyton obviously wanted to win and have good guys around him, but he knew it was his team and he knew it was up to him to win games, which in many ways is correct. Cap room management is going to be an incredibly important component in the success of this era.

ÅÐØNϧ 1
Maybe we should wait until Luck plays another 10 to 15 years before comparing era's already. Why ? Year one is in the books Baby steps yes 11-5 was okay . With a better defense a Andrew Luck era which started last year will be compared to Peyton Manning's as a Colt yearly , I realize some talked about Peyton Manning last year & everytime he comes up they prefer off topic comments & cartoons maybe it'll be okay if the rest of us discuss our opinions as yours are obvious. As a newer member I'd like hear others opinions & Not be bothered by old opinions based on last years conversations or unwritten rules about what we can or cannot talk about , This is my humble opinion . BPM_Colt
I believe Luck will be more successful in the playoffs as well, but it is hard to accomplish what Manning did every regular season. I think we are building an all around better team than we have had in the past. Will be interesting to see our cap situation in a few years when Luck, Allen, Fleener, ands Hiltons rookie deals are up. Then we will see what kind of monster Grigs and Pagano can build in Indy

amfootball
Most in GB already think Rodger is better than Favre which is ridiclous but that is what one ring and one league MVP will do. I think if Luck wins a ring on his rookie deal or soon after many will think he is more of a success but really greatness is proven over time. So difficult to keep a champ caliber team together for long in the cap/FA era.
Steagles
If Nick Harper's girlfriend hadn't stabbed him, Peyton Manning would have at least one more ring. I base this only on the fact that Luck can RUN.... and it is so valuable in today's NFL... I am not a huge Favre fan but I don't think Rodgers is close to him. He does not have that ability to win games when he is behind like Favre did routinely. Favre also never had great talent around save for his final couple of years in GB and won a ton and almost took an undertalented Vikes team to the bowl. I mean had anyone heard of Percy Harvin before Favre? I agree about Luck. He has more phsycial skill than Manning and also has the "it" factor - makes everyone around him better and can comeback in the 4th like Manning.
