Desir

I hope tonight is the last night we see him in a Colts uniform. The guy couldn’t even cover a quarterback running a corner route. Honestly all of our corners besides Moore have been terrible this year. You think Ballard will actually make a move in free agency or will it be the same old same old and draft a corner and hope he turns out decent?

He needs to start drafting DL.  Forget about linebackers, cbs, and safeties until he builds the trenches.  Hunt, Autry, Grover, & Lewis.  No wonder our secondary looks like garbage.

A good interior DL threat can make the entire D play much better.

Just like a good QB can make the entire O look much better.

I was one that was not happy when he was brought back. Folks in this forum was ready to title him as the new Revis after shutting down Hopkins for one game.

Desir was never a high level corner. But do you notice the trend?

Desir, Hunt, Glowinski

These are all players who had one breakout season and got awarded extensions only to regress the next season.

Glow hasn’t regressed. They put up a stat last night that showed the Colts OL gives the QB more time than any one else in the league, problem is JB holds on to the ball forever making the OL look worse than it is.

We’ve not been the same since Turay went down on DL either

Desir finessed a few good games against D-Hop into a nice contract. This place loves to overhype the players on this team.

Him and Rock have been abused all year

Rock is a rookie and you expect a learning curve plus he is a better man cover than our crappy zone we go into a lot. Desir, while he got another contract, it wasn’t like we paid him elite #1 money. He got a solid payday for 2019, more than he is earning this year for sure but what’s great, he is cuttable with no cap hit after the year. Had he performed well, we had him for respectable money, if he regressed, he can leave without injury to the cap. No sweat. Good contract strategy imho. Saying that, I think Desir has been injured most of the year and let’s face it, the scheme has not been pretty all season.

I underStand the learning curve talk but game 14 and I haven’t seen improvement. I haven’t seen anything that suggests he will grow into whatever they envisioned for him. That whether he’s in man or zone. One INT and that was on a gift by Foles. 4 pass deflections on the year.

Not buying the Desir not being healthy angle either. He’s getting beat by multiple types of WRs. Fast, possession, and backup

QBs

Coaching and scheme. We’ve seen some good and some bad from Rock. I’m giving him the rookie pass as a second round pick up. If we could get a little pressure up front, it would accelerate his curve as well but qb’s have all day to scan, set and throw darts. Let’s revisit Rock next season, but I do get your concern just as well.

as for Desir, if the groin is and has been an issue, I could definitely see that being an issue. How the team has dealt with injuries this year has been odd and probably some of the worst we’ve seen in years. I’m not sure what’s happening here but the team in general feels like it’s in disarray. But as for Desir, if he was replaced by a new guy next season, I doubt he is missed too badly. Give me a penetrating DT and that backfield, including our missing FS Hooker, would look 10 times better due to quicker and more off balance throws. Our scheme and front line need to be better.

I was never a huge fan of Desir. He’s had a couple nice games against Hopkins but other than that, he’s been very inconsistent.

Ya-Sin isn’t looking that much better either but he’s a rookie being thrown to the wolves to learn. I hope he progresses.

Last night, Desir was a prime example of being good enough to earn the starting role, and getting heaps of praise for being the #1 CB on your team, and then finding out what you really need to compete at championship level.  We have a lot of players like that on our team.  But Desir gets singled out as The Example.

Our o line has been great JB just holds the ball to long . A good Qb would make our team better in so many areas .

I believe he's playing hurt, because last year he was 10x faster than he is now.

I hope all that money that he got isn't weighing him down.

Knee cash'itis'. To much pressure on the knee joints from his pockets being huge.. Lol

I think they decided to let Rock and Willis learn on the fly.  They decided to live with the growing pains.

When Ballard talks about paying his own guys, and not spending in free agency, I hope Desir, Hunt, and Glow are good reminders of the failure of that strategy for him.

Ballard's high character but expensive and non talented player template failed last night. His high character guys laid down.

Yup, our OL is perfectly fine, and would be ranked even higher with a QB with even an average time to throw.

Turay flashed, but he was still a specialist. His snap count was hovering between 20 and 40%, and the only game he really played significantly more was the game Muhammad was dinged up. That said, I did love the way he was trending. I still don't think he would have mattered last night vs NO as Brees has one of the best time to throws in the league.

Apart from Bouye and maybe Jason Mccourty, any other free agent corners who were worth the price tag lately?

I don't see the big problem here, they got paid for a year, didn't  improve, we'll move on. They didn't exactly break the bank for these guys did they. It's always cheaper and more sensible to sign an uptrending guy of your own then break the bank for a free agent.

I do agree with you that the Colts can just move on. They refuse to spend their cap money on free agents anyways. So, why not toss handfuls of it to character guys instead of athletes.

At this rate the Colts will be "moving on" and rebuilding their roster for the next decade. 2030 super bowl here we come!!!!

(yes I am a still upset about last night's smack down lol.. Can you tell)

    • Yeah, Ebukam almost looks clumsy next to Latu. He's just so fluid.
    • Did Hou actually get that much better? This really does remain to be seen. I am of the opinion that the signing of Diggs is a signing that has been made about 2 years too late. He won't be bad, but he isn't a top 10 WR in the NFL anymore. I wouldn't put him as any more dangerous that Pittman, so WR's are a push. We have the better RB, Mixon is great and all, but he is not JT. We have the better Oline, and it isn't even close. TE's are a push, we have a lot of upside, but until it is realised im very "meh" on our TEs. QB - I would argue that Stroud is probably more likely to regress to the mean in year 2 vs improve. That rookie season of his was a bit silly, and they had an easier schedule last season too. If he really does build on last year and get even better, then our entire discourse here is probably irrelevant as we will have another Mahomes level QB on our hands to deal with in the AFC and within the AFC South no less. So unless Richardson is also a Mahomes level talent in that scenario, we are done for anyways. To me, our success in this coming season comes down to 2 groups on this entire team. 1. The QB (because... duh) 2. Our DBs. If we even get average play from the DBs, I think this team has the ability to win the whole damned thing (supposing Richardson stays healthy and is what we all hope he is). I would also argue that Houston are paper thin. If they lose a OL starter, Mixon or even one of their starting WRs.... they have a very big drop off. And injuries happen in the NFL. Just sayin...
    • If he wasn’t fast enough or athletic enough anymore for linebacker, then he’s not going to be able to cut it at Safety where speed , quickness, athleticism are even more important.    Wish it wasn’t so….
    • could he be another bob sanders at that position?
    • Man I love me some Maniac, but it won't happen, and he's too slow after his surgeries.
