Zack Moss appreciation thread

I'll be honest, I hated it when we traded Hines and I saw Moss as just a throw in in the trade and man was I wrong. Talk about single-handedly winning the game. We need a nickname for our new RB tandem. Bam-Bam?

Zack looked really solid. Helped us big time in this victory. He needs to be in a timeshare with Taylor even when he's healthy. Moss has been that good.

To me, Moss has earned the starting role until he doesn’t. Means I’d make JT earn his starting spot back. And that doesn’t look to be easy

So you want to bench AR and JT? Some hot takes from you today.

With that said, great game from Moss. Finally found a really good spell back for JT. No more Hines up the middle for a cloud of dust.

Moss  has been averaging over 5 yards per carry since he came back healthy, that was before today.  I never said bench JT, I said make him earn his starting spot. Moss has been playing very well.

He will be a great spell back for JT. However, once JT gets his legs and wind back, it won't be close.

Really? Are you just being a negative Nancy today? I mean when, which will be pretty quickly. He looked well on his way today.

No, I’m just saying IF JT returns to form, which form is it going to be? 2021 or 2022’s? I hope he returns to 2021 cause 2022 wasn’t that great even pre injury

The offensive line this year is back to near 2021 form vs bottom feeder 2022 line. That may have played a role along with his ankle. Should the line keep up this effort, JT will shine.

Yup. Not to ignore the quality of back that we know and expect JT to be, there has to be some level of turmoil in both the locker room/ coaching staff and also the fan base due to the way that JT's agent agent advised and allowed this to become a media circus.  No matter how valuable the player, that was certainly not an example of how to go about your 'get the bag' mentality.  Anything less a division title & playoff victory still leads me to believe he'll be traded.

No?

I agree that JT should be able to earn it back no problem.

The make him earn it approach is the correct approach, imo. Which won’t really be that noticeable anyway, like you said he will need a few weeks to get his legs back anyway.

I looked up his stats.  Moss was averaging 4.2 ypc before today.  After today, he's averaging 5.0.

I wouldn’t go that far

I wouldn't think you would know, or have the capacity to give give him the credit deserved.

I don't believe Edge ever had a 50 yarder where he out ran them.

But to simplify, Edge ran that hard, bounced off would be tacklers at the line of scrimmage, often behind, but rarely lost yards. A caveman should be able to see the similarity.

Ummm, might wanna go look at some of my other posts where I’ve been singing his praises.

that said, Edge was special and yes, I saw that first hand. Moss is not the same, maybe at times, similar in some ways, but not the same. Nor is JT.

but that does not mean Moss is not good, he is. And I think he’s underrated a great deal. But he’s not on Edges level, yet.

Moss plays similar to how Edge did.

If you watch Moss run only 4 or 5 times (like I saw him in BUF), its easy to see that he tends to run with "forward lean" like Edge did (a Bill Polian term) which gives him good power and balance after taking a hit.  RBs like that also tend to fall forward when being tackled.  It also helps with pass blocking.  A lot of RBs don't have that natural lean, including JT.  And he's shifty, so he doesn't get hit directly.

I was surprised by his speed today.

You gotta wonder if he may decide that he doesn’t want to be a backup here long-term. And I can’t blame him. He’s earning a shot right now. He’s not married to here, he came in as part of a trade. If Ballard got a solid offer for him and it gave him a chance to be a featured guy somewhere I could see a deal getting done.

Moss has blown away my wildest expectations for him.  Look at what the 49ers do with their two headed monster at running back.  Granted neither Taylor or Moss is the pass catcher Deebo is but it could be what the Colts end up trying to be like on offense with Taylor and Moss staring in the backfield.

    • I guess the whole question is the merits of the report. You report on his diabetes with tons of guesses and speculations and WITHOUT taking the side of the person who's been affected here and who's living and dealing with that condition. You report on the player being uncoachable WITHOUT taking the opinion of his coaches about being coachable or not(and BTW from what I've heard both from Colts and Texas coaches, this is resoundingly NOT TRUE). You report about him being immature and honestly, everything I've seen on the surface suggests the opposite. You report about his combine performance by giving it a pretty harsh reading(the video is in this thread and the account of what happened by McGinn is in this thread... People can actually go and look at what happened and make their own mind about whether the characterization of that workout was fair or not. I will just say you can represent the player stumbling in a drill and going again in various different ways and McGinn chose a specific way to represent it. It was the most negative way you could choose).    You know I had my own reservations about that outburst by Ballard at the presser, but the more I'm learning about Mitchell the more I actually believe in what Ballard was saying and the less merit those reports have in my mind. Maybe I have my own unconscious biases too, now that I have vested interest in Mitchell actually being good for us. I don't know     I guess ultimately none of it matters. AD's success or failure won't depend on some pre-draft reports... it will depend on how he handles himself from now on, how hard he works, his drive to be great and our staff's ability to get the best of him.
    • Hmmm.   ”Healthy excuses will be hard to come by.”    Really?   Richardson, who had less than a thousand snaps in college, then had roughly 200 snaps his rookie year.  There’s one.   And Houston has Stroud who had a great rookie year.  Aren’t most media predicting Houston and JVille ahead of Indy this year?  That’s two without any trouble.     I just think insisting on a division title because a fan thinks it’s time doesn’t stand up to much scrutiny.   Sorry, just my two cents…. And often not worth that much.
    • For me absolutely it does. If Richardson stays healthy excuses will be hard to come up with. As positive as I am with Ballard at some point we have to start winning. He bet on himself by bringing in his own home grown talent this year, what he does at safety in the coming month and a half has me worried as well. We were so close to winning the division last year with a back up QB that my expectation is winning the AFC south this year.    If they make it into the wild card game and lose then the seat is just as hot for me. If they advance further and make a Cinderella run then I’m fully back on board.
    • 3 straight losses for the Reds. They have their moments where they play well. But it’s time to be real. They aren’t a playoff team and will never be as long as the Castillinis own them and David Bell is manager.    De La Cruz is fun, but his career will be wasted on this team.
    • Am I reading this correct?   You think Ballard’s seat gets hot if the Colts don't win the AFC South?  Really?   So if the Colts don’t win the south but make the playoffs Ballard’s seat still gets hot?    Just making sure I understand your viewpoint.
