The way this front office churns through the bottom of the roster you’d think some of you would R E L A X and let them do thier work for a couple hours……sheesh

We didn’t sign Aaron Donald of waivers so of course people will have a meltdown.

Expectations/thoughts seem to be that McKenzie will be resigned after Woods goes on IR today.

Makes no sense.  All they had to do was put Woods on IR and leave McKenzie where he is.   Many thought Woods to IR would be one of the moves and yet he’s still on the roster.  So what’s taking so long?

I wonder if they released McKenzie and are asking him to take a pay cut if nobody else signs him?

If they want to bring woods back this year it couldn’t happen  until today.

Its all about the timing of events and when you can place someone on IR with the designation to return. They had to have the 3 roster cuts to make room for the waiver claims before that designation could be made.

I hope so, people have figured out how to stop me on madden lol.  MPJ isn’t good enough to beat the other team best corner, McKenzie has speed but not really good route running, and Pierce can get open with his speed but any contested catch deep he drops it…if AR isn’t overthrowing him.  Which is very weird because the deep ball is/was ARs bread and butter.  Wonder why madden made his deep ball accuracy so low.

It’s all about drags, post and whether or not they are going to play press man. 90% of the field is A.I so play to their weakness lol

Fair. A tremendous amount of unproven players. Again, I am all for shooting for next years first pick. It's a solid plan.

Sills fits Steichen's need for a big road grader G in short yardage. Better for that than Fries by a margin.

Land makes me think of a very poor man's Ngaukee.

Hayes looks like an odd choice, rather him than Skipper I guess.

Colts claim 3 players after roster cutdowns

These are not names you’ve probably heard but that’s to be expected at this point in the year.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had this to say about Sills before the 2022 NFL draft:

Bruising run blocker with the body type and power that should be enticing for offensive line coaches. Sills has been a full-time starter at both West Virginia and Oklahoma State and possesses above-average talent for knocking people around and opening up pathways in the running game. He doesn’t always get to his blocks with the best timing or positioning but often gets the job done regardless. Sills needs to play with much better awareness and range in pass protection or it could remain an exploitable area of his game. The traits and run-blocking talent should give him a shot to become an eventual starter as a Day 3 selection.

So there might be some hope for Sills in the future.

Tackle, Ryan Hayes played his college ball at Michigan before being drafted in the seventh round by the Miami Dolphins. Lance Zierlein had this to say about Hayes before last years draft:

Two-year starter at left tackle for a unit that won consecutive Joe Moore Awards (best offensive line in college football). He’s tall and plays with good technique and strong hands, but Hayes is missing functional length as a tackle. He tough at the point of attack and gets into space with athletic movements but he plays with a slightly elevated pad level that could slow a transition inside to guard. He’s solid in pass protection, but he plays with an average anchor and might not have the range to keep speed rushers from tormenting the pocket. He could become an average player at tackle or guard in the pros.

OLB/Edge, Isaiah Land, playing for FAMU in 2021 Land recorded 25.5 tackles for loss and 19 sacks, which is wild. He was signed by the Cowboys before not making their 53 man roster. Zierlein had this to say about Land:

Historically, a player with Land’s lack of mass and length would face an uphill battle trying to make it as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL, but his ability to threaten the pocket should generate interest from teams. Land is a very natural, instinctive rusher with the get-off, counters and fluidity to stress some tackles. He doesn’t have enough sand in his pants to hold up against the run and teams might try him as a 4-3 outside linebacker with sub-package rush ability off the edge. Land might need a year or two on a practice squad to continue to develop.

It will be interesting to see where and how the Colts use Isaiah Land...

And his production in college indicates he can get after the passer. I suspect he’ll spend some time on special teams but may develop into quite the blitzing specialist given enough time.

that’s what I usually resort to when they shut everything down.  It’s so cheesy lol.  Posts usually work for me too if the line hasn’t broke down.

Ballard said roster mechanics is why there is only 3 WR. It will work out.

You would think people who post on here twelve months of the year would have a better understanding of how roster mechanics work rather than a sky is falling reaction to a roster move. With the change in how cut down days work there is going to be even more massaging of the rosters compared to when there were two cutdown days In previous years.

And there it is.

I guess it was a timing thing. And it had to be a player who isn't subject to waivers. I don't like it for McKenzie, unless they added in a bonus or something, because now his vested contract goes away and if he's released during the season, he doesn't get paid for the rest of the year. But that's none of my business...

Edit: I guess this doesn't affect McKenzie's vested status, because he'll be on the roster as of Tuesday, Week 1. Nice.

I like the Land pickup, when I did my mock draft back in April I had the Colts selecting him in the 5th round. He is extremely fast and very quick. Highly productive, 25 tackles for loss and 19 sacks is outstanding, yea, it was at a small school, but he has nfl ability.

Didn't he have like 7 sacks in preseason. They should  have kept him on 53 man roster

THANK YOU!   All I've been trying to find is the list of players we actually claimed.

I like it, too.  Land strikes me as the quintessential LEO undersized 9 technique edge rusher.  He fits the mold pretty well.  He's been productive.  And he made noise in the preseason, in a locker room already filled with pass rushers.  Still, he's a small school player trying to swim with the NFL fishes.  Let's see what he's able to do.

For who? What?  That's some specialist if he's going to be on the field for all four of the blitzes Gus will call this season.

Yeah, if his expertise is blitzing, maybe he should ask Taylor where he can get one of those hoodies?

Not really. There's young and/or proven drafted talent at literally every position on this football team.  Expansion teams are usually full of veteran castoffs.  This Colts team is one of the youngest in the NFL and barely has anyone over the age of 30, if anyone.

Whether that young talent pans out is another question, but that's the case for every team in every sport that has ever existed when dealing with young players.

I wonder who is going to be the 5th WR on the roster? This feels like one of those small trades Ballard does when he gives up a 6th or 7th rounder for somebody in a trade.

A few of those tes are more wr than te. Keeping an extra te over a wr would isnt that big of a deal in this case.

Right.  They can use all 4 TEs for different sets during a game.  A 5th WR is mainly going to play STs.  That can be covered by another extra position like a CB.

And they can always bring up a WR from the PS when needed.  Makes sense…not like exposing Rush in waivers did, lol.
