Reality's 1st 2018 Mock

Recommended Posts

Just taking a quick look at what we can do to fix up the Roster. I think ultimately all of this will start after we sign our coach and decide on our schemes. Overall, I will be prediciting that the Colts will sign Kris Richard (DC, Seattle Seahawks) To be their next headcoach and will be running a Zone 4-3 Defensive Scheme.

Starting Cap: 82.3 Mil (Spotrac)

Re-signings:

- OG Jack Mewhort 2 years $13 Million - 5 Million g'td ($6.5M/year) - Mewhort is good when not injured, a key piece to the OL. The issue is he is often injured. The injury concerns will likely drive down his value, but the Colts should still consider bringing him back on a short 'prove it' deal. As if he can stay healthy he will likely play up to the contract and help bolster the otherwise weak OL. $6.5M annually places him in the top 17-15 area in avg salaries for guards, a safe value for Mewhort.

- CB Rashaad Melvin 3 years $24 Million - 14 Million g'td ($8M/year) - This is fair value for Melvin, who played very fell for much of 2017, though had a couple of injuries and a very inconsistent past. Despite this the market for CB's is very rich which may lead to him getting more on the open market. Melvin would fit very well back as a top #2 CB or a relatively good interim #1 whilst the young Defensive backfield ages.

CB Pierre Desir 2 years $4.5 Million - 2 Million g'td ($2.25M/year) - A nice depth CB who played well down the stretch in 2017.

- OG Micheal Person 1 year $1.2 Million - Depth signing for the OL.

- S Darius Butler 1 Year $2 Million - Darius is a great player and guy and not only fits in nicely as a 3rd or 4th safety but can also fill in in a pinch as a nickel CB.

- OLB Barkevious Mingo 2 Years $4.5 Million (2.25M/Year) - Played well as a EDGE rusher showing a lot of the athleticism which is why he was originally drafted top 10. He's good a good depth rusher who should be brought back if he's cheap enough.

- TE Brandon Williams 1 Year 1.75 Million - Depth

- K Adam Vinaterri 1 Year 2.5 Million - Bring em back.

Overall, I see us letting Frank walk for a specific reason (as you'll soon see). It's time to get younger in the backfield to grow as a collective unit. I think it's key to bring Melvin back even if it's somewhat pricey. He's a really solid piece who played lights out for a lot of last year. The rest are smaller signings who should be brought back if at the right price, though it won't be the end of the world if they aren't brought back.

Cap: 60.1 Million

Free Agency:

- Andrew Norwell 5 Years $55 Million ($11M/Year) 26 M Gt'd - Norwell played exceptionally well last season, recently being named an All-pro. Norwell is a tremendous run blocker who would do wonders to the OL. Plugging Norwell in with Kelly, AC, and a healthy Mewhort is a very decent start to repairing the OL. Carolina is tight on money so Norwell is likely to see the open market, furthermore they have already paid Trai Turner a huge contract. This deal is very similar to Turners and makes Norwell one of the top paid guards in the game.

- E.J. Gaines 3 Years $31.5 Million ($11.5 Million/Year) 15.5 Mill Gt'd - Gaines has quitely put together a fantastic season for the Bills. Gaines has thrived since being traded into the Bills zone scheme. Gaines is only 25 and is going to be paid this free agency. He was PFF's 8th best cornerback and was considered one of the strongest parts of the Bills strong pass defence.

- ILB Demario Davis 3 Years 27 Million ($9 Million/Year) 13 Gt'd - Davis has quietly been one of the best Linebackers in the league for the Jets. He racked up over 135 tackles, and ranked as pff's 6th best ILB. At 28, he's still got a lot more left in the tank and could be a great fit in the middle of our defense.

- WR Allen Robinson 1 Year $9.5 Million - Robinson is a very talented player, though he has been disappointing since his sophomore season. Furthermore, he is coming off a ACL tear. Despite this is he is large target who is very athletic and if playing up to his full abilities would be a great addition to the offence. The contract is a one year prove it deal identical to the deal Alshon Jefferey signed last off-season.

- OLB Tahir Whitehead 3 Years 18 Million ($6 Million/Year) 6 Gt'd - A nice fit in the 4-3 system. Whitehead started the season out much better then he ended it. It may be time for Detriot to move on.

Cap:

Draft:

Trade! With Darnold and Rosen going 1 and 2, the Colts actively tell both the Jets and the Broncos that the other is jetting up to try and attain Josh Allen at 3rd overall so the Jets trade up, offering both their 1st (6th), 2nd (37th) and Comp. 3rd (107):

1: Bradley Chubb, EDGE, NC State

Gifted rusher who can come in day one and elevate the level of pass rush. Chubb fits nicely into the new 4-3 scheme, and will be a blue chip building block on our defence. Chubb is a giften player with a good mix of both size and speed, at 6'4 he is a physical monster.

