yeah that’s called a sack you fool.    Funny how none of these close calls go against Brady they always go his way.  Just put a red shirt on him and say no touching and be done with it.   By the way Boger had a controversial roughing the passer call last week as well.

That might have been the worst penalty call I have ever seen.  There is absolutely no rational explanation for call that roughing the passer.

Ridiculous, At some point, the league has to realize the integrity of competition gets compromised when officials step in with a call like that.

Always something

Illegal contact

Defensive holding

While his DB our saddled up all over our WRs

Not surprised as you pointed out Brady ALWAYS gets calls like this but this isn’t the first time Boger has had horrible calls like this.  He had another controversial one last week.  The man just doesn’t know the rules and needs to be relieved of his duties.

That's on Grady... Honestly should've politely asked him to just lay down on the ground. A veteran should be better...

He forgot the tackling Tom Brady rule “tackling Tom Brady on the defense.  Automatic loss of game and kicked out of the league.”

Here’s the thing in order for Boger’s point to hold up he would have had to blow the play dead.  If you watch the replay he clearly doesn’t until after Brady is down.  Until then that’s called tackling.  We all remember Eli Manning breaking free and throwing the helmet catch because he wasn’t called in the grasp.  So unless the official blows the play dead you have to make sure the QB is down.  Just a ridiculous call.

Tuck rule was another.

That explanation by Boger, a long-time ref, makes absolutely no sense. He needs to explain it more. The only thing that may be considered roughing could be that when Brady was sacked, his head appeared to hit the ground. Maybe Boger meant to call unnecessary roughness?? :dunno:

I've seen Cam Newton get hit much worse than that and roughing was not called.

Again, officiating in the nfl has been a joke forever. Sorry, the refs influence the outcomes of way too many games. That one holding call on Raimann Thursday night was complete crap.(not to mention Mcleod's pi haha). That is one thing the nfl will NEVER fix- pathetic officiating, they need it to get the results they want. The NBA is just the same and MLB isn't far behind.

This is not even mentioning the Falcons stopped them again on 3rd down a few plays before that Brady was gifted a defense hold on.. so the Falcons were giving Brady treatment TWICE on the drive

I expect those things to happen, unfortunately.

Just been what it has been for so long. Golden boy can't get out of here quick enough.

They say you'll miss greatness when it's gone.

No...no, I don't think I will.

A call like that yesterday is why people question whether games are rigged or not. The NFC Title Game when the Rams got away with a PI against the Saints in 2018 is another. That cost the Saints an NFC Championship win. The Steelers/Seahawks SB was terrible, Seahawks got called for at least 2 bogus penalties that killed their momentum. When we played the Steelers in 1995 that was a jip job as well. Kordell runs out of bounds and the replay shows the ref looking right at it, comes back in and catches a TD. There was no replay then so the REFS back then could call anything they wanted no matter what.

That gifted Brady and the Patriots a SB win too, IMO. Goff has never been the same since the SB loss, teams have figured how flustered he gets with pressure and tight coverage and no wonder Sean McVay moved away from him. Hands down, Brees and Sean Payton would have given Brady and Belichick all they could handle if the Patriots played the Saints in the SB in 2018.

And certainly more than 3 points haha

Yep, the vaunted Lions and Jared Goff managed how many, 0 points, in a 0-29 loss vs a Bailey Zappe led Patriots? That 3rd string QB Rodgers talked about is playing well enough but the Patriots' OL with 6 OL and max. protect is putting on a clinic.

JB called this roughing the passer the week before.

Belichick dismantled Goff and McVay offense to their every minute detail.

Wasn't surprised by the way detroit lost to the Pats, but I'd think with Amon-ra, Swift and other hurt players healthy back again Lions offense would be fun to watch this season.

    • Yeah... Richardson needs players who can separate and who can get open deep. IMO "give the inaccurate QB a contested catch receiver with large catch radius" is one of the tropes that hasn't proven to work well. Contested catches have about 50-55% success rate even with the best of contested catch receivers and with relatively accurate QBs... now if you think AR's accuracy is not good, drop that rate even more. The best way to give a relatively inaccurate QB better chance to complete passes is to give him a WR who separates and and who is open so the QB would have more of a margin for error to throw the ball a little behind or ahead or a little higher or lower than ideal. (we are not talking about uncatchable balls here... those will be uncatchable for anyone really). In that regard, one thing I would agree about is - we need WRs who have good hands and have good ball skills.   And this is ignoring that AR has indeed been pretty good with his accuracy on passes at intermediate and long range. His biggest problem coming into the league was the short stuff and he was already showing improvements in that deparment before he got injured.    And Worthy is the WR who created the most separation from anybody in this draft :
    • Richardson  accuracy  on deep balls is his strength.  Hence why you pair an elite deep threat in worthy.
    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
