Dude was always overrated as a pass rusher. Good run stuff but way to inconsistent as a pass rusher. Browns like the Titans will regret signing him soon.

I would gender agree with this, but it all depends on how much he signs for.

Well at least for the Browns all he needs to do is help Myles Garrett, and be a good second, instead of being the main guy

Whenever I see a tweet or some other report talking about our “interest” in some player it makes me wonder...   and think.

1.   We typically don’t leak.

2.   So who’s is leaking our interest?

3.   Either an agent trying to drive up interest...   (maybe Clowney’s agent).  Or...

4.   Another team trying to drive up interest.  (Like the Eagles with Wentz).

I doubt we sign him but i do think he would be an upgrade here

Our DE room is Muhammad, Banogu and Turay

We need more than that

You are most likely right about not signing him.  But it is interesting that we are keeping tabs on him.  Not many here want him but Ballard seems to be still interested even after having Houston on the team for two years.  He might have them valued closely for all we know.  That said I think the Browns will be willing to pay more than Ballard.  That we can pretty much count on.  No doubt the Browns think they can win it this year and they view Clowney as another playmaker they are willing to add.  Another interesting development for sure.

Even at Houston's age, Houston is a better pass rusher. I hope we bring Houston back for 1 year.

At Houston's age there is also a good chance he won't be able to achieve his numbers from last year.  I would rather sign Clowney given the choice.  I think there is a good chance Houston signs elsewhere too.  You notice no players are clamoring for his return like they were for TY and Rhodes.  It might come down to plan C for Ballard.

Plan PT

You don't like him as a person?

A lot of people seem to say that about him.  Hes never been in trouble for behavior, he did get a one game suspension for a hit I think.

Hes not exactly the most likable personality but I dont need that from a defensive end.  I would have been glad to see him come here, considering our current DE situation.  I think hes better than Turay, Muhammad and Banagu.  There is no one on the roster that is hands down better than him

How quickly fans forget that Ballard said..."The locker room is watching".

What about it?  JC has not been a locker room problem to my knowlegle

Tbh Wentz upset his own locker room last year more than Clowney ever has

I'm talking about aggressively going after FA's not being re-signed by other teams. Clowney has been available to sign more than once in his career. Why has he not stuck?

The reason is injuries.  I would not have expected more than a one year if we made an offer.

The deal he got with the Browns isn't cheap but it's not outrageous either.  Close to what Houston got last year

To be fair JC has not had a good year since 2018, he is still only 28 as well.

Exactly. That is not the message I want the Colts GM to send to the locker room.....that we overpay players who haven't lived up to their contracts elsewhere.

His name got him 10 million, his production gets him the NFL minimum..

His knee injury history (and type) takes him completely out of the discussion for me, period.

Sep 7, 2014  Knee Meniscus Tear, Clowney underwent surgery for a torn lateral meniscus in his knee.

Nov 23, 2014 Knee Meniscus Tear, Clowney missed the final 5 games of the season dealing with complications from his September surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.

Dec 8, 2014  Knee repair,  Clowney had knee microfracture surgery to regrow cartilage (this is always a big red flag to me).

Jan 23, 2017 Knee Strain Grade 1, Clowney underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the 2016 season.

Jan 8, 2018 Knee Strain Grade 1 , Clowney underwent arthroscopic knee surgery shortly after the 2017 season ended.

Dec 2, 2020 Knee Meniscus Repair , Clowney underwent meniscus knee surgery ending his 2020 season.

you mean like Wentz lol.  JC did live up to his contract in 17-18, then had some down years similar to our QB

    • I’d like Crossby!   I really like Mitchell, but I just don’t see more youth being a good thing for our CB room. Even if the Sneed thing is made up I still think we should go for a vet.    I hope we can get Cooper in the 2nd. I’d prefer a WR (or Bowers) at 15, but right now I think we’re looking at DE.    Powers-Johnson looks greats, but of all the things we could do I think OL is probably the least likely at 15.    Lots of needs. Safety is probably the biggest, but I don’t think any of them are worth the 15th overall.
    • @Solid84   Still holding out hope we trade our R1P15 to LV for Maxx Crosby give them draft capital to move up for their QB.    If we sit at P15, draft CB Quinyon Mitchell.  Latest report seen was the Colts haven't even talked trade for Sneed.  False news, who knows, time will tell?    If Mitchell is gone before P15 then see a trade back and draft WLB Edgerrin Cooper or OL Jackson Powers-Johnson.
    • I like it overall, but I don't think there's a snowballs chance in hell we're drafting Kinchens after his atrocious Combine. With a RAS of 2.27 he's not even a blip on Ballard's radar lol.
    • Sorry late to the party line chat on Page 57 of 94   Skyy Moore, deleted that draft class and notes but Moore seemed to have some potential but wasn't sold on him.  Viewed Moore as an average receiver not much more.  I wouldn't trade for him.   If you were looking to trade for any WR, I would suggest targeting the Packer's Dontayvion Wicks.    As for some of these other comments that I have read up and not going to ready through 30 pages.  Colts spent 200M on most of their own (top NFL) players,    Recent news I saw is that the Colts haven't had any communication talks about trading for Sneed.  How true that is or not to be seen.  Seems the Colts have done a lot spending 200M on their own and doubt we have much cap space left to sign a big-name player like Sneed.  Still haven't seen latest cap space figures since our latest signing.     The Colts build through the draft and those expectations will not change this season.  Again, our organization was lucky enough to sign some of our best positional players.  Sadly, not everyone can get resigned and do expect Blackmon to move on.  Latest rumor is Blackmon signs with the Bills.
    • The problem is Ballard drafts traitsy raw guys more often than not, so by the time AR is ready we likely won't know if the guys he drafted are IT. That issue then gets compounded by Ballard not using FA to bring in guys who work NOW. THEN if the guys he drafts miss, we'll be waiting another 2-4 years on the next batch... see the problem?   That's fair I guess, but Armstead and Huff were signed for ~$17m/year.   Huff was the 2nd most efficient pass rusher IN THE LEAGUE in 2023 behind only Micah Parson - that's better than Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, Nick Bosa you name 'em. For $17m that's worth taking a shot at, because even if he only produces at a good level he'd still likely be a Jonathan Greenard who signed for $19m. IF he works out though he'd be the bargain of the decade.   Armstead has already played with Buckner and he would be a big upgrade over Grover Stewart for $4m more per year than what we signed Grover for.
