Training camp August 7th 9 am

It was a bonehead play by Cross.  But Downs is going to be tackled to the ground many times this year (we hope).

Cross is right in that respect.  It’s football, stuff happens.

Right? I see a lot of anger toward Cross and I understand it from a reactionary standpoint. But Downs is a WR who works over the middle quite often. Getting tackled is part of the job description. It's a football injury that happened while they were practicing.

Yeah unfortunately Simmons about to sign with saints so now we have to deal with this *. Had to show everyone that he would have made that tackle in game.

you are quick on the trigger. Are you his agent? How much is he signing for?

This is one of those "Both sides are probably right" situations.

It's football, it happens. It's also true that Cross had no business making that tackle in 7-7. Not a good look for a player who's struggling to be any good at the job. He's young and it shows with this one.

Agree. I think part of the overwhelming sentiment is because it's Cross and not another player.

If it was Blackmon or JuJu or some other entrenched starter, I think there would be more "it's unfortunate...but it's football." Might even be seen as a positive (not the injury, but the effort) that the Colts aren't messing around this year.

But it's a young, unproven player, so it doesn't get the same benefit of the doubt.

not in 7 on 7 … yu limit contact for a reason … your mind and body is prepared for contact during the season w pads … even josh was more than likely thinking “wth are yu doing Nick?!?”

Nailed it.

Young kid who's struggled. Knows his job is very at risk. Knows of the clamor for a vet. Still trying to level up. As bad as Downs will feel about this, Cross probably feels worse.

Nonetheless, that vet safety help can't come soon enough. That's the reality of the sport, don't wait till tomorrow to do that which must be done today.

When it’s pretty clear that the expectation is don’t tackle during 7 on 7’s, it’s absolutely assinine that Cross made that play and then doubled down on it despite his coach clearly stating those expectations.

So Cross tackles Downs in a 7v7 situation on an 3 yard pass and says “we’re just playing football”? What the #. What an absolute % show. This team cannot have one * nice thing, I swear.

Yeah, that's my problem with it. It wasn't 11 on 11. It was 7v7... You absolutely have to have awareness of the situation.

I didn’t read it as freaking out. I think she just meant we are weak at FS and took a ding on the WR front.

side note - Cross doubles down on the tackle.  Called it “Football”

His response pisses me off because everyone is saying that he knows he shouldn’t have taken him to the ground. I don’t even think tackling was even live for the drill.

We didn’t even tackle during 7V7 in high school. In what world would a pro decide to suddenly do this?

His demeanor reads to me like someone who’s been hearing a bunch of dirt thrown on his name and is angry. However, don’t prove your worth by tackling your own damn teammate.

Young dude whose biggest struggles are mental. This is another big mental faux pas for him. All the physical gifts don't mean squat if the mental game doesn't catch up. The biggest thing with this in jury is the huge mental red flags Cross is once again showing.

Same man. Same. And if you did tackle, it was laps... lot's and lot's of laps.

7 on 7 when I was high school wasn’t technically tackle, but guys were going to the ground when the pads were colliding. It wasn’t two hand touch. People got rocked.

my problem with this, and it’s solely based on what has been reported, is that it doesn’t sound like a hard hit after the catch. It was a full wrap up take down, which is not expected by anyone… and when a pass catcher doesn’t expect to be taken to the ground, an injury can absolutely happen.

I may be the sole pessimist here on this, but a few months might be a dream.

Regardless, we've seen this before... Having a great, or what some have said "dominant," camp and now an injury that may not just sideline him, but linger even if he does come back. Very unfortunate. I'm not one to make rash decisions, but man, this team has to be furious with Nick Cross right now. Justin Simmons value might have just been validated.

Why is that?  You have some info that nobody else has been privy to?

Did I claim something that would lead you to think that? I simply said I may be the pessimist of the bunch here but a few months could be a dream. Meaning it could be worse than what everyone here is saying it will be. We don’t know the extent of it. It could be mild- and that would be fantastic. It could end up being devastating, which would make a few months seem like a dream. Make sense?

edit: It was just announced it was a high ankle sprain… That’s a great thing. Again- I was being pessimistic.

Maybe we dodged a bullet but a month is still a lot.

And a high ankle sprain can linger for an entire season. It sucks, no matter what way we want to look at it.

I’ll still take downs on a bum ankle than not at all.

    • The Colts handed Taylor a boat load of money which is unheard for a running back in today’s NFL.  You don’t do that and take him off the field in crucial situations for Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson.  Shane has done just that in two of the last three games he’s coached.  Not playing maybe your best offensive weapon for a whole fourth quarter is criminal.  Shane is trying to be too cute and over thinking things trying to fool other teams and it’s not working in the slightest.  Play your best players at the most critical points of games.  That’s why you paid them.
    • People come up with the strangest over reactions ever when the Colts lose.
    • I agree 100 Ballard time is up , him and Bradley. You can preach accountability and retain Bradley another year….Ballard loves to say guys just need to hit the layup… he should take his own advice we all knew we needed help in the secondary this year no moves, we all knew we needed help last year at corner , oline year before. I talking about obvious weaknesses media calls him out on it year after year and he plays it off like he smarter than everyone then admit mistakes at the end of year and does the same thing. Bradley doesn’t make any adjustment like he runs what he runs and that it
    • To be honest this is malpractice by Ballard ….. like I know they think us fans are stupid but some of us played sports , coached sports , watched sports etc… we know what we are seeing like everyone knew we needed depth in the second. But Ballard doesn’t bring vets in and makes guys compete for a job he hands them to players he thinks are nice people a deserve a shot. Ala Pinter, NFL is a league where you get what you earn ,you eat what you kill , not what you deserve. Ballard need to take a hard look at him self at look at how other teams that win are built. We need speed at the corner position and a scheme shift. Like no HC under Ballard has been able to pick they DC he normally has one before they get hired and they retain Ballard guy
