Colts Vs. Falcons Game Day Thread

NFL Game Day in Indianapolis is finally here,  Colts Nation!  :)  Our 1-1 and 2019 Indianapolis Colts are back in Downtown Indianapolis as they host the Atlanta Falcons in the first of four NFC South interdivisional opponents the Colts will play during the 2019 NFL Regular Season. Atlanta is playing a regular season game for the first time in Indianapolis in eight years, and Sunday afternoon's game is the 17th all-time meeting between the teams.

14 Colts players are listed in the final pregame injury report including Jacoby Brissett participating in practices last week with their knee and quad injuries. Falcons had six players listed in their injury report.

After two games the Colts are #2 in the NFL in Rushing Offense, and yards, led by  Marlon Mack with his 225 yards.   Also an interesting battle of quarterbacks, with the Colts Jacoby Brissett and the Falcons Matt Ryan leading their offenses. Atlanta offense also is sparked by WR Julio Jones and RB Devonta Freeman.

Indianapolis by far has the most current  winning percentage over Atlanta than any NFL opponent to start their home schedule of the regular season.   Colts lead the series at 14-2, and with their .875 percentage over the Falcons after 16 games.  Colts probably would have had a record of 15-1 instead when  the Falcons last visited Indianapolis.   Colts QB  Peyton Manning  though was sidelined the entire 2011 NFL regular  season because of his neck surgeries, along with Manning being placed the Franchise Tag.

Indianapolis will certainly perform better than they did when they played Atlanta at Lucas Oil Stadium (the building) back on November 6, 2011.  Falcon's Matt Ryan outdueled the Colts Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky with completing 14 of his 24 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.  Two of his TD's were in the air to Julio Jones from 50 and 80 yards, and 1 yard to Tony Gonzalez.  Defensive back Jerraud Powers 6-yard interception return for a TD in the second quarter, was the only score for the Colts as Atlanta defeated Indianapolis 31-7.

Indianapolis avenged their loss when they defeated Atlanta in their last regular season visit to the  Georgia Dome back on November 22, 2015.  Colts QB Matt Hasselbeck threw two separate TD passes from 7 yards and 2 yards to Ahmad Bradshaw, plus a 6-yard INT return by Colts LB D'Qwell Jackson, to help the Colts tie the game at 21-21 with 10:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.  Adam Vinatieri kicked  43-yard  game-winning field goal  with 8  seconds remaining, to help the Colts defeat the Falcons 24-21.

Andrew Catalon and former GB Packers wide receiver and Hall-Of Famer James Lofton announce the live TV game commentary for the NFL On CBS' early regional double header game, seen regionally, and locally in Indianapolis on WTTV Channel 4, live on HD.

LOS's retractable roof could be closed to keep everyone inside cool and comfortable, for this afternoon's 1:05 PM Eastern Standard Time kickoff, because mostly cloudy skies at 84 degrees, feels like 85 degrees, is the gamecast outside the stadium area, along with 15% precipitation, 47% humidity, and southwest winds at 15 miles per hour.

Head Linesman Alex Kemp leads his NFL officiating crew to supervise the live game action on the LOS playing field between the Colts and Falcons.

NO injuries the Colts and Falcons players. Let's all see the Colts  win their second game of the season in front of your loyal fans at LOS, Go Blue Horseshoe, and GO COLTS!!!!   :cheer:  :coltslogo:    :1colts:  :colts:  :coltshelmet:  :coltslogo:  :cheer:    :D

Hahaha...this really is a loose and happy bunch.  Hope they play out of their minds today to open up the homestand.  I can't even predict a score, but I'm thinking we win this one.

Thanks again, LOS for setting the table for us.  Let's get a win, boys!

Go COLTS!  All day.  Every day.  :coltshelmet:

    • Idk if there’s a Leonard like player in this draft, so I think going day 3 is fine. LB is like TE for me. I think it’s mostly a traits based position, so you draft and develop. Look at EJ Speed; sixth round pick from Tarleton who has played great.   And when you factor in the scheme variance you mentioned, LB isn’t worth drafting high. If I were Ballard I’d draft two day 3 LBs and add 1-2 FA vets.
    • Probably something close to what Gilmore signed with the Colts. I guess it'll depend on how high his market is and how long he has to sit and wait to sign somewhere. I'm assume he'll sign something close to 12-15 million per year.
    • This is a story I saw about 6 months ago and sat on it until now — draft season.    There was an interesting story in a Bucky Brooks column and it might be Colts related.   He says he surveyed every team that runs a 4-3 defense and for half of them linebacker is now a deeply discounted position, the way RB is on offense.   The story says that for those teams linebacker is now only a Day 3 draft pick.  They will no longer spend a Day One or Day Two pick on LB.      The column did not break things down by team, so no way to know who thinks this way until the next draft when we see which 4-3 team spends only a Day 3 pick on LB.    Part of the thinking is this….  If a typical game has 65 snaps for the defense, a 4-3 team is only in their base defense roughly 12-15 snaps a game.  Thats it.  The rest of the time 4-3 teams are pulling LBers for more DBs.    Teams are running a 4-2-5, or 4-1-6 or 4-0-7.   So linebackers become much less important in a 4-3 defense.     If Ballard spends a day 2 pick in LB, then he’s trying to replace Leonard.  But if not, if he spends only a Day 3 pick on LB, then CB has had a change of philosophy and has joined other teams in this new defensive thinking.    We’ll know in two months.
    • Nah. I’ll respond to whatever anyone posts on here, just like you did mine. Are you a cop? If not, you’re missing a hell of an opportunity. You’d be great.   lets see- on this thread there has been a meme about cowboys football, posts about Brock Purdy, and other irrelevant discussions. You didn’t mind those, but you comment on mine? Which if you go back and read, is colts related. You posted a meme of eating popcorn. Lol… The thread is about key dates, which were listed in the first post. Nothing more regarding those dates on this thread. lol. Get outta herrre.
