RB Evan Hull Update

Deon Jackson cannot be our answer moving forward for the next 3 weeks (assuming Taylor even returns to play for us). He was awful. Yeah the run blocking wasnt great, but even taking that into account, he was just plain bad.

I hope Moss is back next week and ready to play, otherwise we're gonna see even more Deon Jackson for 1 or 2 yard carries.

I'd rather see Funk play after that 1st week perfoemance from Deon.

Moss will be the main answer.  Funk might be promoted to the main roster to replace Hull but I wouldn’t rule out bringing in another vet.

Thinking if Hull goes on i.r then Funk gets called up to the 53 and Huntley elevated on game day.  Huntley avg 42 catches per season his last 3 years at NM state while avg 5.9 yards per carry and posting 2,000 rush yards. Very good speed (4.37 40 yard time) S.S. had him in Philly, we got him last August 9 but he scored a td in prseason.

Huntley has been released from Practice squad.

I like Funk, he can be elevated, like you said if Hull needs an IR stint.

Jackson graded out 58/58 in RB grades from PFF.

Depends on what he wants.

We have between:

$6.9m-$7.8m in cap space currently, depending which site has most accurate numbers. (Usually the $6.9m site, OtC)

Yeah but you and I both know they can magically find more money if they want

Yeah, easily.

Just take a restructure/ or extension. Alie-Cox release/trade.

Potential options.

Extension:

Stewart(could save a little this year with an extension)

Restructure:(if you feel comfortable taking guaranteed monies into future)

Smith(could save close to $10m this season)

Leonard (could save close to $11m this season)

Release/Trade:

Cox(would save $5.31m if traded minus $30k a game he plays for us)(would save $2.92m if released)

I think that if we signed Hunt, it would say that we are giving up on JT, which Irsay is not prepared to say at this point.  Based upon likely salary demands and the fact they both see themselves as starters, I think it has to be either Hunt or JT, but not both.

I'm not sure that the previous visit included a bonified offer, or was more about feeling out where Hunt stands.

So it is your understanding that Cox $4.8M salary isn't fully guaranteed at this time. I thought it is once he was on the opening day roster.

Leonard is at serious risk of being cut after this season so pushing more  dead cap money down the road would be bad.

Grove just might get a new contract in season. He is a bad man.

Good call, I just pulled the number from OtC, not even taking that into consideration.

Still stands for the trade option.

Im surprised because we need bodies this week and Funk is 100% healthy,Moss must be looking real good then Jackson in emergency if Tyler Goodson isnt up to speed.

Yeah little surprised with Huntley being waived for a new back as well. Since in a pinch he could help out this week. Doubt Goodson will be able to help out this week.

Probably weren't planning on bringing either of them up

Hopefully Moss is ready to roll.

I didn't rule it out bc he played in a 1, 2 punch with Nick Chubb so I could see something like that with Taylor at least this year. But then there's an issue with what to do with Moss

Hunt isn’t signing with us because of the thought of JT coming back and being the clear number 1…..

Until JT is traded or activated I highly doubt any RB that is a veteran will sign with the Colts. Moss - Jackson - Funk are our guys until JT is resolved.

Moss,Funk, jackson hopefully.....I never want to see Jackson in the backfield again....it was beyond ugly it was tragic

Seems so for this week. But if the running game does not improve after Houston, I wouldn't be shocked if they made a move... or, I also believe, we are one injury away from a RB signing

I think Hunt wants more than what we want to give. That's is probably why we haven't signed him. I think JRob health maybe more concerning as well with us and other teams. JMO on them.

    • The issue some may have is the kind of journalism where Bob McGinn created an article that affected a young man's career based solely upon anonymous sources.   I'm confident you will reply back referring to your experience as a journalist with some version of 'without anonymous sources, there would be no journalism'. I value reading your insight about how sports are covered and I don't disagree that anonymous sources can be important. Its fair for anonymous sources to give background about things they are not comfortable saying out loud.   However, I'll add that perhaps its also fair for Bob McGinn to use his anonymous sources to help him find the story and craft the story, but if nobody will put their name on it then Bob McGinn needs to dig deeper before he launches infotainment into the world. He can't take back the damage he did to AD Mitchell.
    • So damn classy as always. I still rewatch their pandemic golf game from 2020. They just have awesome chemistry together. Hopefully they can get Tom on the Manningcast again for more hilarity.
    • Uuuugh.     I think it would’ve been better if I had preached a healthy dose of patience and NOT patients.
    • Feel the need to clarify something.   The writer of the article, Bob McGinn, is one of the top-10 football writers there is.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) McGinn does NOT have an opinion on Mitchell.  It’s the unnamed scouts who have the negative opinions.  McGinn is quoting them which is his job.  He is supposed to do that.     Ballard even acknowledged that in his own way.  He literally said “put your name on it!”   Well, McGinn’s name IS on it.  it’s his column.   But it’s the scouts who are saying things anonymously.   If there’s an issue, (if) it’s with them, not McGinn.
    • And when/if a team signs one of those safeties they’ll be made to look like a genius while Ballard is called a fool.    I think what’s more likely is that an injury will inevitably happen and a team will bring in an available free agent. That could be training camp. That could early in the season. You just never know.
