Colts Signing Pharaoh Brown

Recommended Posts

Also interesting:

Brown has been “meh” the last two years, but the three years prior he was a pretty solid blocking tight end. In 2020 only he and Jack Doyle (oddly enough) were both top-10 amongst TEs in their run blocking and pass blocking grades.

I'd love to be able to trade Cox and a 7th for a 6th at this point just to get a better draft pick. Ballard has hit on 6th round picks before.

Im super excited to see what Ogletree does. I like this signing Also as I think Mo shouldn't have been retained.

But who was the driving force? Was it Reich? Sure seems that way

Good leverage for blocking lol. I think he is a run support signing for sure.

Yes run support but blocking and being a safety valve for a rookie QB is probably more important?

No problem with the signing, but when I read about "blocking" tight ends I wonder what coaches and the off-season are for these days. Woods and Ogletree, with their size, should be transformed into blocking tight ends by next season if they want to play in the NFL.

Friendly reminder to those who are unimpressed with this signing…..

Jack Doyle, was himself an undrafted free agent.  Tennessee signed him after the draft.   Then, eventually cut him.   The Colts with Grigson as GM, signed him.

The reminder is that good players can be found in the bargain isle.  It happens every year.

Jeff Saturday as well, or is it too soon to use him as an example? Lol…

Just another Ballard garbage heap find.

So by your sarcastic comment, do you think all nfl rosters shouldn't have cheaper players to fill a roster? Just a reminder, there is a salary cap.

can we move on from Mo Cox now?

Why move on now?   There’s a 90 man roster currently.   Maybe Cox takes to the new coaches and system?   There’s plenty of time to cut him if they want.

Or….  Maybe they’ll cut him tomorrow and you’ll get your wish.

What difference does it make? He is under contract and should have the chance to keep his roster spot through training camp and pre season.  He is guaranteed so let him stick around and earn it.

Not all of his contract is guaranteed

If Cox is cut now, the Colts take a $2.4m dead cap hit.   I don’t know about if it’s designated a post June 1 cut.

But if he can survive one more year, and he might, cutting him in 24 has zero penalty.   None.

The time frame makes no difference. I'm pretty confident Ballard has it under control. 2.4 million cap hit regardless if he is cut now or at the end of TC and pre season.

he hasn't really produced anything, not even as a blocker. He is certainly overpaid.

Maybe he takes a pay cut

FWIW:

Pharroh Brown was reportedly signed about a week or so ago.

But…. as of today,  he is NOT on the Colts roster.   Hang up on the signing?   Flunked a physical?   I don’t know?

He’s also not on the salary roster of either Spotrac or Over The Cap.   Hope the Colts can straighten things out.

This was announced last week that they didn’t expect the signing to be official until something like April 9th

    • Mark it down, several will be hurt by August 3rd.
    • Exactly, as long as we are healthy going into opening day then that is all that matters.    By the way, that is one of the best and funniest posts I have seen all year in here, I have to give it a Homer laugh
    • Era's are so different, it would seem LeBron could play in any era and be dominant but in the 80's and 90's the game was way more physical. How would LeBron do against a team like the 1989 Pistons for example? We don't know?, if they allowed the Pistons play by the rules they played with back then.    Regarding the Pacers their 1998 team was the best IMO. We had the Bulls beat in Game 7, I still believe we got screwed by the REFS. Whether or not we would have beat Utah is a different subject but that would have been a hell of a series. Utah would have had HCA.
    • Yeah I try not to let my Colts bias get in the way when I do lists, it is tough sometime. I can understand why anyone would say Randy should be ranked higher. Randy was a freak and was so tall, a QB could just throw a long one to him and on 50/50 balls, he would catch it.    I have gone back and forth over the years regarding Peyton and Tom. My Colts bias says Peyton is the GOAT, he is also my favorite player of all-time so I hate, let me repeat I hate putting Tom #1. I just factor in everything but saying Peyton is #3 isn't a dis , that is practically saying he is damn near the GOAT. I have Montana 2nd because I felt like during the 80's which had all kinds of great teams, he won 4 SB's and was flawless in those SB's. You don't get anymore clutch than him.   I get the Emmitt Smith hate on this board, most here hate the Cowboys but once again when ranking players people should put that aside IMO. Otherwise the list becomes who somebody loves and hates.
