Hmm, so pretty much what many of us have been saying the whole time.

If the Colts want him, he'll be back next year.  If not, he's not uprooting his family and moving again.

Well, he is moving if he doesn't get resigned. I think it has more to do with the available situations and how their line stacks up to ours. No team with a good OL other than us would even consider him.

Well, yeah he would be moving back "home".  I meant that he isn't taking his family to another city for a single year.

What other team with a top 3 OL (Which he requires because he can't jog anymore) would even want to sign him?

Kinda pointless thread.

We all know you want Wentz and a 7 win season next year.

I never suggested Wentz. I think its either Eason, Stafford, or something like that. I don't know about Wentz, but I guess a lot of people are talking about it for a reason. After what Pederson did tonight, it might not be an issue with Wentz. Also, I would never want a 7 win season; not quite sure why you felt the need to say that.

Also by adding, "We all know" shows you are fishing for validation. Just eh.

I like Rivers and he had an okay season for the most part. But if we have a shot at Stafford, I really think we should go for him. I'd love to see what Stafford could do with us.

I have 3 options if Rivers retires

Mac Jones

Jacob Eason

Trey Lance

I would be fine with either

BTW mods put this in QB thread

I'm also curious to see what we have in Eason, hopefully he is legit. However, no-one knows if we can count on him and our team is at a stage where we are ready to make a run for the SB so that's why I think we should consider going all in on Stafford (or a proven vet QB).

Not really football related but I wonder if Indy is now “home” for him and his family.  As many kids as he has some high school just fielded their whole roster someday if it is.

I also think he’d be fun on Colts broadcasts someday if he was “ “shoot I’d go for it here”, “dang gum it we should have had that one”

You really think you’re an expert on QBs and you don’t know too much.  It’s very hard to win 11 games in a year and he had a lot to do with that.  We don’t have some stable of talent on offense and he uses what he has very well.  The line has been ok this year and fortunately has cone around on pass blocking.  But he’s thrown the ball very quickly and has avoided sacks.  He doesn’t sit back there with all the time in the world as some would imply.  He has had a hell of a year.  Yeah...he’s older but he still throws well.  He may want to retire regardless depending on how Saturday goes.  But be objective dude......wasn’t easy to make the playoffs this year and he got it done.  Let’s see what he does Saturday and how it plays out.  All these guys you mention don’t immediately make me think we’d win 12-13 games because of them. You overvalue our offensive weapons if you think that.  Rivers is likely to be gone anyway, but it’s ridiculous to act like he sucks and push him out.

Personally, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Unless someone else that is clearly better presents themselves, it's a no brainer to me.

No preseason, covid camp, musical chairs at WR and TE most of the year.... And he still was top 10 in yards and completion %. Don't think he was outside of the top half in any meaningful stat. ...

And folks that want to harp on INTs... Brady, Willson, Wentz, Goff, Murray, Ryan, and Cousins all had more. Big Ben, and Herbert had the same... Luck only had one year with a lower INT%.  I might be harder on him if he wasn't a new QB to the team, with no preseason, and musical chairs at pass catcher.

And for those that harp on Ws/Ls... Luck never had more wins in a regular season.

Eason is Chad Kelly 2.0, but without the character issues.

I don't understand why you'd be eager to hand over the franchise to someone that never even dressed this season, and only has 1 full season of college tape, which was solid but unspectacular.

He has a canon, but plenty of guys do.

Yeah short of Aaron Rodgers dropping in their lap which isn’t going to happen this is a no brainer for both sides.  It’s like AC last year saying he would retire or be a Colt.  I expect Ballard and Rivers to do another one year deal.  Let Eason take the next step in his progression as the backup QB and bring in a guy they think they can develop to be the backup go Eason.

Our defense won us quite a few games.

Yup. And I'd be OK with JB coming back too for a million or so per year to be a short yardage specialist. But yeah, let Eason take over the mop up stuff and get some minutes. That is, if they are confident in his development.

I think Jacoby is going to look for a chance where he’s going to get play not unlike what Fitzmagic has done in Miami.  Either be the transition guy to a rookie starter or be the back up with a starter on a short leash.  Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up back in New England to be their transition guy to their next starter.

I could see Brissett going to NE, DET, DEN, SF, or CIN.

I actually think CIN is going to be a hot commodity for back up QB's looking for another chance next year.

Burrow might miss the entire 21' season & they need a solid gap starter

That has Fitzmagic written all over it.

I think Ballard will encourage JB to test the market. And with the glut of bottom 16 types of QBs available, I'm just not sure he'll get the offer he wants. And if he doesn't, He'd be welcome back here IMO. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up in NE, but I would be surprised. Not sure if JB would want to go back, and I'm guessing BB will make a move.

Yeah I would welcome Jacoby back if he wanted to stay at a back up QB salary.  I like Jacoby the person and I think he’s a really good backup who has found a niche in this offense.  Still I think some team is going to offer him a contract that at least presents a chance to start which is what he wants.

I think New England would love to get Stafford or Ryan if they are available.  If not them I think they look at a Darnold or Wentz trade.  There is always the draft too where they could go up to get a guy or wait and see if one slips a little.

Cinci would be smart to tank another year, and get another top pick for when Burrow is back. JB would be a nice stop gap though, but I think there will be a ton of guys available to them. I could see Fitzmagic there too.

Eason has TWO-plus seasons of college tape.   One at Washington and one plus at Georgia.   He played in 32 games and STARTED 26.   Thats a good number of starts for a college QB.

And respectfully, no, not many guys have Eason’s arm talent.   And the ones that do are signed long term.   His arm talent is likely top10 in the NFL right now.   It’s rare.  What isn’t top10 now is his head.   He needs top coaching.   The reason he fell in the draft isn’t his arm.  It’s how he handles the NFL.

Most Ds do win their teams a few games.

Rivers won us a few too.

I just don't think he has enough throwing power. Most recent example was that interception where TY had both DBs beat.

I think the jump from third string to first string in one year is WAY too big a jump for Eason.   I think the kid needs a year as the backup.  I think his time table for possible starter should be 2022, not 21.

This is what makes me think Jacoby can sign another one or two year deal, and let Eason sit behind him. I know most think that Rivers returns, I just don't think his body is up to it. Very slow, and lots of underthrown balls.

And what about the times this season when he's overthrown receivers, or had well thrown long passes simply dropped?

The signing of Rivers has been a success, no doubt about it:  11-5, playoffs, your best record under Ballard and Reich.  He improved over the course of the year and developed a connection with TY.  If Wentz weren't available, Rivers returning would seem to be a slam dunk, but if you believe you can get roughly the same level of play out of someone who is only 27, a player who knows the offense and can bring a little mobility to the position, organizationally, you have to consider it.

I don't see them turning it over to Eason. I'm not feeling the Stafford fit and don't like our choices in the draft.  For 2021, to me, it's either Rivers or Wentz.

This. And you can't make the letters in P-O-S-S-I-B-L-E large enough,

I suspect a better word is probably unlikely.

He was drafted in the 4th round for a reasons (or actually reasons...).

Philip Rivers stats this year:

4,169 Yards

68% completions

24 TD's

only 11 INTS's

7.7 per completion

11-5 + playoffs

To me that says an easy good on a scale of average, above average, good, very good, or great. He was good this year so to the people that don't like him, too bad because when you put him down you look foolish at this point. Nobody is buying what the haters are spewing.

Not really, it was just a misread and a great play by the Jags. I don't think Philip seen the guy coming. He has arm strength, did you see the long TD to Pascal last week?