2: Nick Chubb, RB, Georgia

Chubb is a physical runner who many experts feel as if could be a day 2 RB steal who straight out outperforms his competition from sheer effort. Chubb averaged 7.1 yards per carry. Adding Chubb to a young backfield with Marlon Mack and Christine Michael will provide the Colts a much younger backfield then they have ever had before.

2: Orlando Brown, OT, Oklahoma

Brown is a gifted run blocker who uses his physicality to win at the point of attack. At 6'8 260, he's a huge man. He can sometimes struggle athletically against speed rushers and athletic defensive ends. Brown could slide right into the RT position and could round out to be a very good player if he fixes up his pass protection.

3: Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis

Miller is a 5'11, 190 WR who is a good route runenr, with above average quickness and good hands. He was very productive for Memphis and has the tools to be a very good slot or outside WR.

3: Jerome Baker, OLB, Ohio State

Physical, athletic 4-3 OLB. Baker has lots of potential in pass coverage, he's got decent size at 6'1 but great speed with a projected 40 of 4.5-4.6 range. Baker could fit right into the 4-3 scheme and grow into a great piece.

4: D.J. Reed, CB, Kansas St.

Smaller, speedier CB who could potentially grow into a nice slot CB. He's also very good on special teams so he could play there while he develops.

5: Folrunso Fatukasi, DT, Connecticut

Fatukasi is a physical DT who is quite athletic for his size.

6: Taylor Hearn, G, Clemson

Many teams reportedly aren't high on Hearns despite his raw potential. He's been a 2 year starter for Clemson and has played well, despite this they don't like the fact that he came out early and feel as if it's a risky pick. Hearns is ideal size and is a above average run blocker.

7: Jordan Scarlett, RB, Florida

Scarlett is a very talented player who enjoyed a breakout sophmore season. He's physical and runs downhill but still has impressive speed and quickness. Scarlett is a big question mark though because of the fact he was suspended all of 2017 due to a credit card scandal.

I’d like to see us grab another online men, preferably a do it all, just to have some depth. I don’t trust Mewhort or Vujnovich.

Mewhort is a great player but with those knee problems I think he calls it quits. As for Vujnovich he sucks I would cut him cant play worth of crap.

Mewhort is injured to the point where he is considering retirement, i dont even think a prove it deal is worth it at this point, Butler is one of the oldest players on the team and with Ballard wanting to get younger i dont see him getting another contract, i would try to get Melvin for cheaper, if he doesnt take it let him walk. He is not a top tier corner, not worth 8 mil a year.

I like most of your draft, but instead of Miller, I'd like to see Colts draft Simmie Cobbs, Jr.  He's a large target with great hands, can come in and learn under TY and eventually become a focus of the WR corps.  Otherwise, the rest of the draft, I'd be happy with.

Id keep Moncrief he is the only red zone threat we have had besides tight ends TY disappears he is a guarantee 6-8 touchdowns per season with Luck under center In 2016 in Green Bay the back shoulder throw to moncrief on the goal line was the play I realized he is our best bet inside the 20 and should be kept here for a long time

If Chubb is still there at 6 then he tested badly at the combine.  If he tested badly at the combine I want no part in him.

If you are gonna go for a latter round back and not take Barkley then why would you spend a high second (pretty much a first) on a way way lesser back.  Makes 0 sense.

Brown being in the 2nd is stretch to begin with but to be there after our first pick?

No way Miller even sniffs the third.

The free agency section has hope but the draft section is off.

Chubb could test well and still fall to 6 if quarterbacks go 123....then Barkley/Fitzpatrick

Ah I see.  I just think if he tests even decent it's gonna be crazy if he makes it to 6.  As it's really his only question except his college coaching. But you are right it is possible.

I could easily see Chubb slipping to 6 even if he tests decently/well. Look at the top 3 (given NYJ Trade) - Cleveland, Jets and Giants, and Broncos all have needs at QB. The only other pick in the middle is Cleveland at 4 which I strongly believe would be Barkely. Chubb makes no sense at 5 to Denver, and I really don’t imagine him being picked at 4 as opposed to Saqoun.

Didn’t take Barkely at three because of my belief in Chubb and the trade. Move down and get a couple more picks while still attaining a player close in caliber to the player at 3? Sign me up.

I would jump all over Chubb in the 2nd as I think he’s got a ton of potential. This kid could be the Kareem Hunt of this draft based on effort and skillset. Would you rather have Barkley and a 2nd or Chubb x2 with an additional second (and third). Thats why I’d take (Nick) Chubb in the 2nd.

As for Brown this is where he’s projected to land early second, and as for the argument of it being the ladder of the 2 2nds I’d point out that their actually right beside eachother (36&37) so I don’t see any argument there.

If he tests well and is still there at 4 then surely Cleveland snatch him up instantly. Putting him on that line with Shelton and Garrett would cause opposition quarterbacks fits.

Cleveland could go a bunch of different ways. They could take Barkley, for example.
