Texan Qb Battle

Have you been watching Texas practice?

No I have not and I don't think I need too unless Hoyer is 99% improved from last year. I'd rather take my chances with Mallett who was in the Pats system for a few years.  He really didn't get to much of a chance last year.  I am just not a fan of Hoyer(even tho he was also in the Pats system).  I think the Browns beat the Colts last year if they had an average or slightly below average QB.  He was awful that game, among many others.

I wonder how Savage is progressing.  They haven't talked about him on Hard Knocks, but I remember he had quite a bit of hype coming out of college.

Last year , from all reports , he didn't offer a lot of hope but maybe different this year ?

Texans second-year quarterback Tom Savage saw very little action last season. He got his shot and was promptly injured shortly thereafter. However, his head coach Bill O'Brien likes what he sees from the young QB this offseason. "It's not always pretty, just like with every player," O'Brien said. "But I see a guy that's made a lot of progress. I will tell you that as a coaching staff, we're encouraged with how we've seen Tom progress."

I'd agree wth you.  Put Mallett in and let Savage develop some and then have a QB camp battle.  I'm not sure that Hoyer and QB battle is a good fit in terms of phrases.

I'm not betting on Clowney amounting to jack, but I wonder how good the Texans would have been as is with Clowney playing like he was predicted.

The same as they were last year....Run run run run run..... dink dink dink dink...... incomplete..... Punt

Texans do doubt have some talent but no one wants to consider that they fished 2 games plus the tie breaker behind the Colts while one team played a first place schedule and the other a last place schedule. If the Colts played Buff and Oakland rather than Denver and NE , what would the  gap have probably been ?

I think Mallet has more of an upside than Hoyer. But I wouldn't be surprised if both end up starting at some point this season.

I think Hoyer will probably start the season and he will within a few games prove to be incapable of moving their offense forward.

Then Mallett will get the nod.  I don't know where it will go from there.

Clowney plays defense

Exactly. All he would do is add another weapon on the defensive side of the ball...Meanwhile...The offense......run run run run run....dink dink dink dink..incomplete...field goal. If they land a QB then Colts are in serious trouble...Until then...Dink dink dink run run run....field goal...At some point ya have to be capable of pushing the ball down field in more then dinking and dunking...you don't have to do it consistently obviously but you have to have the threat

You're so scared of the Texans quarterback situation improving that you're telling yourself how bad they would be in a hypothetical situation of the past.

I agree with Gavin on this one Texans offense still is trash foster was their only threat to us and Hopkins is nice and all but he got shut down pretty nicely by vontae even with a qb I see their offense falling short of expectations no foster no win against Indy

Completely agree. If Hoyer does get the start, he will be benched for poor play.

Yeah......

9-7 last year with very poor QB play, and nothing out of Clowney.

Trash.      Right.

Their defense was just average last year and they are terrible at skill positions and even worse off this year. I don't think a player like clowney is going to turn around their franchise. Probably gonna be trash as usual

Brian Hoyer - QB -  Texans

Houston Chronicle beat writer Jerome Solomon called the Texans' quarterback race a "dead heat" between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.

Solomon put an emphasis on the word "dead." Neither one is a strong choice to lead the offense. Hoyer completed 7-of-11 passes for 52 yards Saturday while Mallett was an underwhelming 5-of-7 for 23 yards. Solomon remarked that Hoyer looked "like a frightened rookie" while Mallett did nothing to either lose or gain ground. Houston is going to have a hard time scoring while Arian Foster is sidelined with a torn groin.

New England does that to us to the tune of about 40pts a game....the system is proven...they just need a little better play at the qb position and they will start putting more points on the board....then turn that defense loose.

Trash.      Right.

thats why I roll my eyes when I hear people, say you have 6 wins built into your schedule. Yes the Titans and Jags stink. However, everyone forgets the Texans were a Ravens loss away from making the playoffs last year. That's a pretty good football team down there. They are anything but two guaranted wins. If they ever get their hands on a decent QB they are going to be a problem not just for the Colts but for the league.
